From LYn, Rio's owner.....
It’s hard to believe this time two years ago Rio was having his breakfast with the others. It was a lovely day and we had a great walk on the dunes. Until the end. Rio just disappeared. Where did he go? What happened to him?
There really have been no positive sightings of a Rio at all since he went missing. This suggests he was either picked up by someone in or near the car park at Winterton on Sea, or is in deep hiding somewhere. As it is a very visited place by dog walkers and bird watchers and families I think if he had been around the area, he would have been spotted by someone The most positive sighting was a pointer seen at Somerton, which is a village very near Winterton, last year. Sadly it was only seen once despite many people looking for it.
There are quite a lot of orange and white pointers but Rio is very distinctive in the two spots on top of his head. As time goes on we realise that there is less chance of us ever seeing our beloved dog again, but we can’t help just keep reminding people he is still not home
During the last year he has been featured at the Pointerfest which is a nationwide day for pointers and their owners. Locally Rio’s team have been on the Winterton car park with posters, leaflets etc several times and one evening a quizz night was held in the village. The finders fund for Rio is building up and we would love to be able to give it out to someone
It’s a long time to be looking and missing a dog. And now is definitely not a good time to be asking people to look for my missing a Rio
All I can ask is that everyone who sees this, will share it so that at least Rio is not forgotten. Thank you to all the very kind and faithful people who keep sharing. You must know that it is much appreciated. Thank you from the bottom of our hears.
love LYn xxx

Carolann will be manning a stall in Winterton on sea car park, next to the Dunes Cafe on Sunday25th August. It will be exactly seventeen months since Rio went missing from that very spot
We are still hoping to raise awareness and perhaps jog someone’s memory. Please pop along and say hello if you are in the area. There will be bags, bandanas and key rings to buy and posters for you to take.
We are running a post a poster campaign. Please take a poster, post it somewhere and take a photo. Send it to Rios page and we can see where the posters are going. Vets, shops village halls are all good places to put them
Thank you all again for your support and your love for Rio. xxx

Today there was a sighting of a tan and white pointer running along the Somerton to Winterton road. We all assumed it was Fallow who was spotted last week, but it has been confirmed it was not Fallow. Fallow was at home and has otherwise been with owner all day. So...........COULD IT BE?Could it possibly be!
Well we don’t know if course but I just wanted to alert all local people, holiday makers etc to be on the look out. Please share with anyone you may know who is in the local area. Thank you.

Doglost think it will be the Rio that was caught this week "An escaped puppy that went missing has been found after surviving in the wild for more than a year.

Pointer cross Rio was 10 months old when he slipped out of his harness on a walk near Cambridge in January 2018.

Reported a possible sighting today in hopton, while working at a property on coast Rd about 10.00 am, as I came of the property a dog was coming over to the driveway with no lead and was being followed by a gentleman hastily trying to catch him, he had no lead in his hand and dog had no collar, the dog entered the garden and the chap shouted at me to grab him,, he went round the back of the house and the dog got past him and started running into the Rd, he can back round the front and something just didn’t look right, I thought that he doesnt even look like he owns the dog and it certainly didn’t look like it wanted to be with him, the dog ran off round the corner on manor Rd and I didn’t see them again as I went back in the house, I was then looking on Facebook around midday and day the yarmouth mercury post about Rio and as soon as I saw the picture I knew something wasn’t right and was convinced that it was him, I’ve reported it to the relevant people and just hope that it might lead to something, please keep an eye out in hopton area.Last edited: 2018-08-13 22:30:41 by Riise74

Rio has his birthday this week. Jan has kindly designed a new poster. We would love you all to share it for Rio. We know lots of you have already. We also know that many people, countrywide are looking at pointers, checking if it is Rio. As there have been no sightings we don’t know if he is still out there hiding, or someone has picked him up or the worst has happened. We just don’t know. Thank you all for your continued support in sharing and posting for us. Every day is hard, and we are no wiser as to where Rio is. Still no news about the white Volvo and whether it was Rio or not.
Please share this post as it shows his head markings, which are perhaps his most distinguishing feature. He also has an orange marking near the base of his tail. Please look carefully if you see a pointer like Rio. To non pointer people, they all look very similar so check the head markings We are very grateful to everybody who takes the time to think of Rio and us every day. From Rio's mum....
We are not the only ones missing Rio. Our daily lives seem to still be concerned with what may have happened to Rio
We are beginning to lose hope of ever finding him. I know miracles do happen and dogs turn up ages afterwards, but despite all our prayers, all your sharings and wonderful thoughts, we cannot help but begin to lose heart.
Thank you for sticking by Rio. Many lovely people are still looking for him as they go about their daily lives. We cannot begin to thank you enough. Xxxxx

If anyone local can help spread the word about Rio at the Martham Scarecrow Festival on Sunday & Monday it would be greatly appreciated.

Despite an extensive search yesterday on the private estate behind the dunes, there is still no sign of Rio.
It is hard to believe in over four weeks no one has seen him at all. So we don’t know if he is still hiding in the locality. Or whether he has moved on to another area. Or has someone picked him up/ stolen him? In the latter case he could be anywhere
We would like to thank you all, those lovely people locally who have searched, put up posters and spread the word about Rio. And to everyone who has shared his poster, photos and updates far and wide
I think the only thing we can do now is to hope and pray. I know lots of you are doing that too and we thank you for that. There are times when we feel like we are in a very bad nightmare which never seems to end and your comments and thoughts help to lift us and keep us positive. We feel we can’t give up on Rio
Please still keep your eyes open for Rio. He has very distinctive markings on his head, he was thin when we last saw him, so he will be thinner now. We will still post photos of Rio and all we can do is to ask you to keep sharing just in case he is in another part of the country Give your dogs a hug tonight for tomorrow isn’t promised. Xxxx

Thank you to everyone that came on the search for Rio today, I and the owners really appreciate it.
Sadly no sightings today of Rio, however we covered a lot of ground handing out flyers on the way.
We started from Horsey Gap and walked the dunes towards Winterton and then a few of us drove to Winterton and walked the woods where he was seen when he first went missing.
I postered a few of the villages on the way home.
Although no sightings we have spread the word further a field and hope that we will get some news of a sighting so we can act on it.

Thank you to everybody who gave up their time to help search for Rio today, we decided to concentrate on the woods that he was seen to run towards when he went missing and this is close to where he was seen on the cricket pitch, the area is vast and we tried to cover as much as we could, sadly no sightings of Rio in this area. Winterton beach is so busy every day so I think he would have been seen if he was still in this area.
Most people we spoke to knew that he was missing.

Just returned from holiday in Winterton. Walked on the dunes this morning and last night. Ran along low road yesterday up to the church scanning the fields but no sign. When walking over fields at the weekend, game keepers son(?) said they had deer stalkers there this week. Presume they are from Burnley Hall so may be worth alerting them. Come home Rio.

FORDS FARM, CRINKLE HILL, HORSEY, HORSEY, NR29 4EP
MADELEINES FARM HOUSE, MANOR FARM ROAD, EAST SOMERTON, SOMERTON, NR29 4DY
LOW FARM, SOMERTON ROAD, WINTERTON-ON-SEA, WINTERTON-ON-SEA, NR29 4AW

WHITE HOUSE FARM, THE STREET, WEST SOMERTON, SOMERTON, NR29 4EA
HOLMES FARM, HORSEY ROAD, WEST SOMERTON, SOMERTON, NR29 4DW

Safka
Thank you Mark North for taking the trouble to do that. We have posted on cars and letter boxes around Manor Farm road. We have no knowledge of local farmers. If any one could help alerting them or giving me names etc to contact I would be very grateful. Xxx
Mark North
I took a walk from Winterton today along Low Road and Manor Farm Road to East Somerton, then up the Holmes Road across the marshes and back down to Winterton across the dunes. Unfortunately, I had no sighting of Rio despite spending much of my time scanning the fields. I did speak to a farmer at the farm buildings at Winterton Holmes and he was totally unaware that there was a missing dog. So, I'm wondering whether all the local farms have been informed. Isn't it likely that Rio may use a farm outbuilding for shelter? So sorry that I was unable to find her. Hope she's found soon.

No sightings of Rio today. We have distributed posters and flyers in the immediate area and talked to lots of dog walkers. No sign of him at all. We will be going down tonight with a portable bar b q Thank you for all your help. Xxx
Safka
Thank you for the last comment. Could someone local please give me an idea where this is and or a telephone contact for the owners. Thank you.

We probably saw this dog on Sunday, att the far end of private fields/farmland to the right side of low road (with the Low Farm Barns/Norfolk By The Sea properties to your left side). Another local had spotted it and said it was running up and down along the same field edge.
We later saw a lady with a white dog who was running about so we assumed it was
hers, and as it was on the private land we could not easily get to it to try to catch it.
I have messaged on Facebook to see if any other locals have seen it, which includes some friends who work on the estate land. I hope that helps, really hope he/she is found.

Admin
Sorry to see that RIO POSSIBLY STOLEN is missing.
  • If your dog is microchipped please let the microchip company know that your dog is missing and check that all details are up to date.
  • Owners targeted by a malicious hoaxer demanding money for the return of their dog should phone the police on 101 immediately and contact admin@doglost.co.uk
  • A photograph of your dog is essential for the website. If you have not already uploaded one, please do so by clicking on Update details. Alternatively you can email it to admin@doglost.co.uk quoting the dog's DogLost ID number: (127089)
  • Obtain a missing poster by clicking on View poster above. Posters are very important so start postering now!
  • You will need to be logged in to upload photos, edit your dog's details, or add comments. You can add comments by clicking on Click here to add a comment.
  • Contact dog wardens, vets and local rescue centres, and in Scotland, the Police. Give a detailed description with any distinguishing marks/scars or send them a copy of your DogLost poster. You can find vets in your area here.
  • If your dog has been stolen inform the police immediately and obtain a crime reference number (CRN). Send an email to stolen@doglost.co.uk.
  • If your dog is picked up and taken to rescue kennels, it can be legally re-homed after seven days. Visit rescue centres in person and do not rely on checking by phone alone. Other people may not recognise your dog by your description, so give them a DogLost poster.
  • Keep us updated by keeping your dog's page up to date and check for posts from helpers who may have suggestions and possible matches or sightings
  • DogLost is free and anyone asking for money to find or return your dog is not volunteering for us. If you are concerned about an approach you have received, please email admin@doglost.co.uk
