Amazing postscript to Captain's story:

"Update
Captain had a very comfortable night and will be seeing a vet today . Sore pads a few ticks and weight loss which should be easy to deal with.
I want to tell you a story about captain and his adventures.
When mapping sightings for a lost dog we can usually work out the route hes doing and can make plans to help get the dog safe. Captain travelled quite a bit before he eventually settled but he wasnt following the normal routes I would of expected. He seemed to be visiting golf courses. He visited 5 on his journey. I spoke to his owner regarding this and that's when it became clear what he was doing.

In August 2014 captain went missing for 10 weeks in Edinburgh. He was located living on a golf course with 2 foxes. When he was eventually caught he was acting like a fox and his fur had even changed to fox colour. The rescue had never seen anything like it. Two years later he disappeared from his garden but did return quickly with a fox in tow.
This now explained what captain was doing. He was looking for his friends. Hopefully it's the last foxy adventure but it's so sweet to know the love he had for his vixens all those years ago has never been forgotten.

We had cameras monitoring his movements and one was actually hidden in a bird box. On Tuesday morning we had a blue tit come and investigate the box and within an hour he returned with the family. We had 3 blue tits who moved in . The rescue of captain has actually been like naturewatch for us.
Thankyou again everyone who helped and rang in sightings for captain. Let's hope he stays safe now with janette and doesnt go looking for anymore vixens. X"

Full update from Mandy Butler on Captain's FB group:
"Captain is safe and on his way home with Janette McCabe. I want to thank everyone who abided by our requests to not chase or shout but to ring in the sightings..we were able to work his route out but sadly he got spooked this morning on his journey with grass cutters and weed sprayers. We have had so many calls and messages and lots of help off the local community to help us get captain safe. He had moved a fair distance this morning but we managed to track his route and have been monitoring him till his owner arrived from Edinburgh. Advice was followed and within half an hour he was in janette s arms. Welcome home captain and well done to the ground team and to the community of Westhill
Special thanks also to fubar news lost and found pets x"

Captain has been spotted in the Westhill area of Aberdeen. Unfortunately he ran when approached. If anyone does happen to see him, please report sighting but leave him alone and do not try to approach or interact. Methods are in place to safely secure him. For this to happen, he needs to feel safe in the area he is situated. Thank you for your support Last edited: 2019-08-11 21:34:38 by Janette
