yes Coco is home safe and sound she is sat with me now, a little excited. She will be getting Micro Chipped tomorrow and the cat flap will be permanently locked!! A lady saw coco on this website and contacted us to say her friend had Coco. Thanks so much Dog Lost, if it wasnt for this website Coco may still not be with us. I am going to regularly check for more missing dogs in my area and try to help out where i can. Good luck to the rest of you whose dogs are missing, i can truly say do not give up hope, i was just starting to when i recieved the phonecall. losing a dog is like losing your left arm, but do not give up. Thanks, Jemma and Coco Lilly xxxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I havent noticed any mention of postering. We have had 2 missing lurchers in our area recently. One was found via doglost, the other was found before owner rang Admin. Both cases the dog had been picked up by a dog lover "obviously" a stray or abandoned due to lack of ID and "rescued". There are a lot of well meaning folk out there who havent a clue really. Please make sure there are plenty of posters in your locality, especially on your street, in local pet stores plus big retail park pet stores, parks and near schools(kids know everything). bus stops (old people know everything), dog walking areas (other dog owners are insatiable for lost/found/rescued stories) post boxes, and on your own front door and wheely bin lid (posties and bin men are very well aware of dogs, and who has a new one). Put the posters in plastic wallets sealed with sellotape, and put them on lamp posts near where people congregate (such as areas mentioned above). Try to avoid postering areas that may be considered fly postering, such as on official billboards etc, as they will just be removed. Never ever under estimate poster power. A back door way into the local papers I have used is an "open letter" on the letters page asking for information. For example you could write to the couple who picked up a dog on X street to get in touch, thank them for picking her up (bite your tongue here!) and saving her from the traffic, and spin a heart rending tale about your kids/other dogs/cats/budgies or whatever missing her dreadfully and going off their food etc. My local rag fell for this approach hook line and sinker. Good luck -).Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

keep contacting Dog Warden and police. Owner of Gyp, german shepherd was bouncing mad that someone who found a GSD answering his description handed it in to DW, and thence holding kennel, then contacted Gyps owner after seeing a poster to let her know. Neither DW or kennel have been in touch. Had the finder not rung her direct she would never have known! She rang to complain and was told "we cant contact everyone". Sadly the dog was not Gyp, but what if it had been??Nuff said methinks. Trust nobody, and ring regularly. Everyone really is too busy to care :-(Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Your local paper might be more willing to run an article if you have a paid-for ad in the lost and found column. That seems to be the way ours operates, sadly.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

i am the dog owner, we have contacted RSPCA, pet medics, PDSA, leigh cats and dogs home, the local dog warden, the police, local vets, everybody we can think of. It looks as if the couple who found coco are intending to keep her. the police are coming later to take statements as we have reported her as stolen. Coco went missing from peel green road, facing the rock hotel pubLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Owner should contact Salford Council Dog Warden at Turnpike House, 631 Eccles New Road, Salford, M5 2SH. Telephone: 0161-909 6500. They take all stray dogs to Turnpike House for 7 days and thereafter to Leigh Cats and Dogs Home. Owner best to call at Leigh Cats and Dogs Home in person due to the amount of dogs brought in each day. Owner can also contact Greater Manchester Police on 0161 872 5050 and Pet Medics who take in stray dogs out of hours for GMP, RSPCA etc. on 0161 794 4999. Good luck, Knoxy PS. What area of Eccles did Coco Lily go missing from?Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
