Thank you all for your words of comfort. It is now okay, for me, not Danielle, to read what other dog lovers are saying, and it does bring you a sense of other people understand what it is like to lose your beloved pet. This is a hard lesson learned and I feel so bad for all those pet owners who are looking for their pet when the system lets us down so badly. I don't really know if people keep in touch on this site because I don' want to keep going abour our loss. You can let me know. Thanks Margaret xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Gee, that poem always makes me cry. I read it when i had to get my dog put down 4 weeks ago. I hope it brings you some comfort and know if she can be with you, she will be. Nothing would stop her after being loved so much. xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Peaches101 ,I think we will all be crying when this is read. I certainly am right now. What a sad but wonderful poem. I just can't stop thinking about Coco and her owners, but I try to remind myself of the 11 wonderful years they had together and then there are all the other doggies who never know this kind of love. Ones who are used, dumped, neglected, abused. Please God, bless them all and keep them safe from harm. Happy days at Rainbow Bridge Coco. xxxxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

My heart is breaking for you Margaret and your family at this sad news. I feel so much for Danielle's pain, we never truly get over the loss of a much loved pet, but time does heal. Danielle, we never stop loving our darling friends and they never really leave us either. So Coco will always be walking by your side and loving you, even when she has crossed over the Bridge. You have wonderful memories and you were terrific pals and wonderful companions and that will never, never change. So carry on with your course and pass on all that love to those pets you're going to meet who will need someone just like you to be there ready to love and look after them. Do it for Coco and in your love for her. God bless and keep you. I wish you every success in your chosen field, if nothing else Danielle, do it for Coco. Here's a little poem that will probably make you cry, but think of it coming from Coco and all the love that was between you. 'I stood by your bed last night I came to have a peep. I could see that you were crying you found it hard to sleep. I whined to you softly as you brushed away a tear, "It's me, I haven't left you, I'm well, I'm fine, and I?m here. I was close to you at breakfast, I watched you pour the tea, you were thinking of the many times, your hands reached down to me. I was with you at the shops today your arms were getting sore I longed to take your parcels I wish I could do more. I was with you at my grave today you tend it with such care. I want to re-assure you, that I'm not lying there. I walked with you towards the house, as you fumbled for your key. I gently put my paw on you I smiled and said, "It?s me." You looked so very tired, and sank into a chair. I tried so hard to let you know, that I was standing there. It's possible for me, to be so near you everyday. To say to you with certainty, "I never went away." You sat there very quietly, then smiled, I think you knew...in the stillness of that evening, I was very close to you. The day is over... I smile and watch you yawning and say "good-night, God bless, I'll see you in the morning."And when the time is right for you to cross the brief divide, I?ll rush across to greet you and we'll stand, side by side. I have so many things to show you, there is so much for you to see. Be patient, live your journey out...then come home to be with me.- Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Just a wee note to update everyone. Danielle is away to Dumfries this week to continue her studies in animal care. Unfortunately, this week it is biology and dog care (a hard one to take at this time). I have had one email from her telling me she can't stop crying about Coco and can't be bothered talking to anyone - but time will heal. As for our loss of Coco, the RSPCA advised they did, in fact, scan her body for her microchip but could not find anything to connect her to her owner. They also advised if you have your dog microchipped when they are young the chip can move about the body and may not be detected in their later years. They, in fact, did get our information from this site and were able to contact us with the bad news. Thank goodness for this site. xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

To Coco's family I'm so very sorry to read of your sad loss. I live in Wales but always check to see if there is anything I can do to help as animals have been known to end up miles from home. Margaret, your loss is so obvious, Coco was clearly a much loved little girl. Danielle, take your love for Coco back to your studies and make sure you get your qualifcation - PEOPLE WHO SINCERELY LOVE ANIMALS CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE! Remember this and make your qualification and your career a lasting legacy to Coco. With love and sympathy xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Margaret and Danielle, my heart goes out to you. I really dont know what to say regarding the appalling lack of communication. People look to the RSPCA to help them, and expect rescue centres to act responsibly. Well it just goes to show that you cant trust either, something a lot of people have known for a long time. Take heart that you now have have some sort of closure and soon especially for Danielle you will be thinking of Coco and smile because of the good times that you hold in your hearts. God Bless all of you.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

margaret1952 Thank you for letting all of us know what had happened as you say we all should be aware of how the system works and how the way that these animal organizations work and in some case not at all well, all we can do is work together on this and hopeful get these places to be more careful in the way they conduct there selfs, This must have been very hard for you , I do hope your granddaughter Danielle will be able to remember all the good times she had with COCO and in time the pain gets bearable, I also wish her all the best in her studies to become a vet and when she dose she will remember this and she may be able to make things better for all when a loving pet goes missing and then hurt and as to be PTS she will do her up most to let the owners know. I wish you both well and and that you can now have a bit of peace now that you know what happened to your beloved COCO. RIP little girl. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Dear Margaret & Danielle, words will never be enough to take away the feelings of hurt you currently have but please be assured that there are 100's of us out here who feel your pain. The 'systems' which are supposed to be in place with various organisations often let us pet owners down at crucial times and it is heartbreaking. Coco had a wonderful life with you and was obviously truly loved. Sleep tight Coco. xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

First of all, thanks very much for all your messages - they are much appreciated. This is now Sunday evening and there has not been a dry eye in this house since we got the news on Friday evening. I spoke to the Inspector at the RSPCA on Saturday morning and was a bit more able to take in the news. Apparently Coco had been hit hard by a vehicle (hit and run) and she must have ran into the nearest garden in shock. The owner of the house saw her there on Sunday 2pm and called the RSPCA. When they came she was semi-conscious and in a bad way. When they tried to lift her into the van she had a lot of internal bleeding so they had to put her to sleep there and then. Her body was then taken to the freezer of our nearest dog and cat home, despite the fact we had been up there every single day last week looking for her and no one could tell us her body had been put in the freezer. I spoke to them this morning to be advised they do not know when the RSPCA put dead animals in there they only know every couple of days some company comes and collects the animials for cremation "somewhere". I think it is really awful that your beloved pet is in a freezer and noone can tell you and you can go on forever and ever looking for them. I also wish to thank this site for the great work they do. It must have been through this site that the RSPCA could identify Coco from her picture and phone us with the devestating news. My 16 year old granddaughter, Danielle, lives with me and Coco has slept with her since she was a pup, they do absolutely everything together. Danielle is currently studying animal care and hopes to eventually becaome a vetinary nurse. However, at this moment in time she is absolutely hearbroken. She has hardly been out of bed since we got the news. You can imagine how much Coco was loved. I wanted to let all your caring readers know what happened to Coco and to be aware of the procedures if a dog is fatally injured. Again, many many thanks to all who posted a message. On this golden land they wait and play till Rainbow Bridge they cross over one day. No more do they suffer in pain or sadness for here they are whole, their lives filled with gladness!!!! Their limbs are restored their health renewed their bodies have healed strength imbuled !!!! They run through the grass without even a care, untill one day they Stop and sniff the air !!! All ears pricked forward, eyes dart side to side, Then all of a sudden one breaks from the pack ! For just that instant their eyes have met Together again person and pet, So they run to each other these friends from long past, The time of their parting is over at last !! The sadness they felt whilie they were apart has turned into Joy once more in each heart, They embrace with a love that will last forever and side by side they cross over together !! Margaret, am so very sorry that you have lost Coco in this very traumatic way. Am not sure whether she had been scanned and they got your number from the chip and that she was still alive when they telephoned or whether they called you after the event. As Doglady has pointed out if they called you to advise you that letting her go would be best then they could have sedated her until you got there. If she was as bad as they said an hour or so would have made no difference if sedated, you may have been able to discuss her injuries with the vet and made an informed choice but at least the choice would have been yours to make not someone elses. After all she was your very much loved companion which is so clear. My thoughts are with you. R.I.P. Coco God Bless. xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

margaret1952 firstly I'm so sorry for your loss, I would want to know why you was not contacted until after she had been PTS because as it as been said was she not scanned for her chip? so you could be contacted so you could have found out how bad her injuries wear, so you could have made that decision along with the vet. She may well have had bad injuries but they still can be sedated until you had got to her, so no do not let this go by without finding out what has happened, no this will not bring her back but you need to know if they did scan her. RIP little girl good night god bless. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

We are totally devastated. Phone call from RSPCA tonight at 6pm telling us Coco was found in a back garden, near to me, seriously injured, she had been knocked down and was lying in the garden bleeding. The caller from the RSPCA advised they put her to sleep as she had internal injuries. I was so upset I didn't take much details in. Where do I phone back to find out exactly what happened. We are heartboken. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Poor old girl, hope you get her home very soon. With her bad arthritis she probably has not got far so the key to getting her home is most likely to be plastering your area with posters. Loads of luck with your search, stay positive x Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

OWNER< Posters need to be put up in the area on lamposts, entrances to parks and strategic places in parks, vets, petshops, carry-out food shops, local shops, supermarkets, community centres, schools, ask postie, milkmen, binmen (even put poster on bins). Ask school bus drivers and kids on the bus. Deliver flyers to houses & pop through letterbox. Hand out flyers to people in the street, especially dog walkers. Put A4 poster in car windows. Rescue centres, and police offices need checking regularly and preferably visited in person, by owner or someone who knows the dog, because your dog or it's breed may not be recognised by other people. Also police are sometimes too busy to do much about it. Get some media coverage if you can, by asking the local radio station to broadcast her as missing and put an ad in the local newspaper with a picture of her. In the case where she may have been stolen, make her too hot for thieves to handle. Best wishes and good luck. x Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
