- I know this is a long shot but, 2 weeks ago there was a dog wandering around Walnut Tree in Milton Keynes (by the sports field) that looked very dishevelled and matched the description. I drove past and saw it and thought it looked lost/stray but, could not stop at that moment. When I drove past 5 minutes later I did not see it. It just struck me as being lost that is why I drove back that way. I could not see any owner with it and if it had been there when I drove back I might have investigated as I felt sorry for it.
As I say it is a long shot but thought I would mention it. If I had been aware of a missing dog then I would have mentioned it earlier. The vicinity would fit and I have looked around again but never seen it since and often go that way. I will keep looking when I am around Caldecotte area.
Hope is found soon

- Nothing positive to report but thought would post an update on Liam, we have had no further sightings of Liam in the areas where he had been seen, we have invesigated some leads on found dogs - one at Vale Royal Council and another more recently called Rab at Edinburgh Dogs home who was very, very like Liam and owners were prepared to travel all the way to Scotland to check him out, he turned out to be entire so they did not have to make the trip. I am in regular contact with his owners and will always pass on any leads that we find. I have a clear picture of Liam in my mind, I learn more about him with each dog that we spot, so here's hoping one day it will be him.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- I have just missed a call from Cliff, they have been to the kennels this morning and it was not him, much darker coat, but once again grateful for the lead. So we are still searching a large area alongside the Grand Union Canal from Milton Keynes towards Leighton Buzzard and beyond. Thanks Julie at Appledown for your vigilance and alerting us to this possible match at another kennels out of the area.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- Thanks for the call earlier Jayne, I have spoken to Cliff, they are on the boat nearby Hemel Hempstead and they are making their way back down the canal towards home postering as they go ... They have spoken to the Kennels and the dog cannot go for rehoming until Tuesday so they are going to go in on Monday when they are back in the vicinity which gives them the weekend to continue to poster and search incase it is not him.- will let you know on Monday - (if I can last that long - might have to have a look myself before then)Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- Nothing new to report here with Liam, I checked out the stretch of Canal from Fenny stratford to 3 locks on Thursday morning but no sign, This quote from an email from Cliff and ValThanks for your earlier phone text. The last possible sighting was Thursday, 21st when a local dog walker has been reported as having a dog like Liam following him and his dog. This man tried to catch the dog butwithout success. We are still trying to find out who this man is. This reported sighting was in the meadow near the canal (oposite The Wyvern Shipping Company) in Leighton Buzzard. We have been to this area a couple of times calling Liam. Julie from Appledown kennels at Eaton Bray, near Leighton Buzzard has also been helping with searches in that area. We have given doglost posters/mini posters to dog walkers and local people who live on boats in the area. We have e-mailed posters to more vets and dog training clubs who may not have had details. We are getting lots of help and support from various individuals and organisations. This is greatly appreciated. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- Val has just called me with some news - following some great local news coverage - will get link as soon as I can find it they have had a call with a SIGHTING of Liam, this was from KING STREET in Leighton Buzzard- and he has been seen here for the last few days. This area is some 10 miles from Simpson but only a few hundred yards from the tow path side of the Grand Union Canal where he jumped ship in Milton Keynes, so seems that he is sticking to the canal but travelling in the opposite direction to home. Can anyone help in the Leighton Buzzard area? and possibily further up the Canal going South from Milton Keynes towards London. Julie at Appledown Kennels is aware and Val will call the South Beds dog warden to alert. Help in this area would be very much appriciated as it takes Val & Cliff well over on hour to get to Leighton Buzzard. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- Cliff rang today. If there is to be a search party please let us know and we will get members to gather. Unfortunately a few of us are out at shows fundraising this weekend and bank holiday Monday. I have given him a few more suggestions, Dog training clubs, agility clubs and the local vets. If everyone could flier the whole of their email addresses in a 20 mile radius and ask them to flier their email addresses that way the word gets spread quickly. Wish I could get up there and search but will remind our members. Jennyx www.southernlurcherrescue.org.uk Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- Thank you Jenny for your kind offer - I will pass your number from your website to Cliff & Val, it all seems to have gone a bit quiet here, I have been looking every day - Cliff has moved the boat nearer to the point of the last sighting at the plough pub, the bins looks relativly untouched this morning (bin day today in Simpson) apart from a couple of houses at the top of Hammer road, I will stick leaflets through those doors tomorrow when I go back next.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- A quick update on the search for Liam, his owners have followed up on a lead from CJ about a dog at Bristol, there were enough similarities with the dog to warrant them making the trip to see yesterday, the first thought when they walked in the room was that it was him, but sadly it was not but they were very pleased to have made the trip to check him out, while they were on route they had a call from a lady dog walker who had just seen a poster of Liam who had seen him on Friday 8th in the car park of the Plough pub at Simpson, he ran away when she tried to call him but he looked ok , just frightened. This pub is just a few hundred yards away from the spot that he jumped off the narrowboat so it seems that our initial thoughts that he had gone to ground in the area could be founded. The narrow boat is still moored at the spot that Liam jumped ship and his bed and water is on board on the open part of the boat. Pub regulars and dog walkers are well aware of Liam and many are detouring walks to look for him. I will visit Cliff later and advise an area to be scented and we will give a big push over the weekend with new mini posters and if it ever stops raining! a late night BBQ. Thanks CJ for all your help and support .Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- I have been in regular contact with Liams owners, they have postered Willen lake although not really close it is a great place to conatct loads of dog walkers. I was out arly this mornning and walked for several miles along the tow path and back, just as I was finished the walk I bumped into Cliff and Val in person, they are going to stay on the boat this weekend so I have suggested a BBQ tonight. They gave a leaflet to a walker yesterday who had seen Liam alone on the tow path but that was last Friday, so it seems he has stayed in the area but may have gone to ground. Will keep looking Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- Thank you Angus, for all you are doing. Brilliant you are in the area. Very sound advice there, and great the boat has been kept in the same place. We know from past experience dont we, that dogs will often return to the place of loss if they possibly can. It may take a few days of patience, but sounds like the owners have the right idea, so fingers crossed Liam will be back safely soon. Good Luck, and please keep us all informed. xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- I have spoken to Cliff - Liam's owner this afternoon, he is doing all the right things - there have been a couple of possible sightings one on Saturday at Midnight by McDonalds at CMK which was reported to MK dogwarden and a further one on Tuesday 29th at 3.30pm closer to the canal where he was lost. For those walking he jumped off the boat by Bridge 91 near to the Plough pub at Fenny Stratford. Liam is a rough coated deerhound type lurcher and is large - he is friendly with other dogs and useless at Bunnies. Photo will be sent to admin tomorrow. The boat has been left near to the spot where he was lost with water and dry food and his bed- I have recommeded putting some pilchards or tripe as well to draw him in.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- I have been to Simpson today to look for Liam but no luck as yet. This canal route is through the centre of Milton Keynes but the village of Simpson is quite 'green' with lots of hedges and undergrowth for Liam to hide in which of course will make it harder to spot him.I have sent a text to the owners offering some help and local knowledge, the last dog lost in this area turned up at Caldecotte lake so will scout around this area as the waterway runs very close to the lake.I have asked for a photo as this will be vital in getting sightings coming in. There is a mobile no for the owners on a poster I found on the village noticeboard - it is 07981 830766Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- If Liam has jumped off a narrow boat presumably it is in the country - dont know this part of the world - try local farmers, they are all out in the fields now, poster them, even go to farmers combining and ask them to keep in their cab, as they have a great view of field edges from high up. keep your spirits up, and come on Liam show yourself little chap. xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- Firstly inform the Dog warden who you will be able to contact at your council offices. Posters (In plastic folders) need to be put up in the area where Liam went missing, or where there have been sightings if any - on lamp posts, entrances to parks and strategic places in parks, like at the start and finish of tracks and paths, dog bins, at vets, pet shops, pubs, carry-out food shops, post offices, local shops who often allow postcards in the window, supermarkets who have notice boards, community centres, youth clubs, schools etc. You can ask the postman, milkman, taxi drivers, street cleaners, bin men (even put poster on bins), to take some flyers and hand them out on their rounds. You can ask school bus drivers and kids on the bus, or if you have kids on the bus, get them to hand out flyers at school. Deliver flyers to houses, businesses & pop through letterboxes . Hand out flyers to people in the street, especially dog walkers. Put posters or flyers in car windows. Rescue centres and kennels, also police offices need checking regularly and preferably visited in person, by owner or someone who knows the dog, because your dog or it's breed may not be recognised by other people. Also police are sometimes too busy to deal with it. Get some media coverage if you can, by asking the local radio station to broadcast him as missing and put an ad in the local newspaper with a picture of him. Hope Liam is back home soon.
