Thanks to the Southport Visiter for doing a feature on Jess and informing everyone of the sad news, also thanks for mentioning the Doglost website. At a show yesterday the reporter came to find me to discuss the story and I was able to give her an update which she was delighted about - Colin and Gloria are the proud owners of a gorgeous rescue Springer called Zack, 11 months old and very cute. I had the pleasure of meeting him yesterday and it was lovely to see Colin smiling and chatting about him. Zack has been chipped and I wish him luck in his new forever home and a big thanks to Colin & Gloria for giving a home to a rescue dog. xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

You loved Jess so, so much, by reading your message I am in tears, I own two springers, one looks just like Jess. Only those who have owned them know just how very special they are. I am glad that she is in your garden in a special place, you can sit with her everyday and talk to her, at least you found her and will not spend your life worrying where she went. Thinking of you at this very sad time, take care. Kind Regards Julie.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

When I'm gone, release me, let me go. You mustn't tie yourself to me with tears. You can only guess how much you gave me in happiness. Grieve for me a while, if grieve you must, then let your grief be comforted by trust. And then when you must come this way alone, I'll greet you with a lick and bark "Welcome Home".Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

This is one of the hardest things I have to do and it's breaking my heart. I am devastated at the loss of my darling little Jess. She was found on Sunday 6th april exactly 5 weeks to the day that she went missing ( 2nd march-mothers day) She was found by a kind cyclist ( to whom we will be forever grateful)at the side of the coast road about 50yds from where she first went missing.Colin went and brought her home to where she belongs with the people who love her and she is now laid to rest in a quiet corner of the garden, this is our special place and I will sit with her and remember all the good and happy times we had with her. There will always be why's,where's and how's but we will never know the answers.Thank you to everyone for their great help, support and words of comfort at this very sad time.Keep up the good work DOGLOST, we are now dedicated helpers. JESS,my baby, you were so special to me and I'm so pleased that you were part of my life,I will never, ever forget you-you have a special place in my heart forever.I love you so much and will miss you everyday as long as I live. I look at your place of rest everynight as I go to bed and say goodnight to you.Enjoy chasing the birds and bunnies as you did before. Run free over the bridge baby, nothing can hurt you now. Be happy Sweetheart, we will be together again one day and it will be Forever xxx Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

By the edge of a wood at the foot of the hill, Is a lush green meadow where time stands still, Where friends of a man and woman do run, when their time on earth is over and done, For here between this world and the next , Is a place where each beloved creature find's rest ! On this golden land they wait and play till Rainbow Bridge they cross over one day. No more do they suffer in pain or sadness for here they are whole, their lives filled with gladness!!!! Their limbs are restored their health renewed their bodies have healed strength imbuled !!!! They run through the grass without even a care, untill one day they Stop and sniff the air !!! All ears pricked forward, eyes dart side to side, Then all of a sudden one breaks from the pack ! For just that instant their eyes have met Together again person and pet, So they run to each other these friends from long past, The time of their parting is over at last !! The sadness they felt whilie they were apart has turned into Joy once more in each heart, They embrace with a love that will last forever and side by side they cross over together !! There are no words that can make it better. I am so so very sorry. Your love for Jess was clear for all to see and I am sorry that you have been re-united in such a tragic way. Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart. Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....Author unknown. Good night, god bless sweet Jess, run free with the breeze xxxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

RIP dear Jess, Run free beautiful girl over that Rainbow bridge. I stood by your bed last night I came to have a peep. I could see that you were crying you found it hard to sleep. I whined to you softly as you brushed away a tear, "It's me, I haven't left you, I'm well, I'm fine, and I?m here. I was close to you at breakfast, I watched you pour the tea, you were thinking of the many times, your hands reached down to me. I was with you at the shops today your arms were getting sore I longed to take your parcels I wish I could do more. I was with you at my grave today you tend it with such care. I want to re-assure you, that I'm not lying there. I walked with you towards the house, as you fumbled for your key. I gently put my paw on you I smiled and said, "It?s me." You looked so very tired, and sank into a chair. I tried so hard to let you know, that I was standing there. It's possible for me, to be so near you everyday. To say to you with certainty, "I never went away." You sat there very quietly, then smiled, I think you knew...in the stillness of that evening, I was very close to you. The day is over... I smile and watch you yawning and say "good-night, God bless, I'll see you in the morning."And when the time is right for you to cross the brief divide, I?ll rush across to greet you and we'll stand, side by side. I have so many things to show you, there is so much for you to see. Be patient, live your journey out...then come home to be with me.-Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Oh god, this is so sad, I have the biggest lump in my throat... Let's all hope that dear Jess didn't suffer at all, and by the sounds of where she was found it seems likely - I'm sure she would have been found before this if it wasn't the case... My heart is heavy with sadness for you all but she is waiting for you now with no pain. Remember her smiling face and her helping paw and she'll still be forever by your side... Colin rang and I was out, rang him back to be told the very sad news. Gloria I am so sorry, please don't blame Colin, he has done everything possible to find Jess and the response from the public has been overwhelming, both phone calls, messages of support and people searching. I'm so sorry this was not the outcome we had hoped for but she is home now. Colin has offered to help in any way with dogs in this area and has been an inspiration with his dedication in looking for her. Run free Jess xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Just had a phone call from Colin with the devastating news that Jess has been found in tragic circumstances. A cyclist found her body not far from where she went missing, the finder cut her collar off and contacted Colin. She has now been taken home to be laid to rest. Looks like she has been there for about 2-3 weeks and has been possibly involved in an RTA....... Gloria and Colin these are the blues that everyone on DL dreads. Our deepest thoughts are with both of you and your family. You have done a tremendous job in your search for her and just when you got brilliant media coverage you get this sad news....... Could anyone who sees any posters please remove them. Thanks to everyone who has helped search for her, especially the cyclist for taking the time to ring up. Colin said Gloria will post an update when she is up to it. They are so thankful for all the help and support they have had. Run free at the Bridge Jess and sweet dreams. Had a phone call yesterday from a lady in the Animal Sanctuary Shop in Formby to ask if we had found Jess as someone had been in the shop and told them that we had found her (I wish we had ) and she wanted to know if she could take the poster down. This also happened last week in the Pets at Home shop on Ocean Plaza, when we went in and saw the poster had gone we asked the man on the till and he also said that someone had been in and said we had found her.He put another poster up for us.The advertisement has not yet been in the Liverpool Echo but we rang them yesterday and it will be in but they are just waiting for the right size space to put the article that they want to put in. Hopefully, it is also going back in the Visitor this week (Waiting for the editors approval) with a True Picture of Jess. Thanks again for all the support from everyone, We won't stop looking for her.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Spoken to Jess' owner today, will do the smaller posters for them. There is an ESP on the Wirral site, have given owner the link and said they should check this site regularly. I've visited Halewood RSPCA today (they are well aware of Jess - owner is doing a grand job and keeps checking). Seen the ESP found in Sefton Park, he will be put on DL a.s.ap. Also spoken to the finders, who have tried so hard to find his owners, they now have DL website link and said they would register. Jan x Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

We had a call today from a lady saying that she had seen a poster (with pictures) in the cafe in sefton park liverpool for a dog that had been found and she said it looked like Jess, I presume she meant a springer spaniel. The lady didn't know the telephone number as she only saw the missing poster when she went to Formby Golf club so we are going to go in the morning to check it out, Fingers crossed it will be Jess and she can then be put in the blue. Spoken to owner tonight - he has printed another 400 posters and has spent 3 days searching the dune area on the opposite side of the coast road, as has Ali. He has had calls from wellwishers and people helping look for Jess from as far as Crosby. We spent 3 hours this afternoon walking from where Jess went missing, through the Velvet Trail to Ainsdale at the tideline/ scrubland between the beach and the dunes, looked by the lake, no sign, posters still everywhere. Gave out and displayed posters at Banks boot sale, lots of people aware of her, offer of help from a man that runs a flying school, said he can help look out for Jess as well as any other missing dogs in the area.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks ali5, think we've seen you with Milly if she's very like Jess. After an article in the Formby Times a lady rang to say it was her dog that was on the fields and she has her at home, said the owner can go and see her. So, back to opther sightings ie Ainsdale, Birkdale, town center. Should be very busy with visitors so hopefully will have news soon. Suggested that the owner puts a feature in the Liverpool Echo and the Daily Post in case someone picked her up from out of the area.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks for helping search Sandra. Another sighting last night as it was going dark, on Deansgate Lane North, dog approached some people but then made off. Owner has looked round the area and done postering & scent trail, suggest going tonight at dusk armed with smelly food. Have looked on the map and there is open ground above the lane which goes onto an area called Wham Dyke (possible water source) & the airfield.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

2 phone calls on Saturday saying a brown & white spaniel tied up on a demolition site in Southport but no sign when we looked.Security guard said the dog belongs to a worker there who has been taking it there for two weeks (owner is going to look today). Call at 7am Sunday, possible sighting behind Woodvale airfield, near the stables, caller was sure it was her, callled "Jess", the dog looked round, owner went looking. We looked round the pinewoods but no sign.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Owner has postered Ormsirk & Crosbyt today, having PC problems, will go to Inernet cafe. Had a call today- sighting last Weds near St Josephs (the hospice, set in the pinewoods). Advised owner to scent trail at areas of any sightings which they have done. Suggest that owner looks round Pinewoods area at first light, park car and put scent6 on the wheels of the car, leave car doors/boot open. If possible, light a BBQ (this has worked before, see reunited huskypup) Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Owner had more calls, someone saw just after she went missing running down the shore road towards Morrisons, someone elsa said they had seen her last Sunday near Pontins at Ainsdale. A member of the golf club said he saw her or a similar dog last week in Formby. I asked the owner to ring the lady who'd seen the ad for a found dog to see if there was a photo on the ad (thinking she'd seen a Doglost missing poster) but she said there was no photo. She is going into the vilolage today to try and see it again. Thanks Sandra,if any helpers can walk in the Formby pinewoods and squirrel reserve areas and if sighted ring the owner, Jess is nervous and may run off if approached.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Owner is having problems registering but has worked non stop on postering, they are everywhere. Two sightings in Harrington Road in Formby on Friday, close to the pinewoods(about a mile away form the Grapes). We had a good look around the area but no sightings. There is a good hiding place at the side of the Grapes pub, advised the owner to do scent trailing there. A lady rang the owner to say she'd seen an advert for a found old spaniel but didn't know where she'd seen it. Went and looked in windows of post office, newsagent, Spar, petshop but none there, owner is going to look round as well, it's possible the lady has seen one of the missing posters that are in the village? Owner also had a call from some boys saying they'd found a dog but it's a boy.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks Sandra, owner rang, another possible sighting in the same place in Formby (First was Monday, this one was Tuesday), loads more postering in Formby, have asked owner to scent trail the area then if it is her she will hopefully stay there. He will poster the car boot sales this weekend. Owner- there are a couple of riding schools and dog boarding kennels down the back of the Formby bypass, by the golf club, may be worth placing posters there.Going to look round the area at first light tomorrow.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks all-possible sighting- owner has been postering all day while his daughter searched the beach- shop on Lord Street Southport saw the posters and said a woman who goes in there walked past today with a similar dog, they have not seen her with a dog before, she kept stopping to let people stroke the dog. Owner is going in the shop tomorrow with photos that show Jess's markings. (They are having problems registering on here), I have sent you all a pm with the woman's description.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Rangers are aware and have poster. Daughter is out on the sands this week and next, working. She says loads of posters are up too. Well done Ang and others. Have sent friend on Weld Road the poster and asked her to forward to her friends in Birkdale too. Have posted link on Southportgb to here so more people can print out posters. Don't forget to check food places and under bushes. With the weather we've been having she'll probably be taking shelter or making a burrow in the hollow between the dunes. The owners other dog might be a good seeker?Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Went to beach area that Jess went missing from and postered Weld Road entrance, both entrances to Ainsdale dunes, Pontins, dog walking area near the roundhouse, phone boxes at Southport market, Mcdonalds, the pier entrance and Southport station. Also Southportgb - local forum. Have a side on photo of her and she is mostly white, no liver colour on her shoulder, she has distinctive markings ie 3 circles of liver across her right side with a further circle below them, all joined together, the liver colour reaches across her spine and across her bottom. She has speckles all over and liver colour on her belly and behind her front legs. Advised owner re scent trailing and to walk his other dog in the area. Spoke to local helper (reunited Angel's mum) - her daughter is working for the nature conservancy and will ask everyone to look out for her. Yesterday was very cold with lots of hailstorms so I think if she is in the area she will have gone to ground.Plenty of food sources down there, rabbits and lots of birds (sadly a dead porpoise). Very cold and windy down there this evening so she would be in hiding or may have crossed the coastal road into the estate. Owner is going to poster tomorrow and contact press etc. as well as postering pet shops, taxis, postmen, etc.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks Southport Visiter for giving the owner our details, I spoke to the owner last night,he has been to Halewood and knows the dog warden for this area, now going out to poster. I think that someone visiting the beach may have picked her up - (owner see reunited labrador Bracken) and suggested contacting other newspapers such as the Liverpool Echo and the Daily Post as they have helped before. I emailed Pets At Home at Aintree, Grubby Paws, K92000 and given poster to local dog training club.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
