With hindsight, I might have seen Duke about two weeks ago. While walking our dogs on West End common we were passed by a 9/10 year boy running along with a very similar looking dog. He passed us a couple of times and called the dog 'Spike'. A couple of days later I noticed there were some people camping down by the river in a quiet secluded spot near where the boy had appeared. I think I spotted a pale long haired GSD with them too. A couple of days after that, when we went there, they had left. Their camp fire was still smouldering. We noticed that the logs had recently been cut by chainsaw. I am sorry not to have known to report/check this earlier. It could be that the people were moved on by the council/police. It could be worth checking with the police at Esher. Maybe everyone in our area could be on the look out for this group living rough. Three or more adults, at least one boy of around ten, a GSD and the dog that I think might be Duke. Sorry for the delay in posting this.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Duke's owners: the microchipping company needs to be informed that Duke is missing (maybe you have aleady done this?). Also, you need to have his microchip number to hand in case the dog warden/police ask you to identify a found dog. PxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

It just occurred to me, looking at his poster again that he actually appears black - is he a dark brindle??? Do you have a photo that better depicts his colouring or is he really dark and this is a really accurate photo? Sorry to seem picky but it might make all the difference to someone's recollection of a sighting!?Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

You must be missing your boy dreadfully. Have you sent posters , with reward mentioned, to the traveller sites in the area. All the council run sites are on the computer, the one you mentioned behind the police station must be legal as you said it was so big. Maybe try there first, I,m sure that Duke is not far as someone local must have had knowledge of your farm. Wishing you luck in finding Duke, I'm sure it won't be long now.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Just back from collecting huge supply of new Duke posters from Paula's house. Thanks paula! On way home, postered as follows: Silvermere Golf Club (members' notice board), Silvermere Equestrian Centre tack room notice board. Equestrian Centre owners also took a whole bunch of posters to distribute to workshops, craftsmen etc who rent buildings in their yard. Delivered posters to Katz Castle animal shelter where owner mentioned seeing dodgy types hanging around same day Duke was stolen in nearby Ripley. Have suggested she reports this to police as useful info. She also suggested owners look in all free ads and Loot for ads for staffies for sale. Also left poster with Cobham Vetinary Centre (John Ball & Associates) and at big Sainsburys on A3 (manager was in meeting, but staff promised to ask him to put posters up - in the past this branch has been v. supportive of DL, so anyone passing please check that poster is up on main glass door later today). Off now to Polesden with more posters . . . . PxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Staffies aren't the usual for traveller types to snatch and keep so quite possible he is for a quick resale and will show up soon. Dukey you must keep regular contact with all the rescues in case he is brought in. Unfortunately they have heaps of staffies come through the doors and it would be too easy for one to slip through the net. Paula are you able to provide owner a list if not already? DW's and other organisations further away need contatcing if not already. Can we have details on here of has been told so as not to duplicate work?
