Update from Guildford Beat (Surrey Police) Understandably, we’ve seen a lot of discussion on social media in the last month after the tragic discovery of a dog’s body in a field in Merrow on 10 April 2019.
We have conducted a thorough investigation into this dog’s death and we can now confirm that there is no evidence of a criminal offence taking place in relation to this sad incident.
The dog was taken to the local vet when it was discovered and it was reported to us the following day (11 April).
A vet conducted a thorough examination into the death and was unable to establish a cause or time of death. We would also like to stress that there were no suggestions from this examination that the dog was burnt, tortured or mistreated in any other way.
We have tried to identify the dog, which was not microchipped, to inform their owner but have been unsuccessful. We would ask pet owners to microchip their animals to help us reunite them with you in the event of them going missing.
Officers are extremely grateful for everyone who came forward in response to our appeal in this matter and have assisted us with our enquiries.
We have found no evidence of a crime being committed and there are no suspects. We are aware names have been circulated on social media and were passed to Police which have been investigated – Police have found no evidence of a crime and no persons in the area are suspected to be linked to the dog found.
As a result, we ask you to consider removing any previous posts/shares that contain previous speculation, especially those naming individuals, about this sad story.
