Sounds great, Carole - we are back at the vets on Tues & it would be great if his stitches can come out then & we can maybe start proper walks again... once he is able to walk around properly then I will suggest a couple of times that maybe will suit people & hopefully we can meet up with as many of you as possible. Following on from the previous post, as soon as Moose is up to it, perhaps we should have a 'MooseMonkey reunion walk' along all the new areas we found! CarolexxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi Suzy, I have just managed to get on my computer and sort out my registration. I am soooo pleased that you found Moose, I was so worried about him, and spent extra time walking Zuka, (which he enjoyed) looking for Moose. I wandered thru parts of Swinley I have never been to, away from the main paths!!!! Its so lovely to read about his recovery too, What a lucky boy. I look forward to seeing him again on the dog walk. All the best. Kate Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi BonBon - yes, MooseMonkey is being an absolutely wonderful boy & is resting up quite a bit. We are both getting far too familiar with our vets tho', having been most days for redressings, etc... even with very little walking on it the bandages tend to roll down or peel off... the stitching went well & we are managing to stop him licking them too much - we tried the head cone on him last night (a smaller one as it was only to stop him getting to the top wound) only by this morning he had managed to get it off by himself... it will be so wonderful when we can both go out for a nice long walk without worrying that bandages will get wet or stitches pulled... I call him our miracle dog & still can't really believe that soon we will be able to walk all those wonderful new paths I discovered in those 4 awful days in Swinley... xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Beautiful photo. Thank you. Lovely to see him like that, so loved, and spoiled now. (Not that he wasn't before, but you know what I mean.) And thank you for the updates. Sometimes when a dog has had this sort of trauma we hear nothing at all, so this has been wonderful - to share in his recovery. Stay safe Moose, and be a good boy at the vets xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

MooseMonkey continuing to recover well - took him to our dog training this morning, where he loved all the extra attention & treats... as he is now (understandably) very nervous near roads, especially ones where the cars are going fast, we were given advice on how to stop this fear (no, I don't want him to go into a road again, but we do have to walk along them sometimes... lol). Daughters returned home from their universities last night & have been told the amazing story... needless to say, he is the most spoiled dog in the world at present!!! We return to the vets on Monday to have one of the wounds stitched up. xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

After our visit to vets today to have dressings changed, etc, Moose & I went down to Swinley for a short walk... (he is meant to excercise the leg to stop it getting too stiff) - we went into 'the Gate' then he showed me all the little routes up around where he was found (on a lead, of course!) and then we did a short circle round to the left, left & left again back to the gate... I was worried that he would be tense either near the entrance or in the forest... but no - he was quite happy to be back (but even on the extension lead - stayed pretty close!!!) - we go back to vets on Fri & then on Monday he will have the wound on this thigh stitched - the other one simply doesn't have enough skin to stitch so it will just have to remain bandaged up as it heals... My daughters come back from uni tomorrow & will be told the story on the way home - I am sure it will be a very emotional homecoming. xxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Just returned from my first visit to Swinley Forest since Sunday. Lovely to see your FOUND ALIVE and thank you notice on the gate, Suzy. Great way of letting all the dog walkers know the good news. Can't believe all the forestry work that has taken place in a few days. Looked like a different place. Do hope MooseMonkey is continuing to make good progress, with the help of Tiger, of course.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

That's just wonderful news that Moosemonkey hasn't suffered any serious injuries. I'm just so happy for you all and what a lovely photo of Moosemonkey (now, how DID he get that name?) with his 'brother', Tiger. And so lovely to hear that Tiger is helping to tend his wounds - what a little sweetie (how we wish ours would get on like that!). Hope Moosemonkey was a brave boy at the vets yesterday morning. The photo of MooseMonkey & Tiger was actually taken before he disappeared - but the two of them keep touching noses & Tiger was licking Moose's paws when he first arrived back, but naturally we didn't have the camera to hand... so I sent this so you could all see how much his 'littlest brother' missed him! Oops - submitted without typing comment... yes, Dobies are often called 'velcro dogs' & he is definitely being my shadow at present - tho' he was at the vets most of yesterday... we are back there again today at 11 where hopefully he will not need to have more anesthetic to have his wound cleaned - no food this morning though 'just in case'... luckily we did not have to use the nose cone - I was only given it if we had a real problem last night - it must be made for a St Bernard or New Foundland or something like that, it is so big... but his nose is just so long that the smaller one would be useless... I will try & get a pic up of Moose with his 'rugby colours' on or maybe one with his reunion with 'Tiger' (our cat). No, we have not told our daughters yet - they are home from their universities on Thurs & I think they will still worry too much if they can't really see that he is fine... I still don't believe it & I am with him!!! I also want to just say thank you to Becky & Neil, who kept me going with their story of Shag who went missing last year from the same area, Polly & family, Starblisskiss, Eagle-eyed Carole, & EVERYONE else for all your help & support. This is absolutely FANTASTIC news. I am so pleased for you all and very relieved. I have somehow managed to stop myself phoning you today to see how he is as I still can't believe he has come through all of this. He deserves all the love, tlc, and spoiling he can get for being such a brave boy. The description of his bandage and nose cone is great. How about a photo on site so that we can all see your lovely boy dressed as an all-England rugby player? Suzy, you deserve to be on a high after this. Have you told your daughters yet? Love to you all - CaroleLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Suzy, thanks for the update and great to see he is going to be fine, what a soldier he is. He must look so pitiful in his big head collar, has he got the knack of not knocking into doors yet and eating his food? Bet he is sticking to you like glue and you now have another shadow. Hi - it is MooseMonkey & Suzy again... well having spent most of today at our vets, Moose is back home again - he has had a full battery of tests, x-ray's etc & amazingly really is fine!!! Well the gashes are nasty & are quite badly infected so we will be visiting the vets regularly for the next few days for the wounds to be cleaned up - possibly under anesthetic again :-( - and redressed... but those will heal up... nothing broken & no internal injuries! YEAH!!! Hopefully he will stay away from his bandages as the nose cone I have been given (just in case) is SO HUGE - no really, unbelievably huge... he is being given lots of TLC (of course) - new blanket, new toy & even a celebration home made liver cake... He has a full length bandage (which is red, blue & white - looks like an all-England Rugby player!) - I am just on a constant high - can't believe he is home & doing so well! - I really can't stop thanking you all! Hopefully, one day soon, we will be back walking about & will be able to thank some of you in person. xxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

A note to 'Hello Janey' & anyone else who isn't sure about the urine trails... I truely believe they do work - at first I also questioned going to that extent... but believe me after a day or 2 of all day searching in an absolutely MASSIVE forest... well I was prepared to try anything... AND IT PAID OFF - I am sure that is one of the reasons he did find his way back. Once again - thank you everyone for all your help & special thanks to eagle eyed Carole! Like everyone else, I was absolutely over the moon to come back in and see Moose (love the name!) in the Blue. Well done to everyone who put jobs aside to poster and join in the search. What a brilliant reward for all your hard work! I have been really worried about this handsome boy, expecially when I read what had happened to him, but it just goes to show doesn't it? I'm very happy for Moose's owners and, as for Moosemonkey, please do not go near those nasty, busy roads - just stay close to Mum & Dad. WooooooooHoooooooooo!!!!!! This is just THE BEST !!! The best news to come home to. Thank you so much jan for your text. I couldn't wait to get the PC on, and have been reading all the messages through tears. Well done everyone, and especially BonBon for being at the right place at the right time. I bet you looked more than twice when you saw him there. I am just so thrilled that you have got him back Suzy, and he seems to be ok !! It just shows how strong some of these dogs are, and we must never give up. But also I must say a very big well done to Susanne, who has listened to all our advise, and followed it to the letter. You see, together, we CAN do this, and we will succeed. I am just so over the moon. Can't wait for more news and a reunion photo when Moose has been checked over. Again, well done everyone on here who has helped spread the word and have searched. Top job, absolutely !! I am so pleased to be able to say WELCOME HOME MOOSEMONKEY xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Have only just returned - had car problems and had to wait for the AA! This is a fantastic outcome and a just reward for all the owner's hard work and determination. If I hadn't been delayed by a neighbour as I was leaving then I might not have seen him STANDING on top of the bracken looking down and across watching, just like you see photos of stags. Could hardly believe my eyes. For a dog who has been through so much since 10.00am on Wednesday morning it was unbelievable to see him so bright, alert and trotting normally as he moved from one side of the path to the other before stopping and watching again until Suzanne arrived. Suzy, I do hope you have got your breath back now - that 10 minute run you made through the forest after my phone call shows you are equally as fit as he looked! I sincerely hope the full check up tomorrow confirms that he is ok apart from the obvious wounds. Whilst waiting for the AA man, I managed to get the nearest posters down and spoke to anyone going in and asked them to remove any they saw. Spoke to a lady who was coming out of the forest after searching whilst walking her two dachshunds and gave her the good news (one of these dogs, missing up north for 3 weeks, was on here a while back!). AA man, who arrived whilst this was on-going and fixed the car, was very interested and I did my best to persuade him to sign up as a helper! Moosemonkey - enjoy all the extra tlc and fuss you will be receiving but perhaps cut back on licking your mum so much and definitely do not head back onto that road again. Suzy - do let us all know how he gets on tomorrow. Take care. CaroleLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

THANK YOU, THANK YOU to everyone for all their help over the last few awful days... Moose is now at home having seen our normal vet - he has been given antibiotics & anti-inflamatory injections as he has some bad gashes on his hind legs but they thought the best thing was for him to come home with us today - he goes back in tomorrow morning for a thorough check. He was found back near the original area he bolted from - about 150m from the gate in the wooded area to the right. For anyone who has a missing dog, even if they have been injured, PLEASE DO NOT GIVE UP HOPE! Listen to all the advise, lay the urine trails, etc. THANK YOU AGAIN - xxx Moose, Suzy & Peter xxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Have you got any sausages or chicken, tripe, or anything like that which you could carry with you, and also put some down where he was last seen. I know you dont know where he is but its worth trying anything and I remember Tom the lurcher following a policeman or postman on a bike for miles because he could smell his sandwiches. Dogs often seem to double back so it is possible he will come back the way he went. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks Yasa & PolPat - Chobham Vet (Sunnigdale) were called - will try the other 3 you both mentioned on Mon morning (well hopefully won't have to!) - I don't actually believe he will have left the part of Swinley Forest that he ran off in as it is boarded by major roads & such a large dog is hard to miss... however I think my brother-in-law is putting up posters there 'just in case'... Sadly, that bit is SO large anyway and there are SO many shrubs, etc that he could be hiding under... and being black & tan makes it so very much harder...Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Moosemonkey, see my post right at the beginning of the page. There are only 3 vets you still need to worry about contacting. Have faxed or emailed the others. You are doing such a brilliant organised job that if anyone deserves to find their dog you do. I think as you have notified so many people you will get a good turnout tomorrow. Dog people are always so supportive, and I am praying you will get some good news. Come on you monkey, just give us a clue where you are boy xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Do you think he may have crossed the A322 and gone over into Bracknell (now called Swinley I think) Forest? If so, it is worth speaking to the rangers at The Look Out (off the B3430 - Nine Mile Ride). Loads of people go there at weekends and may see something. I can look in that area tomorrow if you think it likely?Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

My husband is going there about 8.15 tomorrow morning with one of our dogs and will be on the golf course and will then look around the area you have described. He's also taking posters to hand out to people on the golf course. I will go to the area you described mid moring with 2 more dogs abit later so will also look around that area. Dogs do seem to like golf clubs because they are a good source of food.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thank you so much to everyone that has been helping us - sadly, so far, no more sightings of Moose (MooseMonkey) since Wed... We have notified vets & dog shelters in area, also doberman rescue, police, dog warden, lumber yard, golf club (caddy office & shop), forest rangers & cranbourne dog training school. Have contacted possible sniffer dog people (Animal Search UK) however, their dogs aren't ready yet - am also trying another lead for sniffer dog(s) (Nigel Edwards) however, so far no reply from msg left - also, tried that Terrier Club number BonBon gave me, but no answer & no msg taking facility - will try again in the morning... Have taken all of Jayne's advice on board & have left 'trails'... BonBon asked that I describe his probable route... We came in for walk at approx 9:45am on Wed (5/3/08) - I let him off lead (as normal) a little way in from gate off Swinley Rd (B3017 - hump back bridge end) - he bolted back for gate, went under the low bar near swing gate & into rd - I didn't see but am told that transit van & 4x4 both hit him, he ran back in past me & down 1st path. At end he took 2nd path along (not the pipeline one) till the 5 path star glade at end. There he turn left (9 o'clock-ish) up narrow path to where there is semi-circle of trees at the hard core path. There he turned right & ran down that. The woman who saw him said she thought he had vered left into the woods there. Later there were 2 possible sightings on golf course - 1 by grounds men @ approx 12:40 - I think near either 5th or 12th hole going up grassy path towards the 16th hole. Sorry - this is a bit long... Again thank you for all your help xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Husband and I have just returned from another search but still no joy. Met up with owner, Suzzanne, and also bumped into Starblisskiss who arrived with her 3 dogs to search as we were just leaving. Thanks to Yasa for all the advice given which has been passed on to owner. Have asked owner to post on here who has been contacted to avoid duplication.(assume registration is activated?) The golf club does know but handing out posters will be appreciated. Perhaps suggest a walk in the woods after a round of golf? LOTS OF HELP NEEDED here as vast area to cover and, although possible, there is no guarantee Moose has stayed in the area last sighted. For anyone who is looking, he was hit on the B3017 just by the bridge and managed to get back into the forest through a small gap by the small swing gate and then kept running straight ahead before turning left. (Suzzanne - perhaps you could describe the probable route better).Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Please, yes, do take posters to the golf club, but more than anything the family are asking people to come forward to help with the search. Fear is that the dog is badly injured, and needs to be found. if anyone are members of any dog clubs that would bring their dogs out first light tomorrow morning to help search it would be much appreciated. Perhaps some telephone calls could be made to arrange to get some people together in the morning. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Sorry, meant to say he is playing there tomorrow so will take posters then. In fact he has to go there now, so is going to have a look around before it is dark.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Has anyone been into the golf club? Are there posters there? I am at the golf club tomorrow if not, and can take some with me. In any event will have a good look over the surrounding area. My husband plays there and can take posters with him to hand out while he is playing.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

That has now been done. Poor boy has probably stiffened up from his knocks, and is now lying low. You may find he does this for a couple of days before he ventures out again. Best everyone use the time for continued postering for when the sightings start to come in. Thanks for your help Bonbon. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Have just got back after spending a good 2 1/2 hours searching but no joy. Confirmed sightings immediately after accident but nothing definite since. Spoke with owner via mobiles and met up with her brother-in-law, Paul. They have really done a lot of work. Own posters up throughout woods and also handing out business size cards to everyone they see. Lots of dog walkers about, all very aware. Spoke with some of the pipeworkers and they are keeping eyes open - one said he had taken a drive round at about 07.00 today. Will try to go back out again later but as this is such a vast area with lots of undergrowth as well as paths, it is a bit like looking for a needle in a haystack. Sniffer/search dogs would be ideal! Anyone know of any in this part of the world? ADDITIONAL CONTACT NUMBER is owner's mobile 07877 463444 which her brother-in-law said I could put on site. CaroleLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Have just spoken to owner's brother who is manning the phone. He tells me owner is out searching again now and has already put up posters. The Berkshire Golf Club (didn't know it even existed!) is located in the corner right near the Swinley Bottom Roundabout on the A322 which runs to Bracknell or Bagshot/M3 junction 3. Swinley Forest is a vast area and has a railway line running through it, majority of which should be fenced off. Husband walked Whitmoor Bog side this morning (before I had ascertained exact location of the golf club) and saw and heard nothing. Believe there is a lot of pipe laying preparation work going on in the area at the moment. Will go out and try to find owners and help in their search. My printer is still down so can't print off any posters but hopefully owner will have some. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
