My heart goes out to his family. Nightie, night, sleep tight, and have fun at the bridge with the other "Rainbow babies" who are waiting to play. Please look down upon your family Toby who really need your strength at this very sad time for them. Ask them to remember the happy times you shared with them, and the times you made them laugh with your funny antics. x

Very sad update. RIP Toby. Thinking of his family at this very sad news.it is with the deepest sadness that I inform the group that we received a phone call yesterday evening (23rd) that Toby's body has been found. We have his dog tag, so it is a positive identification. He was found downstream in Cockermouth and had become visible because of the low water levels in the Derwent.
It is not the phone call we were longing for, but now we know.
May I take this opportunity to thank you all so very much for your support and help over these past five months.

I’ve seen a couple of comments on a shared cross-post this evening. Toby’s owner is hopefully already aware of these, but details here just in case...both comments on shared post in the Facebook group - Lost and found Cockermouth and surrounding area....

Hi all regarding the search for Toby. We have had two reports, of sightings which we are currently trying to confirm. The most recent was on Sunday of a white dog heading down Fitz Road. Which indicates a potentially new area to search. Please could you share for us. Tracey


I just got back from Newcastle and when driving through Cockermouth I saw a white dog crossing the road on the road up from opposite Wordsworth House. My daughter turned around at Gote bridge roundabout and we went up the road but no sighting of the dog at all.... I don't know if was Toby but it was definitely a small white dog and I only got a glance of it as we went around the first little roundabout ... This was around 8.45pm this evening.

A tip I was given in this situation is to place something which floats and is of similar size to the missing dog, into the water at the point where he/she may have fallen in and watch where the current takes it. It may lead to a point where the dog may have been able to climb out or got stranded.
