Spoken to owner today - Henry's mum - and she was happy to receive the long list of rescues which I sent her by post, to call in her own time, to see if Henry had passed through any of them during the time he has been missing. Hope something comes up. She and her daughter have no internet access please note again, so if there is anything any of you need to report about Henry or to help Henry get home to his mum, it may be best to please call the number on the poster to relay the information as well as posting it on here. Please note that Henry is a Newfoundland cross, so he looks like a Newfie but with the head of a retriever.I suppose that nowadays his breed could be easily mistaken, as he could look different from his picture on site. Thanks.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Well, I suppose the owner never thought for one minute that someone would take Henry, just like lots of other people. She tells everyone now, not to do this, just like I do if I see a dog tied outside anywhere. It was back in February when he was taken. Please everyone, Henry is still missing and his owner is distraught, and still actively looking for him, so can you help in any way you can? This striking big dog cannot go unnoticed. There is a distinguishing mark on him which could be used for identification purposes. He could be anywhere now and is possibly in a new home so please look out for any newfoundlands everywhere. Owner says he has the face of a retriever.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I have given posters to the recue place in Wakefield and she said she would pass it on to other rescue centres. She said has the owners daughter checked with the police for A LIST OF DOGS RETAINED BY THEIR FINDERS. If Henry was released and someone found they could have kept him but reported him to the police. the rescue lady says they forget to look on the register alot so that's worth a try.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Spoken to owner's daughter and she said she has spoken to the police re mobiledogsalon's earlier post. The owner was told that all of the dogs this person stole were either re-united with the owners or he let them loose. The Newfoundland Trust are also advising and following up any possible leads. There was a possible sighting in Scotland but this wasn't Henry. Owner states Standish and Chorley are flooded with posters. Her father is a 70+ year old man and took Henry with him everywhere he went so they are local celebrities as Henry is such a large fluffy dog! Henry has appeared in local paper twice and on the local radio station since his disappearance. I have advised owner to pass posters to bin men, window cleaners, post men etc in the local area as they will have a phone number to hand if any sightings. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Around the time Henry went missing there was alot of thefts all over the area including Ormskirk and Burscough. The police caught a lad from Kirkby who was taking dogs tied up outside shops and selling them on maybe they might be able to help. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I am going to a charity show on Saturday in West Yorkshire and will pass Henry's flyers out. Also the lady who is running it runs kennels for stray dogs so will let her know and see if she can get it around her friends in the business. Standish isn't far from Leigh. Might be worth getting in touch with Leigh Reporter as they did an appeal for the 3 jack russells stolen from Glazebrook now reunited, 1 found in Ince according to news paper report. Could get together with owners of Monty(pomeranian)WN2 and Whiskey(westie) WN2 and see if they would be willing to do a story on all three missing dogs from area's close to Leigh.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

There was also something the psychic said about the 'long arm of the law'. This all may be irrelevant but as she says if it strikes a chord with someone it just may help to get him home and she has offered the service without charge. I did ring the Manchester police but they just gave me the dog wardens number, hope this helps in someway.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I have just sent an email to the dog warden's clerk Paula in Wigan who is going to show as many people as she can the poster of Henry. This was due to my friend the psychic who said she could see him being releases in a town centre, cold and dirty and that the town name of Wigan came up. She also said he was speaking to her as a spirit of this world and not the next so she believes he is still alive. Let's hope so. She also said he was not with the gypsy's but I think we should check ALL avenues. Come on Henry, come home soon old fella.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I know that some people may not believe in psychic's, but there is a disused railway at the back of Somerfield and the housing estate. I cannot believe that with all the highly visable posters I have seen in Standish, that someone hasn't seen something. I put posters on the stalls at Northern Newfoundland Club show on Saturday in St Helens sohopefully someone may remember. Ialso spoke to a pet psychic who asked if there was a railway nearby, she got the feeling that two youths took Henrytoor very near a railway. Have just spoken to owner's daughter. They have been doing LOADS! but don't have internet access. Have put articles in Standish courier, been on Lancashire radio, posters, the Local Councillor, and everyone in Standish now knows about Henry and is stopping them in the street to ask if there is any news. Poor daughter had to go to cleansing dept to identify a dog killed on the roads but luckily it wasn't Henry. Followed up 2 possible sightings, calling at houses, but no luck. Have been on RSPCA website. The family are fully praising Doglost, and want to thank everyone for their help. Also, the Newfoundland Trust. (Sue Hislop, chief welfare officer for Newf trust and Rachel from here: they say you have been fantastic). Thanks also to all people who took posters to Crufts (even Peter Purvis looked at the poster!) Mum and Dad (owners) are still gutted, but carrying on with the search. They are moving the search further afield, contacting local papers. Carry on with the search Team Doglost! They will keep up updated.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi everyone, sorry I haven't got back to you earlier about the posters, couldn't get on line yesterday. The posters at crufts were manually amended, which should reduce the number of phone calls the boxer owner gets. Fingers crossed we get a good response from people. With the Councillor on board Henry should get some more great coverage. Stay safe Henry until we find you.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

He is a lot older now than the photo - greying round mouth, has a little bit of white on his chest, also alot more coat. He has brown eyes and is very heavy set. He is also neutered. Keep safe Henry, we will find you.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Smaller posters done for Henry and emailed to Yasa to go on the Info Centre. Would be grateful if any helpers in the area could print these off and distribute. Hope they help in the search for Henry and he is back home with his elderly owner soon. Good luck. JaneyC thanks for looking out for him and for the local advice. I work in Standish & live in Wigan. I am keeing an eye out when walking my dog & telling as many people as poss, my vet is also keeping an eye put for him. There is a high school near to Somerfield, may be worth asking if any poster could be put up there. Kids sometimes hear things & I know they use Somerfields quite alot. One other thought, how about the local pubs, there are 4 near to where Henry was taken. Landlords & staff could keep an ear out for any talk. Someone in Standish has seen something it is a a busy area. I really hope we have Henry back home soon.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I'm going away shortly and will not be available until next week, no internet access until I get back, hope to see Henry in the blue by then. Jan xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Have spoken to owner's daughter. He was stopped on somerfield carpark today and told that someone had seen a similar dog, muzzled, in Haydock. Are there any helpers in the area who could help with postering/vet contacts there just in case. Isn't there an Dogs Trust near by? Daughter would like to thank everyone for all their help. She has been suprised and pleased at how everyone has rallied. Come on gang, let's get Henry home.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi, I'm miles away in Milton Keynes but will e-mail everyone I know to keep their eyes open. Our group have quite a lot of areas covered, so will keep our ears and eyes open and notify if we hear anything. Will also notify Newfoundland club welfare to ask people to notify as many people as possible. Hurry home Henry. xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Just read back through Pixie's page, its not the actual council that had the cctv footage in our area but Pixie's owner had to go through the council in order to request a viewing with the cctv company, not sure how it works Wigan but worth finding out who controls the cctv in the area that Henry was taken from and get in touch with them first to find out the procedure. At least Henrys owner knows exactly where he was taken from and approx what time so if they get the go ahead it should be clear cut, that is assuming there's cctv around there. Fingers crossed.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

How about the owners try the same as Glenys, Pixies owner, she asked the council if she could view the cctv in certain areas and they agreed, there must be SOME cctv around the area that Henry was taken from, anything is worth a try, I know we are talking about different councils but you never know, they might just say yes.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hope Henry is found soon. Being such a large dog, he would be difficult to hide for long. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Unfortunately Somerfield have not got any CCTV, this is one of the first things I asked owner's daughter. Thanks to everyone who can help owner's with any postering and spreading the word. Henry is not exactly the type of dog that can be hidden long. Jan xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Good idea Bearcoat, different I know but we had a bike taken from outside our local Tesco's, informed police & asked if they would check CCTV, they did, the lad who took it was known to the police & we had the bike back within 48 hours, has owner informed police does anyone know?Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Poor Henry. Has Somerfield no CCTV? Might be worth asking. This is the hard way to learn not to leave your dog outside a shop even for 2 minutes. I'm the other side of Wigan but will keep an eagle eye out for Henry.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Spoken to owner's daughter, who does not have internet access. Henry and her dad are known within the local community, no-one seen him being taken from outside the shop. They have contacted the police who said would notify the DW, I've advised they contact the DW's in the area and surrounding areas themselves, also get a crime number. Leigh Cats & Dogs Home and RSPCA have been contacted, stressed these need to be visited in person. Posters have been getting displayed, advised places to poster. Explained how to send a photo by mobile and they are going to try and take a picture of a picture, so hopefully one should be received shortly. Will also ask a family member to register on DL and check Henry's page. Fingers crossed Henry is found soon and reunited with his elderly owner who is missing him.
