I'm so pleased to hear that Ava is back home - what a clever girl for finding her own way although I hope she looked left and right when she crossed that busy road (I had a dog that used to do exactly that and so you never know). I expect you will all be enjoying a lovely cosy evening together tonight and how lovely it will be when you wake up in the morning and find Ava in her usual sleeping place. Well done to everyone who helped look for this beautiful girl but especially to Yasa who provided advice and words of encouragement. Welcome home Ava!

How wonderful that you got your 'beautiful Ava' back, you must have been so surprised when she came back on her own.  Stay safe now Ava.  Kind Regards JulieLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Well! a neighbour called about an hour ago to say they thought someone had seen a large dog near the house but it had run away. This was shortly after we had lost Ava last night so she must have crossed the dual carriageway and come home as soon as she realised she couldn't see us. George and I immediately walked around the village calling her but had no luck. Back home getting more posters ready and feeling completely useless when I heard a jangling sound. I was just about to bite G's head off for jangling his keys (he's been doing it all day and I kept thinking it was the dog's tags) when Ava trots in through the back door. She was thirsty but otherwise doesn't have a scratch on her. Can I say a big thankyou to everyone who helped us with the advice and posters. There were times when I felt I couldn't cope with another search with no dog at the end of it but knowing there were other people willing me to find her kept me going. Can I say an extra special thankyou to Yasa for all the help and support. It made an enormous difference and  I really can't thank you enough. It's such vital work you do and your sympathetic yet practical advice made me feel we had a chance of finding Ava when everything seemed hopeless. Thank you all again from the bottom of our hearts, Ava & the Millers xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Went out to look for her as soon as it got light this morning but still no news. Word has spread among all the other dog walkers but no one has seen a thing. I have started putting up posters and will go back out soon to do the rest.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

She's very familiar with this walk as it's our usual park. I'm so worried because, although it's really close to our home she has to cross a busy dual carriageway to get back. Although she'll chase rabbits, squirrels, deer etc she's always kept an eye on us and comes when called. I had to come back when it got dark to get the kids to bed but will go out 1st thing when it gets light. Thanks for the tip about pilchards - She often has them with her biscuits so I'll certainly take some with me with some running clothes from the bottom of the laundry basket! We'll also put up posters everywhere and call any rescues we couldn't contact last night. Thank you all so much for the suggestions, I just can't believe she's not here ToniLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Is she familiar with this walk ? that is does she know the area, and is it far from your home? Is there any possibility she could find her way home? If so leave access for her to get into the garden etc, with bedding there too. She may have got on a rabbit and camping out tonight. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

There is a real good chance that Ava is still around the area she went from. Most dogs do come back to the place they last saw their owners. find a safe place around that area and leave some of her bedding and clothing with your scent on, plus some smelly food such as tripe or pilchards. this will keep her in the area. Please try to return there yourself at break of day and early evening times when she will be wanting food and out and about. Hand out posters to dog walkers in that area and place posters everywhere even on your car in the car park. Good luck and hope to see her on the reunited pages soon. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

So sorry Ava has gone missing, but thank you for registering on Doglost. Please upload a photo a.s.a.p for the poster. If you cannot do that, please email one straight away to admin@doglost.co.uk. If all else fails a mobile phone photo can be received by contacting head office. As soon as a photo is on site, your poster will be ready, and can be printed from your dogs page by selecting Dog Poster 1 . This will also be used by us and our helpers for cross matching any dogs that are found.  Please notify all dog wardens, police , animal shelters and vets, and leave us a comment with exactly where your dog has gone missing from, and the circumstances. To upload photos and to leave comments you must be logged in ( left hand side ?log in button)  and then once on your dogs page, click by the blue cross where it says ’add a comment’. We will do all we can to help. You need to poster widely immediately.  Good luck and hope you have good news soon.  Stay safe Ava until we find you xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Ava went missing today while we were out in Nonsuch Park (if anyone local is reading this) We've searched all over the park and no one has seen any sign of her. It is completely out of character for her to go off like this and she is very good at recall. I don't know where else to look. We've called the police stations, dog wardens and rescue centres and I'll call the vets tomorrow. If anyone has any suggestions or can think of anything else I've missed I would really appreciate it. Thanks, ToniLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
