Nirmal is home, didn’t need the trap in the end, just a pouch of felix!!! She eventually came next to me so I made a quick grab and placed her in her carrier. She’s well, maybe a little on the light side but content to be home. Thank you for your advice janiejewel1649

Hi Sarah, Good news then! Yes cats love wood. Even though an owner is present cats will sometimes feel very edgy because they are out of their comfort zone. They prefer to be with people they trust; their owners. And be in their own homes.. He may like being outside but please think of the hazards, such as foxes, but cats are unlikely to be attack by them. But be aware of farm vehicles etc. You could borrow a cat trap from Cat Protection, and as he likes cardboard as cats do, place some cardboard around the trap securely; obviously leaving the front open. Place in the trap some tuna which he loves, and something with his scent on; your scent too. Also cats can`t see in total darkness, it`s a fallacy. They cant`see any better than us. However they can see better than us in semi-darkness Good luck. Paws xd

I’ve located Nirmal, she is half a mile from the Cattery on a small holding with pigs and horses, lots of wood! I went there last night to investigate as I’d only been told of some cat activity on the property, they noticed their security lights were going off at night and their animals were shut away. I went with tuna, her favourite, called for her almost gave up then heard a meow, spotted her a few feet from me, she then ran off and hid, I called more, heard her meow but didn’t see her, she eventually went quiet, I left the tuna. It was very dark and I think the torch made her wary. I’ll go back tonight with more tuna and a trap. The disappointing thing is I think she’s been there a while, the property owners knew nothing about a missing cat. The Cattery owner assured me she had notified the houses in the area. I don’t think Nirmal is scared just doesn’t want to be caught, she’s well and I think really enjoying it there, probably lots of mice!! She loves being outdoors. I’m not even sure a trap will work, she avoids any cage looking thing but loves a cardboard box.

Has any of the Catteries suggested a cat trap in the area where she went awol? In a residential area a cat that goes awol will usually find refuge in someone`s garden. Cats love the smell of wood, so is she stuck up a tree? When searching for Nirmal take with you an object with her scent on, and rattle some Dremies. Also do you own a dog, or is there a dog that Nirmal knows who could sniff her out? Also when searching use the same deodorant/perfume you use on a day to day basis as she will recognize the scent, and your the one she trusts. I know of someone who tried this, and it worked. And of course take with you her carrier. Why on earth did the cattery not let you leave it for for four days before letting you know? They should not charge you anything in my opinion. Paws xd.

janiejewel1649 thank you, I’ve had a look at the advice but unfortunately Nirmal didn’t disappear from her home address, she was staying at a Cattery while we were on holiday, 2 days into the holiday she was able to escape through a propped open fire door! Where the Cattery is it’s very rural and not knowing what direction she headed makes it very difficult to know where to begin. Unfortunately the Cattery only informed me 4 days after her escape. I have followed the advice from various cat organisations on who to contact and what to do, I’m now just waiting for at least one sitting.
