Sorry to hear that there is no sign of Lucy but I wouldn't give up hope.Its suprising how a dogs have the capacity to look after themselves when they have to. I live in the area so if any help is needed please contact me. 01706 813893   Rachel

I am so sorry that Lucy has not turned up. What a mystery as to where she is and what has happened to her - poor old lass. I hope you find her soon or have some sort of closure. What an awful situation.

oh my god i could just cry reading this tale,,its such a shame,,,maybe she was just disorientated and couldnt get home..i know mine at 15 didnt know where he was half the time!  wherever Lucy is lets home she is at peace with herself,,she may surprise us all yet xx

e mail from owner: Thanks for all your help and support. Unfortunately Lucy never did turn up. It has been said to me that maybe she decided her time had come, and certainly she was a rescued dog that was never really domesticated. She was also very intelligent.  As she was incontinent at the end she was not allowed the run of the house at night and was shut in a downstairs room - a large one - but it was not really what she liked. During the day when I was in the kitchen I would just leave the door open for her and she would potter in and out and then, if we were lucky, do her business outside. And that is what happened - I saw her go out of the kitchen door, come back and then go out again. I just finished what I was doing then went out to make sure she was ok - I never saw her again. This was 6.15am. All the dog owners in the surrounding area who walk their dogs up in the hills looked for her. She was very fond of the old farmer who lived next door. He died a couple of years ago and she would occasionally go round looking for him. He is buried up in the hills - yes, really - and maybe she went a little too far trying to find him. Who knows. Our other dog, a 2 year old golden retriever, was quite ill for a bit and it was a worry that we were about to go on holiday and leave her in the kennels, but in fact that turned out to be a help as she is very happy there with the other dogs and now we are all back, and her little friend, Bonny, who belongs to a friend, is staying with us for a day or two and she was very excited to see her. Personally, I don't think Lucy would have gone off to die, I had always thought I would be with her when it happened. I think she either had a stroke or heart attack or became tangled up somewhere and couldn't get out. Most animals come back to die - we even had a hamster that escaped and lived behind the Aga and shared the cat's food and one day this shrivelled little brown blob came out, staggered over to me and just died.

I should imagine someone has taken her in as the weather hasn't been very nice so I cannot stress the importance of putting up posters and doing door to door in the immediate area she went missing from. It's amazing the number of people who take dogs in without realising they have to report them to anybody. Keep your chin up and good luck with the search x

Could she have got her collar caught up on something. An old girl like this probably wouldn't have the strength to free herself. Hope she is found very soon.

come on lucy..show yourself to someone so you can be reuited..much too cold and wet for an old lady like you to be roaming around.  i'm sure at her age she can't have gone far. all the best of luck in finding her.xx

I have spoken with Lucy's owners this morning and as yet no news of this poor old dog despite a concentrated search taking place. I have suggested they really thoroughly search the immediate area again as she may well be trapped somewhere. hoping for some news very soon x Pam

I'm sure you have done this, - but total search of outbuildings in case she has wandered in and got stuck, ditches in case slipped in, behind buildings, under bushes in case she has been taken unwell. Are there any ponds or lakes or swimming pools - any other danger zones? I dont think she will have gone far either.

She can't be far away, an old girl like this. Contact the Dog Warden and the local rescue kennels every day . Poster all around the area where she went missing as someone must have taken her in surely. An old girly like this cannot wander too far. Hope she is found very, very soon.

Breaks my heart when oldies go walkabout. Get posters put up at your local supermarket and schools where plenty of people will see them. Also ask postmen, taxi drivers and local bus companies if they will display postes for you. Hope you find your beloved pet soon. Sorry I am too far away to be of any help.

Poor old girl ! Poster absolutely everywhere, hopefully someone has seen her or taken her in. If you haven't already, then inform the dog warden first thing monday morning (they don't work over the weekend). Ask which kennels they use and check them daily, in person if possible as she could be registered under the wrong breed.  Speak to everyone you can in the surrounding area, and give people a poster. Especially tell any dog walkers you meet and know so they are on the lookout as well. Put up posters in vets, local shops, pubs, anywhere possible. Spread the word and hopefully she will soon be back at home where she belongs. Also, if there are farms nearby, tell the owners and workers to be on the lookout. Good luck x
