I totally agree the police made no effort to help from day one.
Chiqo will be getting a shiny new tag to go with his new collar. Thank you so much everyone

I must say that if that were me I would be visiting that police station again with a view to informing them of the potential result of their action, or rather non-action in this case.   I don't see how they can be allowed to tell the finder to keep the dog, they should be giving advice about how to find the dog warden.    And that the owner went in 35mins after and was told they knew nothing, well, I'm speechless.   No wonder the police have a bad name...........  A bit of education here would not go amiss, they've spectacularly failed in this instance.   They need to understand that even if dogs are no longer their responsibility, they still have a duty of care to people who call in with a problem.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I'm really pleased to hear that Chiqo is back home safe and sound! How frustrating that the local police couldn't be more efficient and caring, although it's a good job that Chiqo fell into the right hands. Pleased to hear that Chiqo was chipped but as someone else has already commented, could this precious lad have an ID tag on his new red collar as a  welcome home present?!!! Finally, a huge THANK YOU to the family who took him in, cared for him and provided B&B. Perhaps they might be able to consider taking one of the many Staffies or Staffie crosses who are waiting in rescue kennels for new families to take them into their homes.

Well, I despair of the police.   Anyway, fantastic news that Chiqo is back home again where he belongs, I'm so pleased.   Welcome home Chiqo and stay safe now xx

What wonderful news I am so pleased that you have Chiqo back home, not everybody who finds a dog thinks to check for a chip so maybe a tag to go with his new collar.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

yeah, the family found him in Hudds the same day he went missing, and took him straight to the police station and they were told that they could keep him because the police couldn't do anything about it so they took him home to Mirfield.
The lady saw the posters in hudds today and called and said Chiqo was in her kitchen. my heart missed a beat. I Drove to Mirfield to collect him and they even bought him a red collar.
He has a few scratches other than that he has been looked after.
Chiqo is now fast asleep in his bed. What a mini adventure he has had.
The strange thing is we went to the same police station 35mins later to report him as missing and no one had a clue that someone had found him and brought him in earlier.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

That dog in Dalton is not Chiqo. It looks so much like ChiqoLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

The other thing I think I would do is to stake the place out.  Is it possible to do that in a very discreet way?   If you have the available time, and if he has a dog there, he must take it out sometime - then you would at least be able to see if it is Chiqo.   I'm not saying you should challenge him, that must be up to you to decide, but if you were lucky enough to see him you would at least know that he has him, then you are very much within your rights to involve the police in getting him back.   At least they would have something to work on, and they have been known to "do the business".    Be safe Chiqo, little man xx  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Yes, I agree with all that Phoenix57 has said.   The police must take notice of this, you are able to give them very positive information by the sound of it, and if this man has Chiqo then this is stolen property, and needs to be treated as such.   It's great that he is chipped as you can prove completely that he's your dog.   Don't let the police fob you off.   The dog warden should be involved too.   Good luck, everything crossed for you, and be safe Chiqo xx

This sounds very dodgy ! Maybe speak to one of the administrators about what would be the next move. You don't want to scare him into moving or selling Chiqo if he has got him. I know the police were not particularly helpful, but worth speaking to them again about this information and see if they will help.He is chipped so you can prove 100% that he is yours, so this dog just needs to be scanned ASAP. Especially if you tell them how sure this lady was. If no joy with the police, get straight on to the dog warden tomorrow morning and insist something is done to check this dog. I've got all fingers and toes crossed for you x

I'm glad Katy is back with her family.
A local milkman has put a poster up in his milk float/van and said that he will keep an eye out.
I tried putting posters up in the bus station but was told by security that I'd have to get premission from the manager first so I'll go ask her tomorrow. The postman/women and the bin men is now on my list thanks for that idea. Whist we were putting posters up in the Dalton Area, Huddersfield on 25/7/08 a lady approched us and said that she had seen a man with Chiqo. She even told us where the man lived. We buzzed on his intercom as he lives in a block of flats. He didn't answer his door but hung out of his window and we asked the man if he had seen my dog, he said "I don't have a dog" and closed his window. I didn't ask him if he had a dog, I asked him if he had seen my dog. There is something fishy there. The next day the same lady phoned to see if I got Chiqo back I told her what had happened and she said that it was definetly Chiqo she saw and she even managed to desscribe Chiqo's temperament. There is a Tesco in Dalton, they have put a poster up for me. Several other local shops have offered to put up posters too. There is also a pet shop in Dalton, I will go there when it opens and ask around and hand some posters. If he does have Chiqo he would have to buy a collar and that is his local pet store. Fingers crossed.   Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Katy was returned after the owners received a text with a number to call of the person who had Katy. She apparently had been found wandering and someone had taken in because they weren't sure what to do with a stray dog. According to her owners mum she was returned happy and slightly fat !!  You could also put up posters in the sorting offices so postmen can be on the lookout for him. Also taxi offices and bus station offices.

The CCTC camera is probably monitored by either your local council or your local bus company, they should keep the information for 28 days. There was a white Staffie missing in Bradford thought to be stolen, as she was reunited when the dog lost site was down I do not know the circumstances of how they got her back, you could maybe get in touch with her owners, she is on the reunited her name is Katy. You could maybe get in touch with your local dustbin depot and ask if their drivers would keep a poster of Chiqo in their vans as they cover a wide area.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

It's terrible that they won't investigate !!! Please be wary of people who say they will find your dog, don't pay them anything without results. I realise you must be feeling desperate, so would I, but be careful. x Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

There are loads of cctv in the area but the police won't help any more because there is no evidence that a crime has been commited and there are no witnesses. They will not be investigating. I've found a dog hunter (searches for lost and stolen dogs), she is searching for me and has promised to to call if she has any info :) She seems very confident that she will find Chiqo. I'm really disappointed that the police don't want to know. I've been told that there is a camera accoss my road and it covers my house but don't know who monitors it. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Oh no !!! I had my fingers crossed that the cctv would be useful. Is there any other nearby that could be looked at ? I am over in Bradford, so will send posters to my local vets and put them up in pet shops in Bradford and the large one in Keighley. Keep checking anywhere that has for sale notices for dogs. As I'm sure you know there are several pet shops in Huddersfield and in the market (think there are two pet stalls) where you could put up posters. You could try asking local vets to scan any dogs like yours that are new to the practice (someone could buy him in all good faith). Contact dog wardens, RSPCA (I know they don't deal with stray dogs but still worth contacting) and rescue centres in the surrounding areas and send them posters. I am going to Bradford RSPCA on saturday so will take a poster in. Fingers crossed someone will recognise him from a poster and call x

Am too far away to help but really hope you get your gorgeous boy back soon, it's so horrible when you don't know what's happening to them.   Great that he's chipped, that and postering everywhere to make him too hot to handle is the best way forward, it only needs one person to see him and contact you.   Good luck with your search, be safe lovely Chiqo xx

If we find the person that took Chiqo hopefuly if Chiqo has been sold on we will be able find the person that bought him. I've have placed a 4 day advert in the local paper today. My only concern is, what is Chiqo has been taken out of Hudderfield.  I've been to marina Kennals its just few mins down my road but no white staffie has been handed in they said to keep trying they also said some times the dogs get taken to Springfield Kennels in Osset I've phoned them but no joy.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hopefully the cctv will come up with something. Good that someone else is dealing with the case. He may well have been sold on to someone who doesn't know he is stolen, so hopefully someone will see the posters, or someone may know of someone who has just aquired a dog in their area. I've found this site the best, but there are other lost and found dog sites so check these as well in case someone has found him and posted a notice on another site. The dog warden doesn't sound to be particularly efficient so I would keep phoning and e-mailing them as he may already be in their care (and send them a poster). Marina Kennels in Huddersfield take strays from Bradford , not sure about Huddersfield, so I would try there as well. Visit kennels and the dog warden if at all possible and ask a friend/family to.     Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi, I've still heard nothing from the dog warden so I've sent an email to them. I've also been to the police station again today to find out if the cctv had been looked at as they haven't bothered to contact me. I was told that know one had checked them. I've put in a complaint about the officer that was dealing with my case and now my case will be asigned to someone else who will be checking the cctv and getting in touch with me by 3pm (24/07/08). The reason why I've asked for my case to be reasigned to someone else and the reason why I've put in a complaint is because the original officer came up with a conclusion that my dog could have been abducted by aliens his exact words were "it could have been abducted by aliens" this official complaint thas been made to his sargent. (I forgot to mention this earlier) furlover, The open market is still there but is only open Mon, Tues, Thurs, Fri and Sat. I will go there tomorow thank you for that idea. There is no car boot sales in huddersfield. I'm also going to place an ad in the local paper tomorrow. I have just finished puting up posters in every phone box that I could find in my area. I would really appreciate it if you could put posters up in Bradford. Thank you. cathf, I'm just waiting for the person that has my lad to slip up and start bragging that he has just got a white staffie, they are bound to slip up it happens to everyone. Phoenix57 even if a dog is seen as a bike in the eyes of the law, it's still a crime to take something that doesn't belong to you without premission. All crimes should be followed up by the police regardless of how serious the offence is.
The posters that was made by a friend does state that there is a reward. I agree 100% about cctv its there to prevent crime and to be used as a tool to investigate a crime and use as evidence.  I'm so down at the moment, I haven't slept or eaten since he went missing. That boy is my life, I've had him since he was 6 weeks old. I keep wondering if he is ok, has he been fed, has he had some water and hoping that know one is hurting him.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi am in Bradford but am willing to help poster the area. Is there still the market in Huddersfield?   It's a long while since I went to it -   just might be worth putting  posters up there  too if it's still going   Places like local car boot sales and other "organised" local events are good places to poster  As is proven - posters  are a good way to get your dog noticed and hopefully reunited quickly  xxx  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Just want to wish you luck in getting you little lad back. I had my pup stolen last month and got him back last week, thanks to the many posters I put up a lovely couple saw my poster in their local vets who recognised my dog straight away and knew a guy in their neighbourhood who had been bragging about stealing a dog. The police I am sorry to say do not give a flying anything about dog theft, keep pestering and ringing them.Good luck.cath.XLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Brilliant, you've done all the right things quickly. Unfortunately dogs are just considered property like bicycles. It's wrong, they're part of the family. I know it's difficult when the police seem indifferent, but make sure you follow it up with them (especially the cctv. I thought that was what it was there for, to prevent and solve crime!!! ). Try speaking to someone else if possible if you are getting nowhere with them. Hopefully the dog warden will be helpful. They may have more suggestions of things to do. Make sure the posters state that there is a reward.   Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I informed the police yesterday. An officer came round today only to tell me that a dog is like a bike they get stolen everyday. This guy had no intension of helping, who in the right mind compares a dog with a bike?. I've asked the officer to go and check the cctv as my whole street in monitored.  Lets see what the he finds. Posters have been put up in Tesco, Sainsburys, all pub in my area pet stores and I've even put some on lamp posts and the university.  I've informed the micorchip company and my insurance company who have offered a huge reward. currenty waiting for a call back from the dog warden and a few friends are phoning the dog kennels and vets. Thanks for all your help and supportLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Report this to the police and obtain a CRIME NUMBER. Don't be fobbed off, he was stolen! Inform the microchip company, and the dog warden. Check with the dog warden and the local kennels they use, and any local rescue kennels in case he is dumped. It is essential to check daily, and visit if possible as sometimes they don't get logged correctly by some places. Poster everywhere, including vets, shops, pet shops, markets. Make him too hot to handle. Check and poster everywhere that dogs are sold locallly, including pubs. Put missing notice in local paper and Ad Trader. Need to cover all bases. Good luck x Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Sorry to see Chiqo is missing, great you have supplied us with pictures and he is CHIPPED.  Please do leave an update on the circumstances and what you have done so far by selecting Add a Comment next to the blue cross just above other comments, to print posters, once logged in, select Dog Poster 1 above Other Information, you will find vets in the area and surrounding area by using the logo Find any UK Vet which flashes up underneath the Latest Missing photo.  You must make him too hot to handle and poster, poster, poster everywhere and once the right person sees a poster you will get the call you are waiting for, good luck.   Jan xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
