Update: Moppett is doing fine and taking great joy in whacking the other dog with her surgical collar-owner will send a photo this weekend. Also had an update on the kind people who found her-it was because helper dogroomer had spread the word to dog owners in the area and one of the people was so concerned they took their dog over to the area in the morning to search for her and lo and behold they found her!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

EMAIL FROM OWNERS - Please forgive this combined email but we wanted to express our thanks to you all as quickly as possible for the terrific help and immediate response you have given over the loss of Moppet. I am very happy to report that she has been found. From one of the posters we have blitzed the area with, we received a phone call at 08.10 this morning ( whilst we were in the throes of emailing some of you kind folk! ) from a hairdresser in Bewdley named Victor, who was walking alone and saw Moppet very close to the towel we left at the point of her disappearance on Sunday lunchtime. He was unsure about approaching her, returned to his shop to ring us, then realising we were going to be 40 minutes away went back to fetch her. By the time he had done so, another couple walking their dog, whom Liz had met yesterday during our searches ( and who we now know to be Jeff & Lynne Gray from Firien Barn, Lower Bardley ) had decided to go back today to see if they could locate her, had picked her up and were walking and carrying her to meet me when I got there. She had part of a fencing post still stuck through her abdomen and protruding out from just beside her tail. She was still wearing her muzzle and collar, despite our earlier suppositions that she had shed them. She had clearly managed to struggle back to where she last saw us, but has obviously not had any water for two days. We have just returned from the vet in Bewdley who has operated on her this morning and is hopeful that, despite her injuries which miraculously missed all the vital organs, she should make a good recovery, although not yet sure of any long term damage. Apart from being very dehydrated and shocked most of her functions so far seem reasonably good, although she is having to fight major wound infection. So many, many thanks to you all for all your kindness, encouragement and heartwarming support. Lessons we have learned are that you can never be sure in an unknown area what your dog is going to do if let off the lead, also that when lost a dog will nearly always struggle back to where they left you and if you leave something recognisable as part of you/them, they will stay put and wait for you to come! And never give up hope! Forest Dog Rescue & Doglost have been simply fantastic, so if anything similar happens to anyone please get onto them at admin@forestdogrescue.org.uk 0845 194 2824 where the response was immediate and at admin@doglost.co.uk tel 08448 003220 - Jayne Haynes and Jenny who run this latter site know that officialdom in the form of police and Local Authority are now very limited in their response. As we were going round visiting homes and farms in the Wyre Forest area yesterday, it was wonderful to find many people already knew about the loss of Moppet and had already networked it amongst their neighbours. What a wonderful idea, set up I think I am right in saying, by Jayne who had her own experiences similar to ours. With our heartfelt thanks and warmest good wishes to you all, Henry & Liz IbbersonLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

She was hidden away in bushes close to her towel and another dog walker was alerted to her as his dog kept running over to the spot and running back to its owner-she had managhed to crawl to the towel and wait for her owner to come and find her. Jayne/Jenny, Many thanks for your calls today - from the response from people we have spoken to today, many of whom had already heard about Moppet, you have been doing a fantastic job, for which we are truly grateful. Having again spent all day quartering the forest and talking to everybody - posters up wherever we could - and with not a single sighting, we are becoming convinced she has been found and taken somewhere. We are continuing our trawl of vets and rescue centres. Many thanks once more,..........e mail from owner Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Met up with owners after walking round the forest with my dog but no sign of Moppet. The owners said that most people they'd spoken to were aware of her going missing but no-one seems to have seen her. As the area is actually in Shropshire, I've advised them to contact Hilbrae, Rosedene and Sunnyside kennels and vets in Bewdley, Cleobury and Bridgnorth. The Wyre Forest covers a vast area so it's not going to be easy covering it all. I will go and have a walk round different areas tomorrow and the owners have my phone number in case they have any sightings. Didn't think to ask what kind of muzzle Moppet is wearing.I'll try to see if we can get some more help too. ChrisLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Stay safe Moppet. The advice you have been given is good. Dogs do tend to go back to where they lost their owners. Poster everywhere. Hope she is home soon. xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Its imperative this poor dog is found soon. Did she run off from owners, was she frightened or something. At eight years would normally have a decent recall. May be an idea to go back where she went from these dogs have good scenting ability. Best of luck finding her. Am too far away to be of any use.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
