****FINAL LAIKA UPDATE!!! 30th March***
SHE IS SAFE AND WELL!!!!
So - the rescue story! As you know we’ve been a little cagey about sightings because we’d been planning to trap her. This meant we had to keep the areas where we knew she’d been seen a little clear of people. We were SO terrified she’d get hurt or cause an accident on the motorway!
We set up monitored feeding stations and traps around where sightings were and had an INCREDIBLE team of local volunteers help with checking these at regular intervals. We purchased a thermal imaging camera and volunteers scanned bushes through the night.
The police were convinced she was dead but until we found a body we refused to give up. Guys! We were right to have faith!
Today, we finally set eyes on her and after 8 hours of Garry, kelly and Tanya cooking sausages nearby - she walked into the trap!!!
Tanya and Garry fostered Laika and they haven’t eaten or slept for two weeks, they cancelled their holiday to stay and look for Laika! This is the PROOF that you should never, EVER, EVER give up on a lost dog! Even when the police told us there was no chance she’d survived: well! here she flippin’ well is!! After two weeks our “definitely dead” dog looks rather alive!!! (Obviously she’ll be heading for vet check ASAP, but appears pretty unscathed).
Special thKelly MappleytoDanielle BoltonDanielle, Emily WoolgerM, Sean Burnside Restally Nat HeyseaPauline Lympany PJo VineliHeather M Clayton Heather and everyone who supported us and felt the highs and lows with us!!
THANK YOU!! From the bottom of our hearts!!! 😘❤️😘❤️

Update Friday 30th March

Morning everyone! So still no found post we're afraid but as soon as we have anything we will be shouting about it!

We've had a number of sightings of her around lakeside and farlington marshes, we really just need sightings of her. Please if you're in the area DONT CALL HER NAME, that could spook her further, and if you spot her don't try to catch her, take a photo if possible and give us a call straight away ‭07912 371213‬.

We know you're all as keen as us to see her home and safe, again we cannot thank you enough for the support you've provided us with, it helps to keep us going. Now we just need laika to work with us and come home! Thank you
DogLostNina
Would putting posters in cars help

~~* UPDATE THURSDAY 29th MARCH*~~

OPERATION LOCATE LAIKA LATEST!!

Morning folks! Or should that be ATTENNNNN-SHUN! Yep, it’s all a bit military at Find Laika HQ.

In the interests of sharing as much as we can with you all we have reasons to be optimistic! For the past few days we have used a myriad of clever technology to try and ascertain exactly where she is and we *think* we’ve done it.

The biggest issue for anyone searching for a lost dog is that after a few days it’s as though a switch flips and they go into feral survival mode. This means they won’t even come to their nearest and dearest, so after a few days having lots of people searching can do more damage than good as they might scare a dog and make them run again. This is why we’ve not posted precisely where we think she is because now we want to keep her in one area so - under expert advice - we can trap her.

So, for now, we don’t need you to go out actively searching. If you’re out walking your dog definitely keep your eyes peeled, but don’t call her name/search through shrubbery etc.

IF YOU SEE HER DO NOT TRY TO CATCH HER - SHE WILL RUN! CALL 07912 371213‬ OR 07766 410471 IMMEDIATELY!

We could still do with posters being put up/check they’re still there in Havant Thicket, Farlington, Drayton and maybe even Bedhampton. Poster pinned to top of page or comment on this post if you don’t have a printer.

We are feeling cautiously optimistic that we will have the good news you all deserve soon. Thank you as always for your trust and support.

And let’s all take a moment to give some respect to Laika: The World’s Greatest Ninja Dog!

Thanks all!! xx
Jovana
UPDATE: Tuesday 27th March

Morning all!

Firstly THANK YOU for being our eyes and ears across Facebook. We really appreciate your sharing and checking possible sightings with us. If in doubt, do check!

IF YOU SEE LAIKA CALL ‭07912 371213‬ AS SOON AS IT IS SAFE TO DO SO!

As per yesterday’s update we are taking advice and not revealing the exact location of all sightings, but we do know she’s alive and appears well. There was another sighting in the same area last night so we know she’s in survival mode but doing ok.

We don’t need any more posters up or searches for now as people certainly seem to know about her, but do keep your eyes peeled if you’re in the Cosham/Hilsea areas and call us immediately if you see her.

DO NOT TRY AND CATCH HER.

Have a great day folks and whatever you’re doing please keep fingers, toes and paws crossed!! Xxx

Hi, we are absolutely not lacking in any knowledge regarding this search. We are experienced in these searches and working with experts as the wonderful DogLost network we know to bring Laika home safely. Tracker dogs not an option here as this search crosses lanes of motorways. Do not confuse a lot of supporter comments on FB for a lack of admin knowledge or action. We have worked with trackers before and approached those we rate already but as I said, location not suitable. There is a plan afoot to keep Laika and the public safe and get her home. We will update when appropriate. Thanks.
Ratel
I suspect there are many in this community not on Facebook but who, like me, are desperate for news on Laika. Specialist knowledge is freely accumulated here, please include us in all developments.

I have been reading posts on Laika's facebook group BUT I am not on Facebook and am never going to join it as I am very anti. I may be wrong but there seems to be a bit of lack of knowledge about how to catch her if they find out where she is. Someone has asked if anyone knows of a tracker - others are talking about traps (they don't know where Laika is yet but a possible sighting on Wednesday is hopeful). If they read this, I think they should solicit info re Jenny & Tiga and ask Ray Dedicote what to do then, if they do find the poor soul, maybe Ray could help them with trapping etc. I'll try 'phoning their main number but it would be better if they used DogLost for advice a bit. And, Laika searchers, if you do read this Admin could probably help you with contacts for Jenny & tiga and Ray Dedicote.

Rollercoaster day. Alleged sighting around 11am off main road by Havant Thicket (8 miles from where lost), but person who spotted her adamant she was wearing brass id tag and Laika was not wearing a tag at all (it was on harness she slipped). Police have confirmed she WAS hit by a car on M275 (by big sail) and they do not believe she could have survived this long after impact as the impact deployed airbags in car and there was extensive damage to car (people in car all ok thank goodness). Apparently she fled towards lakeside/IBM so we are now in the awful position of having a sighting in a location she cannot have made it to if she was hurt. Need to be looking in bushes and shrubbery for body but also following any possible sightings. Nightmare, but tomorrow is another day.Last edited: 2018-03-20 00:20:37 by Shepples

I am near the ports bridge roundabout and foxes forest. If you get any sightings I can be there quickly . My son has walked round there this morning but not seen her.
Julie Gee
I think you might need professional trappers but you need to identify her area first. I can't see her staying around a developed area in Stamshaw or Hilsea. She might travel a bit until she finds somewhere quieter. Maybe back around the Hilsea Lines, Alexandra Park, Bastion Gardens or the IBM conservation area. Please God she stays away from the M275 and doesn't go on it again or the A27/M27. She must be terrified 😓 Stay safe little girl xLast edited: 2018-03-19 10:09:10 by Julie Gee

Shepples. Thank you for reply. I feel for the new owner. I have shared and twitted. I hope Laika is found safe and soon. ..

@charlie and sooty. Yes overseas rescue. Been in U.K. 6 weeks but only one day in this home. Slipped harness after being scared by large dog off lead that wasn’t under control. New owner feels awful. Fosterer in area searching.
charlie and sooty
How did Laika go missing. Is she an overseas rescue girl, if so, how long as she been in the area?

No sightings of Laika overnight. We are very worried. Seen Harbour Way heading towards park and ride 3pm Sat. Then seen on M275 just before 4. Possibly seen Twyford Avenue after that, but also seen heading off into green area off M275 Cosham direction. Laika is nervous of people and traffic so will seek out quiet areas. DO NOT APPROACH SHE WILL RUN. Please call number above and try and keep her insights from a distance.
