- Lovely news from Duke's FB page "SAFE, Duke a scared Romanian rescue that was spooked and ran off with his slip lead attached whilst on a walk in woodland near his home in Crawley on 27/11. He was sighted later that night close to the busy A264, then no sightings for 2 days. Over the following 4 days he was seen roaming a 2.5 mile square area, remote monitoring cameras were put in place and on one occasion he was observed with the thermal camera for 12 minutes whilst someone known to him was contacted, but a man walking home from work was enough to cause him to run again. At one point the police were involved as he was on a busy road :(, and he also interferred with a local shoot resulting in a not too happy gamekeeper! A pattern began to appear to his wanderings and a eventually a local farm were able to lure him with food and pick up the slip lead he was still wearing. Duke's 5 day adventure was over.
Special thanks to the volunteers from Holbrook Animal Rescue who helped with printing and putting up posters and following up sightings, and to the lady on the farm that spent time getting Duke to trust her." - 2019-11-27 21:15 Julie - Area Co-ordinator - Surrey & South London
