Buffysmum and Ali - I truly don't want to have an argument on here, particularly when this is a place of 'good news' and when actually we are not on opposite sides of the fence!! ...... Buffysmum I've PMd you and Ali, totally agree with you about bassets and collars. Mine actually don't wear theirs around the house although they always have collars (with tags and a bell!!!) when out on exercise. As for microchipping, my thoughts are best left to myself and certainly not for discussion (from me) on this thread. Cheers.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Glad to hear Lola is back. I totally agree with BuffysMum. I get so mad when I find a stray dog with no tag. I don't have time to spare to find a vet (we don't have a dog warden) to scan for a chip. With a tag I can get the dog back to the owner much quicker. My dogs wear their collars 24 hours a day. You never know when someone is going to leave a door or gate open. Bassets do have a bit more of a problem with collars as I find they come off quite easily. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

BassetsRUS, Yes it is the law to tag a dog and and there are plenty of pages on here that prove 'chipping is not all it is cracked up to be' for loads of reasons, a majority being human faults, better to tattoo. If a collar is used that 'fits properly' with a tag attached, and I would suspect that there are a high percentage that don't judging by the amount of dogs on here that goes missing with a collar on and then found without it! and read into that what you will , the tag is an easy way to get your dog returned to you quicker. I can also read the phone number on my dogs tags without having to handle them- just put number on both sides.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I hear what you are saying doglady, and of course, I know what the law requires, but this girl was chipped and so I query again the point of the dog tag, in this case? Unless dare I say it, chipping isn't all it's cracked up to be .... cuts and runs.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

BassetsRUS it is required by law to have a tag anyway. And dose help when finding a dog to alert the owner to save the poor dog at most times when they are pick up with out them have to spend time in dog pounds. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Just heard from the Basset world that Lola is back. Wonderful news and what a lucky girl to be spotted in such dire trouble. Afraid I don't quite understand how a tag or a flexi lead would have helped here though?Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Good heavens, that's our third 'save' on or close to a railway line in a week! It just goes to show how important it is to keep searching physically when a dog is lost wearing a harness... Great news, lucky Lola!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
