A dark coloured dog, with no apparent owner, was spotted inside the Quarry adjoining Slade Woods on Tuesday evening (20th). They couldn't say if it actually resembled Spud, it was just a small dark coloured dog, but it's possible he could still be around so please keep looking folks!! Thanks. Unfortunately the sighting in St Brides/Carrow HIll has now been ruled out - I have spoken to the milkman who saw the dog in Jonesy's garden and he has confirmed it was definitely an old collie dog and not Spud. :-( So we are back to square one, he could be anywhere and we desperately need sightings.
Butternut
Thanks Rosie, yes very likely, the latest sighting was more Carrow Hill direction. He could well be looping round the whole area from St Brides up to Carrow Hill, over to Dewstow and down to Rogiet. ?? I'm guessing but possible.
Rick
Thank you so much for all your efforts. We really appreciate it.

Rosie: much appreciated to keep an eye out thanks!

Butternut: thank you so much, that's wonderful, fingers crossed he comes back there if him.

Sarah: that dog was not micro chipped and spud is so can't be him but thanks.

I am really hoping he turns up, we have been really very upset. My dad put in an enormous amount of effort to search for him but we don't seem to have got anywhere yet. I'm not sure what the best thing for us to do now is...

Many thanks,

John (and Rick owner)
Rosie
Butternut, thanks. We walk in Slade Woods quite often, I'll look out. We live the other side (towards Carrow Hill) - I guess it is possible Spud might have made his way over here.
Rosie
Jonesy, where are you?
Butternut
Have been down and spoken to Jonesy, leaving food out and camera, in case he returns.
Jonesy
I think spud was in our garden 4am this morning. Have contacted owner directly

@Rosie Yes I'd say it's part of Slade Woods - do you know the little dead end lane that goes up just along from the BP petrol station, there's a car lot on the right where the builder's merchants used to be, and the lane goes under the motorway, with an entrance to Ifton quarry at the top? You can get to the woods through a field on the left there, and it was in there that he went from.
Sarah
I don't know if owner just wants to check this one out - Bristol not that far away. On the Pets Located website but Bristol Dogs Home often list found dogs on there so could be worth a check. https://www.petslocated.com/pet-search.php?type=f#.XU8JVuhKg2w

Rosie
By "Rogiet Woods" do you mean Slade Woods?
Butternut
To skyninchar - it is very possible he's gone down a hole, being the type of dog he is. The area is vast, there are so many potential places and many of them under thick scrub, I don't know where I'd start. If you use a hose, how far away can you pick up sound (I've no idea how far one rabbit warren or badger set stretches under ground)?

Please note the home phone number has now been replaced with another mobile number as that home phone does not work apparently I have just been told . I did not register Spud though so that error is nothing to do with me..the Patterdale at Newport dogs home has been ruled out as Spud by owner . X

Could he have gone to ground, possibly stuck down a rabbit hole, has an organised search been done with pieces of hose to listen down holes,..hoping he comes home soon
Butternut
Sadly there have been no sightings of Spud since the day he went missing. If anybody has time to put posters up around Caldicot, Rogiet, Magor areas that would be very helpful, thanks. There is so much woodland, scrub and also the disused quarry etc - a million places for him to find shelter and keep hidden, and plenty of rabbits for him to eat. I've spoken to someone from the quarry and he is going to ask the guys who go on site regularly there to have a good look for him. Spud's owner has spoken to Highways about the motorway (he was seen on there shortly after going missing, apparently dodging traffic, but was chased off it and the sighting at the school was a couple of hours later)
Butternut
Just to clarify, from speaking to Rick and from Facebook comments, I understand that the sighting at 5pm on Saturday (as above) was near Rogiet Primary School, he apparently was seen running from St. Marys Church straight down towards the school then headed towards Station Road.Last edited: 2019-08-05 22:25:04 by Butternut
