I went out early on Easter Sunday morning not to collect eggs but a collie! I got a call from a lady to say a wet and frightened dog had come in through the petflap and was hiding in her bungalow, limping and exhausted. She had shut the dog in and given her some food. I went to collect, and it took about half an hour of quiet talking to get this little girl feeding from my hand, accepting a tickle under the chin and finally relaxing enough to have a collar and lead put on. I didn't even need the slip lead. Sweet girl, very gentle nature. Her injury turned out to be only a sprain and improved with rest. She had only been lost for a few days, but I am told she is one of those dogs who is so active that it is hard to keep her weight up. After a few days of running about and not eating in truly awful weather, it's not surprising that she was so thin. I used to have a dog like that, always on the go and it was a struggle to keep weight on him. Anyway, huge thanks to the kind lady who took her in and got help for her. Welcome home Fern I too hope the kennels told owner to tag and chip and we all know that it is a legal requirement to tag. Well BC we are not surprised by the police and the council for not passing things on, apart from high rates and fines for parking. if they got something out of getting a dog back I think we would see a lot more done. Owner please make sure she dose not go again, well done the landlady. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

So glad this poor little dog as been re-united, she looks so frightenend, bless her and such a lovely looking dog,. It does make you mad when the supposedly authorities don't do their jobs properly but we too should do more as responsible owners to make sure that our pets are tagged and chipped so when they do end up at the kennels there is every chance they will go back to where they came from, in the hope the kennels do their job right of course and scan the dogs. Welcome home Fern, what a lovely name and I hope you get chipped and tagged.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

The system nearly failed this little girl again, owners had been on to the council, and the police, and she had been reported as found to both, but owner was told that no dog of her description had been handed in. Instead the owners friend was in a pub, and the landlady gave her the phone number of both the kennels who take the pound dogs, and the owner called to find the dog. This makes me so mad, we go to trouble of ringing the police and they just take no notice, same with the council, anyway at least shes been reunited, or will be later today, welcome home Fern, lets hope the owner has her microchipped and tagged, as apparently this little dog has gone off before, i have asked the kennels to speak to the owner about getting her chipped.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
