Still checking on Cassie, so sorry there's no news yet.   Come on Cassie, time to get on home now, lovely girl. Cassie's Mum, I'm sure you're still checking out kennels in the area, after this length of time this could be when she slips through the net if people are not being vigilant.......thinking of you and wishing her home.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi everyone, We have been out putting up new posters in the sightings areas.  Last sighting we had was last week, received a call from a man who saw a Collie cross who he thought was Cassie near the road next to Chester Moor but he said the dog he spotted was wearing a red collar.  Could have been her red disc that he spotted?  So we've been searching and putting up posters in that area.  However, we have also had to replace the posters on Waldridge Fells as we have been told the Fell Warden has ripped them all down! Will let you know if there are any further developments.  Thanks everyone for your help and support.  Helen xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Spoken to owners now.  A4 poster and various size smaller ones emailed to owner, jumanji and tracyb.  Mobile number now added to her poster.  Hope they help in the search for Cassie and we see her in the BLUE soon.  Brilliant that someone will be camping out.  Good luck.  Come on Cassie we want you back home.  Jan xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

A friend of a friend has offered to camp out for a couple of nights so he can see if it is Cassie eating the food.  We have also just found out that a guy living in one of the houses backing onto the woods has previously had strays come to his garden from the woods and he has been known to feed them.  Luckily my mum knows him and will be having a word with him this week when we start to put up the revised posters. We are going to change the design of the poster to be more eye catching in the hope that people will stop and read them. The worry is that people have seen these posters for the last few weeks and will not bother looking at the new information regarding sightings. So fingers crossed especially with the dark nights closing in. No sign of her at the local shelter.  Thinking of you Gay. with the Leeds sighting. I understand the Dogs Trust have a rehoming centre in Leeds maybe they would be willing to put up posters? Theres also Ponderosa kennels, and the Leeds, Wakefield and District RSPCA.  Good Luck. Helen xx Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks again annabel for all of your help.  Again no sightings for us this weekend, food is still be eaten which we have left by the river but there is no way of knowing if Cassie is the one eating it.  We are going to the kennels tomorrow to check just in case she has been taken in and will continue to do this each week.  We are also updating the poster to include the last sighting.    It is so difficult as the sightings cover such a vast area as annabel has said it is like trying to find a needle in a haystack. i agree that we are going to need another sighting.  Will let you know if ther are any developments.  Helen Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi Pam, Yes we have mapped the area, and the main sightings have been by the river in the same side of the woods where Gay spotted her. There have been 5 sightings in and around those woods. Unfortunately she has not been seen in this vicinity since being spotted running across the road. Although this does not necesarily mean she has left the area.  Food is being left and eaten, however, we have no assurance that it is Cassie eating the food, we can only hope. We will be updating the posters this weekend and getting them out so that people know that she has been seen recently hopefully this will encourage people to be watchful.   Sorry your balloon trip was cancelled Annnabel, hope you can reschedule. Will let you know as soon as there is more information.  Helen xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I do so hope you get this girl VERY soon ! This may be something you have already done but ........... have you actaully mapped all the sightings and dates of sightings you have had of her and seen if they make a pattern ? Sometimes dogs move backwards and forwards over the same area often in a triangular pattern. You then may from this  find the best place to hide the trap. I am thinking of you and wish you good luck ! xx Pam Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks for the bump Jotty!! Hope you enjoy your balloon trip today Annabel, you've certainly got the weather for it!  We have people out looking at the moment, and we have someone who works at the kennels specifically watching out for Cassie. I agree that she has gone into survival mode, so as you said we will just hope for a sighting and then put the trap out. Yes she does look like Freddie Bess n Barneys Mum that was a bit of a shock.  Infact I have been on a few rescue pages and seen dogs which look very like Cassie and there seem to be an awful lot of collies. Will let you know if there are any changes. Helen xx  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

oh she is there...closer to home all the time! think she has switched survivor mode, and obv not bothered being outside ;-) Helen,,,cant do today,if weather suitable at 2pm got a balloon trip booked, probs have to just potter the areas until another sighting then quickly lay the trap without even pestering her! I just dont see why she doesnt come home when she knows theat area? will she fit this trap? she looks a big girl,,will keep checking in today as off work, but obv no van ;-(  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I'm sure you have done this, but in case, and amongst all the searching, don't forget to check in person any rescue centres/kennels - we all have heard horror stories about how phone calls get ignored/misunderstood/mismatched etc.   It could be that Cassie has been or might be picked up.   And I know she is chipped, but...........       be safe lovely girl xx Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi Annabel, We now have a trap, thanks to Gay, unfortunately we don't know which area Cassie is in at the moment. Food was left this morning but when i checked this evening it had not been touched.  I have left some more food and will check again in the morning. Will keep you up to date and thanks Annabel, given the range of areas that she has been spotted it is difficult to cover them all. Unfortunately she may not even be in this area now.  Especially given that the last sighting was close to home and an area that she knew well. We will just have to keep hoping for another sighting.  Thank you everyone for you support. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi Just to confirm the sighting was definite, she was seen on the road leading to Chester Moor which is the road down from the cattery. If you drive from the style up towards the cattery then turn left at the roundabout she was seen leaving the wooded area on the left, crossing the 'very busy road' and into the woods on the right.  However, we are still going to check where we left food in the area where Gay spotted her just in case she comes back to there. Then we are looking at covering woods on both sides of the road. Mum will be speaking to the dog warden tomorrow to try and get some advice on how best to cover this area. We are going to recce the area so that we can find out if there are many houses surrounding that section of woods so that we can make sure we have enough posters up.  Thanks again everyone for all of the searching you are doing as I agree with Annabel that hill is very steep.  We also discovered that our signal on our mobile is quite weak when we are in the woods I was getting a lot of missed calls.  So please don't think we are ignoring the phone, we had a friend stand on the path above us and we did not recieve her call neither. Will keep you all posted. :-) Thanks. Helen x xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi Gay, thank you very much, this may be something we are going to need.  There has been no sign of Cassie today and the food we left was untouched, however, the GOOD NEWS is my Mum just received a telephone call 30 mins ago from a guy who saw Cassie about an hour after our last sighting of her yesterday and she was much closer to home.  She was seen on the new road leading to Chester moor and this is an area where mum gave her regular walks so she may be trying to get home. I dont know the full details but as soon as I do i will update. Thanks again Gay because it was your sighting that let us know that Cassie is still in the area.    Helen xx  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks to everyone for their help today, you've all been amazing. Sadly we did not bring Cassie home with us but atleast we know where she is hiding out.  We have left food for her and will return tomorrow and however many days it takes to coax her out. Unfortunately, she has shown today how terribly nervous of people she is.  A family walked towards her and that was the last we seen of her for the entire day.  I agree with  Bess 'n' Barneys Mum, we will go back tomorrow with a bbq and try the  softly approach. With it being Monday it should be very quiet and no people in that area to frighten her and we may stand a chance of coaxing her out. Will let you know what happens. Sounds like a nice smelly bbq is required here tomorrow if she's not caught today.   Hopefully if that could be set up near where she's been seen, it will tempt her out, then the softly softly approach, sitting down, back or side turned to her if she appears, no eye contact but quiet soothing encouraging chat to get her to come to you.   This has worked before, she probably hasn't recognised anyone yet but if she is tempted out with good food smells and then hears a familiar voice, this may do the trick.   Good luck and come on, Cassie, life's better at home xx     Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

If they dont catch her today how about we all go down there  and surround her see if we can trap her that way. I will finish work about 12 tomorrow so can be down ther for 1 which will give me a couple of hours before I have to go back to work again and I can be back there for about half past 4. Hi Annabel   I found Cassie this morning but couldnt catch her, I phoned Helen and she met me where I saw her and is staying there all day. I phoned again when I got home and they have seen her umpteen times but she wont come to them little minx. I am willing her to be home today. She is on the opposite side to where my car was and is about 400 yards into the wood right down by the stream. I'm keeping everything crossed and am praying for that phone call. Was your vehicle the flower van?   Gay xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi everyone, I have eventually solved the mystery of the disapearing posters, the Fell Warden has been removing them, and when my mums friend asked why he was taking them down he replied that a dog could not still be alive after all this time!!!  So we will be replacing any missing ones and putting up others further out of the area. My daughter and I are searching the woods on the opposite side of the road and will be coming into the woods from the new road tomorrow which will bring us out at the style so we will keep our eyes open for you Annabel and Gay and I look forward to meeting Katie.    Take Care Helen xx Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi my name is Helen I am Joyces daughter and I will keep you up to date on Cassie. Cassie was sighted again on Wednesday 8th Oct 7pm in the evening in the woods next to the horses field just down from the RSPCA cattery. Cassie followed a couple from a distance who were walking through the woods as they crossed the stile they noticed the poster and rang us.  We went into the woods to search for her unfortunately it was very dark.  We could hear her running through the ferns but the forest is so dense.  Since then we have been searching the area every day and returning around the same time in the evening and leaving food for her in the hope that she will atleast get something to eat.  I am hoping to put an ad in the local paper this weekend and we will be putting up posters further afield.  As Annabel so rightly said we have to rely on Cassie coming out and trusting someone enough to let them approach her or for her to go to them.  I also think Pam is spot on that Cassie has found somewhere thats quiet and is hiding out most of the day and maybe coming out in the evening. We are having new upto date posters printed off this weekend and will try to get them out as far afield as possible. We have handed posters out at Deerness shelter. Thanks again for all of your help and support and will let you know anything new as soon as I know. Helen xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

yes the wardens have been informed, and all of the local vets, shes registered with petlog so they are actively looking for her and the police were informed. It was very quiet today, we have been up all day too and putting up more posters.  Yesterday we were knocking on doors and talking to people.  Cassie is microchipped even if her tag does come off and there are so many people aware that she is missing.   Unfortunately she is terrified of squeaky toys she doesn't like any shrill or sudden noises and after all of the activity on the fells this weekend my biggest worry is that she has gone further afield.   She must be so hungry now and I am hoping this will coax her out of wherever she is.  Thanks again for all of your help.      Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Just a quick update.  No sightings since Saturday afternoon. However, the area was extremely busy on Sunday we even had the red arrows fly over believe it or not! We have spent the last two days from 6.30am until 8pm camped out at the fells and what we have found is theres a lot of activity once it has become dark with cars racing in the area and gangs hanging out.  We are now worried that she has left the area as the constant noise will frighten her.  However, we are leaving food and scented items in the hope that this will draw her out.  I have contacted all of the locals vets who now have all of our details.  Thank you hello janey for helping with the search.  i cannot believe how kind and supportive people are being and I would like to thank each and everyone  for trying to help us bring our Cassie home.       Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

SO pleased to see that Cassie has been SIGHTED !! As it was in the area she went missing in PLEASE do keep going back to the area. When dogs hide they often dont come out unitl later in the day or early morning. Try and keep leaving your scent in the area and also maybe a worn item of your clothing such as a sock. Also try leaving a source of food for her so she stays around the area. something smelly and enticing like sardines may encourage her to stick around there. make sure there are plenty posters up so as much of the walking public is aware of her as possible. Worlass thankyou for the help and encouragement you are giving Cassey's owner. Good luck and I am keeping everything crossed she is home with you very soon xx PamLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks Gay there are posters all over waldridge fells now and out lying areas.   Our contact numbers are 0191 3894782 and mobile 07960 678323. We have had a sighting today at 5.30pm, I was on the fells when I took the call unfortunately the 3 mins it took me to reach the area she had gone into hiding.  So she is obviously returning to the last place she was before going missing. Thanks for the advice Pam we have spent all day retracing our steps to leave a scent for her to follow, and we will visit the kennels to make sure she isn't missed if she is picked up by the warden.  Atleast we know the posters are working and people are being very kind and supportive so fingers crossed we will have her back home soon.      Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Joyce I am so sorry to see that Cassie is missing. Thankyou for registering her on our website and we will do all we can to help you find her. It is vital that you contact any dog wardens covering the area she went missing in and also check with ALL stray kennels used locally. You still need to check with them regularly as although Cassie is chipped they can  sometimes be missed. By law stray kennels only have to keep a dog for 7 days before they can rehome them or send them on to a rescue so if possible try and go in  person to check she is'nt there. Poster as much as you can both in the area she went missing in and further afield.Try and return and walk in the area you lost her in and leave something with your scent on in case she is hiding up in the area. You can print a poster up directly from our site by clicking on DOG POSTER directly above Cassies information.  hope you have some news of Cassie very soon xx PamLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
