I'm just constantly amazed at what some people will do for a few pounds - I'm assuming this man would have sold her on.....thank goodness you stuck to your guns Sharon and made things very clear to the police.   Would be nice if the owners came on here, she was originally logged by JB - presumably that is her owner?   Hope they know how close they came to losing her.   Anyway, welcome home again big girl xx - would be nice to know her name!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Sorry, it is confusing.  I'll try to explain a bit but I'll try to keep it short too lol I nipped out in the car on Sat. night and when I got back this dog was in the street outside my house.  I recognised her as being a local dog but I didn't know where she lived so me and my kids walked the streets with her for about an hour trying to find her home but couldn't.  I brought her home but couldn't keep her here because I have two Akitas and one of them was trying to get to her so I phoned police, RSPCA etc. to see if she'd been reported missing.  Then I phoned round everywhere to get her a safe place for the night and ended up taking her to the nearest manned police station with a kennel.  When I got there, there was a man outside who tried to ask questions about her and followed us in to the station but he stayed out of sight of the desk so I didn't say anything about the dog until he went back outside.  I already mentioned about the scanning farce and the police letting us settle her in the kennel.  As we were leaving someone phoned from St. Anns claiming to be the dogs owner (which is strange because I'd not told anyone I was taking her there) so I reminded the police that I was sure that the dog was local to me and not to let her go, which they didn't.  When we got back outside the station, the man came up to us and said "My mate said he would have bought that dog off you" (which made me more sure that the person who'd just phoned wasn't the rightful owner).  The dog warden collected her from the station and when I phoned yesterday they said the owner had come forward.  I felt uneasy about it and just happened to have another look on here, saw that she'd been put on yesterday as missing so got in touch and it turned out that possibly whoever tried to claim her from the police on Saturday night was then trying to falsely claim her from the DW. The rest has since been put on here and I hope now that she's back home being spoilt rotten!  Hope that's helped it all make a bit more sense, I got confused myself a couple of times lol SharonLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Yes, I have to admit to some confusion too!   However, although it would be good to understand properly what exactly went on, main thing is that this gorgeous girl is safely home again, so welcome home big poppet! xx Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi, I contacted you yesterday about an Akita I found in Bestwood that was listed as missing on doglost. Just to let you know that I've just managed to get in touch with the owner again and he's on his way to collect her now. She seemingly hadn't been checked for a chip and when the owner got through to the kennels where she is he was apparently told that someone was already on their way to collect her! Just glad that she's going back to the right home and I can now have a good nights sleep again lol Take care and thank god for your service, things might have turned out differently if it wasn't for your website. Apart from them not being able to find the scanner, I can't really fault the police.  I wouldn't talk to them when I first went into the station because the man had followed us in and I didn't want to give too much info until he'd gone back outside.  Then I gave them a bit of a hard time during the phone conversation they were having with the person claiming to be the owner.  They made the kennel as comfy as they could (food, water, blankets) and let my son help fill the water bowl and they also let us make sure she was settled before we walked away.  They told the person on the phone that if she was theirs that they'd have to bring in papers, photos etc. as proof that she was their dog and that they'd have to do this before 9am Sunday morning because that's when they were handing her over to the dog warden.  They stuck to their word, didn't let her go to anyone overnight then handed her over to the DW on Sunday morning.  I'm just hoping now that she's ok and back home.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Just registered so I can post.  I'm the finder of this dog and spoke to the owner early this afternoon but I've not heard anything back.  I tried to phone a short while ago to see if there was any news on her but got no answer.  I don't want to make a pest of myself by keep phoning but I'm very worried that this girly hasn't got back to her rightful owner. As for the microchip, when I got her to the police station the police were going to scan her but couldn't find the scanner and still hadn't found it by the time we had to leave her there so I'm hoping that she was scanned either after we'd gone or at some point after the warden collected her from the police station. Anyway, I'll keep looking on here in case you get any news from the owner. SharonLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

But this dog is chipped so wouldn't the person claiming to be the owner have to produce some sort of identification to match the details from the chip company?Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Have spoken to owner and he has not collected the dog-so it must have been someone else!!!! have put him in touch with the finder so she can say what happened and maybe describe this man.  Hopefully the dog warden would have taken a contact address for the so called "owners."Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

A helper has just phoned to say she found this dog on Saturday but when she took it to the police station a man followed her asking questions too many questions about the dog. Then a lady phoned police trying to claim the dog but had said it went missing from St Annes-as they had no proof of ownership finder handed to dog warden. She has just rung the dog warden to be told the owner has come forward. Finder is concerned if it was the rightful owner or whether this man has claimed her. Will ring owner now. to clarify.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
