Alfie is home safely. You amazing people made him too hot to handle. He was dumped at the local police station tonight and the fireworks made him run across the road so a member of the public caught him. He still had his collar on. Your support has been astounding. Thank you all so very much. Happy New Year

Edited to say sighting was sadly not Alfie but a similar local dog who had gone for a wander.

Sighting of very similar short haired collie in Charlton Horethorn near Sherborne. Advice given if seen again to try to coax or contain.

Draw curtains and play music to mask sound of fireworks.

Try not to leave your pets on their own during fireworks.

Create a safe and secure "bunker" in a familiar place at home.

Invest in some Adaptil or a thundershirt if your pet gets stressed easily.

Be aware fireworks are not only let off when it's dark...
