Julie, good luck in your search for Skye. Does Skye have a bobtail and perhaps be mistaken for an Australian Shepherd? Aussie's are not very common but some people would recognise one and they do look like a BC without a tail, albeit a bit more stocky. I do have a tri BC myself. Jan xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thank you everyone for being so supportive. Beaglemum and Greylady have both kindly spoken to us in the past couple of days. A possible sighting on Friday lifted spirits for a short time but turned out not be her. We are struggling to understand how a dog can dissappear without trace!! So many people have a different take on what could or is likely to have happened. My feeling is that if she has been hit by a car anywhere we should have found her body by now, as we have looked everywhere, but possible that we have missed her. Her being taken by someone for some disreputable purpose seems so unlikely as she is of no commercial value and I can't imagine that anyone would chose to breed collies for money - without papers or known skill ( agility or sheep work etc). It is still possible that she could have gone to ground, as badger sets are large and common around here - but difficult to imagine. I heard last night that a lady who is involved with dogs locally knows of other border collies who have gone missing recently. I will investigate and see if there are any similarities in the circumstances. What is heartbreaking about this is that when you feel you have done everything, when you can think of nothing further to do, it feels like you are giving up on them.. We really miss her..Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Have spoken to owner and I told her that I would speak to the Stratford DW whom I know. She now covers most of the Warwickshire area so gets around a lot. Wish we could have some sightings. Thinking of you Skye.X.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks for updating us Julie. Would it be helpful to have some flyers made up for you to hand out to people? I will ask for some to be done. It would be helpful to go to have a chat n the Redmarley site and give them some posters of Skye and ask them to look out for her when they are out and about. Would you like "Reward" added to your poster?Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi Julie. I spend several days each week in Redmarley and have heard rumours about that site which is just on the edge of the M50. There was a little elderly collie cross called Benji who disappeared into thin air in January and like Skye no positive sightings at all. I spent so much time postering and doing door to door leafletting etc to no avail. He went missing from his home in Redmarley. There was also a dachshund about 18 months ago that disappeared without trace from Staunton. All very worrying. We have on occasions seen suspect looking vehicles driving around the lanes and wonder what they are up to. When I get back to the area will give you a call and see what I can do to help. Keep safe Skye.X.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I have just been reading about a patterdale - ladd and one of the postings from Reynard the North Wilts regional coordinator refers to a organised dog theives working from a camp in Red Marley. Does anyone know if that would be the camp site in Redmarley, Glos. We are very close to that site. Although everyone says that Border Collies are very unlikely to be taken by dog thieves.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

On Jayne's advice we have made up new posters and added a reward amount and we are going to distribute them tomorrow. I am hoping that this may bring some people out of the woodwork. My husband has spent today ringing as many dog wardens as possible and has found a very varied level of service, some wonderfully helpful and aware of this website and how networks are everything in getting the word about and others who don't even contact other wardens within their own county. It seems to me that many more dogs could be successfully reunited with their owners if a compulsory national database were in operation. This site could be the hub of this activity with cooperation from local authorities. It needs some national coordination. This website is brilliant and needs much more support.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

No she didn't live outside. My husband was out in the garden and she and our terrier managed to get together and run off on a rabbiting expedition. This does happen from time to time, when we don't keep a keen eye on them. This happened at about 6.30, the terrier then returned at approx 11 pm wet and a bit dirty, but not looking as though he had been digging. Skye never came back. The noises that our neighbour heard were animal and not vehicle/people noises - more like a fight between dogs (or possibly a badger or fox). All landowners surrounding us and farmers with sheep have been contacted and nobody has seen anything of her. The other thought/question that has been going through my mind is whether she has been picked up by travellers - not generally a breed that they would be interested in, but there are working sheep dog auctions coming up in the welsh border area and it might be possible that she could be a sale out of the ring. She is not a trained sheep dog mind you - I am running out of ideas.....Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Julie did Skye go missing overnight, and if so was she living outside? Could the "terrible commotion" your neighbour heard hae been someone stealing her do you think? Sorry, I don't know the circumstances she was lost in so don't know if this might be a possibility?Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Spoke to a close neighbour who heard a 'terrible commotion' of animals fighting on the night Skye went missing. We are in a very rural area and think it unlikely that this would have been another dog and therefore felt it could possibly be badgers as they are common around this area. However a renewed search along every hedge row and ditch in a 1 mile radius has found nothing at all. This may of course be a red herring but we are running out of ideas. Has anyone else known of badger attacks resulting in dog's death or of bigger dogs going to earth in badger sets.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Several steps back I'm afraid, the sightings reported on Tue evening have now both been confirmed to be of other dogs. We are now back to searching all the fields around us with a fine tooth comb. Everyone locally who I speak to has seen posters or fliers but I am anxious that areas off the M50 / M5 might be placess that she could turn up as the M50 is only 1/2 mile from us as the crow flies. If anyone in the Ross on Wye area could put up posters for me that would be great. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Brilliant news, thanks for the update Lynn! Owner can you plot her sightings on a map and try to get "ahead" of her with your ostering so that you can receive THAT call when she is sighted? Fingers crossed she will be back with you soon. Is there anyone local who can help here??Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Made contact this morning with owner. Sky has been sighted twice now by the pub and mile and a half from home. The pub is The Butchers Arms (Was the Greyhound) in Eldersfield. Eldersfield is right on the Worcs/Glos border. All 3 DW informed, vets, and poster being put up. Asked for them to register on site to keep us updated on whats been done. Suggested postering in a radius around home and further afield. She is very distinguishable as she has small amount of tri on her head. She is wearing a bright pink collar but no tag.
