A lovely ending to a traumatic time. Well done owners for pulling out all the stops to get this cutie pie home and top marks to the shift worker for taking the time to get the number off the poster and then turn down the reward. What a star!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Oh I am just sooo pleased to see Genie has been found safe and well.  Have been out at a dog show today, and it was lovely to see her in the blue on my return!   Huge huges to Mr/Mrs Nightworker who took the trouble to phone in .. what a star that person is.   How lucky is Genie .. Welcome Home.  I will see Kath W tomorrow, she is camping at the show, so I don't think she will be up to date on this, I am sure she will be thrilled too!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Oh thank you so much every one that helped. Jo, the essex rep was brilliant and all the advice right up to getting Genie in our arms was invaluable to her return. There are sick people in this world that took my baby but the good kind people that helped us get her back far out weight the bad ones. I will forever be in the debt of everyone that helped and will certainly be comited to helping doglost for the rest of my life. Genie is a bit bruised and very thin but TLC and she will get there, the sighting this morning was thanks to all the signs and posters put up in Essex. My genie baby is home xxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Oh yes, what brilliant news. A huge and well-deserved WELL DONE to Genie's owners, helpers (not to mention the DL Co-ordinator!) and, of course, to the wonderful and caring nightworker who, after a long night shift, took the time and trouble to make sure that Genie came to no harm and who reunited her with her worried owners. Never mind about kissing Genie to bits, I expect the finder got a few hugs as well! I expect that this very precious and pretty girl is already lined up for a chip and a nice, new, shiny ID tag on her collar as a welcome home present!

So very pleased to come on and see this fantastic news.   Well done to the owners for their complete dedication to getting Genie home and what a huge debt of gratitude to the night worker who did the business - would be nice to know their name - or was that Humphrey?   I always say I would camp out in the area if my dogs went missing, and that's what owners did and got the result.   Well done.   Welcome home Genie, lovely girl, and enjoy the rest of your life xx

Just the best news ever for you all this morning.....GENIE IS HOME!!!!!!! Genie was spotted this morning by a night worker on his way home. He went back to a poster, got Gwain's number and Gwain was straight there (as he'd been camping out over the A13 way where previous sighting was) and caught Genie. She is a bit thin but otherwise seems okay. She had made her way across the A127 (onto the London bound side) and was right down near the A130 roundabout in a field there. Looked like she'd been in that area for a little while. Such a happy ending, and the one we were all hoping for. Well done everybody who put posters up, emailed around and spread the word. Kate and Gwain you really did do your Genie proud and so deserved her back. I am just so pleased for you. And well done night worker! Kate/Gwain will be along to poster later! Wooooo hooooo!!!!!!!!  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

If anyone local is able to spare a couple of hours at all over the weekend to hit the bootsales with posters and flyers as they get lots of visitors, that would be great.
I'm heading over that way around midday probably Saturday and Sunday so if anyone needs a lift/wanted to meet up and combine efforts let me know...Will of course link up with owners so we can all ensure everyone out searching covers various areas to get good coverage.Last edited: 2016-12-14 22:17:57 by Jo - Area Co-ordinator, Essex

I so hope she is found soon.  I am afraid that I am too far to help look personally - but I will be putting an advert in the "B&Q classifieds" - as we have lots of staff that work in stores in the area.  It only takes one person to spot her.  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Its the V Festival this weekend at Hylands Park, Chelmsford - if any one is local to that area and can get posters up over that way, that will be a help. Lots of people will obviously be travelling there from various routes. Have emailed organisers to see if they are able to display Genie's poster over the weekend.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thank you everyone. Please lets not give up on my little girl yet. We need as much help at the weekend as we can, boot sales, markets, events in Essex. Ask people to keep a look out at night. Any contacts with the t.v, radio, newspapers, I need the whole of Essex to be looking for this dog at the weekend. I know you have all done so much to help already, but we need some good solid sightings to help with our search.
Thank you again

Re Old A13, she was seen nearer Orsett way - the bit that runs from Laindon Hills, Hordon on the Hill r/b to Orsett Cock r/b. Not far at all from where she went missing from - if she goes over the A13 foot bridge and then approx 1/4 mile across a field she be back to the area missing from. Scenting has been done and will be kept up. All 4 banners up on A127 and A13 and the bigger posters at slip roads etc on to and off these roads.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi guys, another update for you.... Owners have a fair few calls today, some dodgy ones, but of course they are following them all up. These were mostly from the Tilbury and South Ockendon areas, they saw a few fawn lurchers on sites but not Genie. Then, which is more promising, they had a call with a sighting from 1.30am this morning. This sighting was on the old A13, which isn't too far from where she went missing from. They have been to the area, postered, done some scenting and are also camping over that way tonight. Come on Genie....show yourself again! The banners and bigger posters that they had printed have arrived and they're putting them up too. All the calls and awareness is down to everyone's hard work so keep it up and hopefully Genie will be in the blue very soon.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I've cross posted Genies details onto some Greyhound forums I'm a member of.  Most of the members are based in the Essex area and have Greyhounds and/or Lurchers.  I've also left links back to this site. There is a Pets At Home in Pitsea. How do I get hold of posters to print off?  I could put some up in the local area when I take my Greyhound out for walks.  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

If Garden centres will put posters up- excellant place for loads to see. if approached with the story im sure they would respond.Maybe have a poster along with copy taken of story from local paper??  Other places are the big pet food animal stores such as 'pets at home' or 'pets r us' if you have any of them near?? i know there are a couple of Big aquatic centres as i have used them ( Billericay aquatics in brentwood ) Im sure they would diplay a couple of posters if asked. ANY PLACES where loads of people go- also local library. Do the local kids have any council run play schemes?? IF so ask if can be given out either as mini flyers or as a one of verbal message- lots of kids on holiday out and about in areas dogs may be .Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Excellent....great job everyone! Yes, had press coverage - the Basildon Evening Echo ran a feature yesterday and owners also got something in the Thurrock Gazette.....they bought in some calls confirming the sightings and exact locations on the Sunday afternoon which was good. Essex FM said they would do an appeal and assured me they'd keep her on details on record as they do often get calls from the public re dogs. Headed over that way tonight but saw 2 PCSOs on route so stopped and spoke to them, giving them a poster. They said they'd tell others and put the poster up at the station too. Had to go back home after that but planning on going back out for a look around in about 30 mins or so. Come on Genie!!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I wasn't able to walk the path alongside part of the A127 between Rayleigh Weir and the A130 this morning as had to take one of my dogs to the vets. On the way back from walking my two other dogs I met Sue who owns Acres Way Boarding Kennels/Dog Pound I spoke to her regarding Genie and she is aware of  her situation and what she looks like. I will try and walk the path tomorrow and have logged your mobile phone nos onto my mobile phone. I live in Thundersley but don't drive, however I will look out for Genie in case she has come into the area. You're all doing fantastically, keep up the postering and the scenting - Jotty has great expertise now in searching for running dogs on roads, and I've got every confidence that Genie is out there - she's probably shocked and lying low at the moment, but give her time to realise her belly needs feeding and she'll be out hunting before we know it.  Will keep checking in for updates!  xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

After features in local press, owners have had a few more calls with sightings from Sunday.....good and bad news..... So, to update you all, she was seen Sunday around 1.30/2pm towards the end of Hovefields Avenue - there is a park down the end and a pub nearby and it was along that road that she was spotted. Shortly after around 2/2.30pm she ran out of the A127 end of Hovefields Avenue (where Gemini Kennels are) onto the A127 and was unfortunately hit by a car. She rolled over a few times and got herself onto the central reservation. From there she is known to have run along the central reservation for about 2 miles (as a motorcylist was following her and he's called to report it) up to where Novem kennels is (although she was at this point more on the London bound side of the centre still). After this owners do not know where she went - she may have gone to either side of the carriageway. They have extensively walked the area, postered etc and nothing yet. They have walked along the central reservation and verges and checked and again no sign. Really hoping for another sighting after Sunday or if not one after the motorcylist saw her to establish which way she then went. Owners would like me to pass on their thanks to everyone who is helping them in their search for Genie, they really are very grateful. They are going to head over to Pitsea market tomorrow and dish out some flyers there. Keep it up everyone.....we need Genie home and in the BLUE soon!  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I have cross posted to Greyhound Gap and Sighthounds Online forums.  A lady is cross posting to the groomers network for you.
Has she been registered as missing with Lurcher Search?  Their website is  www.lurcher.org/lsuk.  This would get her more widely known as missing in the sighthound groups.
Good luck, I hope you can find Genie soon

Thanks Happy Dog. From speaking to the owners yesterday, I think that she was originally seen just after the turning for Gemini Kennels - Hovefield Avenue running Southend bound. She was going quite quick and was also seen further along approaching the A130 slip road area - near to Novem kennels (on the other side). Since those original sightings at around 2pm nothing since. I'm sure Genie's mum will update later when she's back but they're out postering again today. They've got some bigger posters being done and also banners which will be ready Thursday. They are really doing a great job as are everyone helping them. They are widening the search too as she could have been picked up by someone out of area. Hopefully with the local press coverage she'll get some more calls and we'll be able to piece together a few more pieces of the jigsaw to get to the end picture of Genie tucked up safely at home!  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Does anyone know exaclty where she was seen on the A130/A127 and have there been any other sightings please? I live in Thundersley and where I walk my dogs it quite close to the A127 at Rayleigh Weir. I took them on a longer route this morning that takes in a footpath alongside the A127 going from Rayleigh Weir towards the A130 (Basildon direction) on the Thundersley side of the A127, but no luck. Met a two other people who I told about Genie, also met a friend who has horses on some land near the A130 who ill keep a lookout. I don't drive but will keep looking locally as and when I can. I will pass your number on to the owners as think they're out and about again today postering etc. Hopefully we have the local Echo running the story and I know they had already approached the Thurrock Gazette to get an ad at least in there. We need max coverage as if she has been picked up again, the person could be from the surrounding areas. I am sure more people must have seen her on on the Sunday she was seen on the A127 as well.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Oh dear ! Sorry to come in and read this. I can imagine how owner must feel. I will email all the vets in the area and anyone else I can think of for you. I honestly believe she will stay away from the road, and will have found somewhere safe to settle for the night. She may surface early morning at break of day, but I would not be surprised if she doesn't hole up now for a few days. Stay safe Genie until we find you xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

A contact at the Evening Echo has kindly said he'd run the story and will try and get it in tomorrows paper - this covers the south Essex....Southend, Basildon, Thurrock etc so getting good coverage for Genie.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks for registering and posting Genie's mum. As I said to you, we will all do all we can to help you find your girl. I have emailed and spoken to an Essex FM DJ and she has promised to do all she can to get an annoucement on there. Although they are normally unable to make lost dog appeals, given the nature of Genie's disappearance and the fact she was seen on the A127 they will do what they can. Fingers crossed that brings in some more sightings. Have also sent an email to Tracie at Southend Radio asking her to do an appeal on her show tomorrow (the 10am - 2pm slot) - she did an appeal for us last week for Doris so hopefully she'll do one for Genie too. Have also alerted other contacts - some DL helpers in the area, friends etc. Will give you a call later and sort out where I can help poster for you. We'll have lots of eyes in south Essex looking.....they'll be no hiding her so hopefully she'll be home with you very soon. Keep the posters going up, we've really got to make her too hot to handle. You're doing a great job so far. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
Genie's mum
I am Genie's mummy and I am going frantic, we have only spent 5 days apart in 3 years, since the day she opened her eyes. I can't even go to the loo without her. I have suffered bad depression for the last 5years and since I found Genie I have been well again she gives me so much joy. Everyone please help find her, she may be scared and hidding somewhere. If you live in the south of essex then please just take ten minutes to go out with some food and call her name, she is nervous but very trusting if you use her name and get down to her she will come. Or phone me immediatly and we will come. There will be a reward for her return so if you have her then please take her to the nearest vets or dog kennels where they can scan her and contact me. Whoever has taken her has taken my heart.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Although I expect owners have already notified the Basildon DW, I've just sent Genie's details to her direct. At work at the mo but will give owners a call shortly and see what I can do to help with postering as not far away. Will alert everyone I know in the area too. Stay safe Genie. xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Stolen from van in Orsett, Thurrock area of essex. Was then susspected to have escaped or thrown out 8 miles away and was sighted running along the A127 near Basildon Southend carriageway towards the junction for the A130 to Chelmsford at 2pm. No sightings since and the road has been searched. Genie was hand reared from 10 days as someone had already abandond her so she is a mummys baby and would be very nervous if aproached but she is trusting if you are kind, she is about 16" at the shoulder has a sandy/ light brown coat that is rough down her back and smooth on her head, a white chest and white tips on her paws. On her back left foot one of her toe nails stick up in the air from a toe injury playing on the beach and she has a long body and short legs ANY SIGHTINGS PLEASE PHONE ANY OF THESE NUMBERS 07970571229 07894647054 01322278073 01375893893 07711187678
If you are ANYWHERE near this area please get posters up ASAP to help owners. Thanks CJ
