what fantastic news! Power to the chip, so glad to see Mavis home. She one of the dogs missing when I first joined this site and is also in my area, have always kept an eye out for her and her tail. WELL DONE to the vet, wish all vets scanned new patients, ashamed to say my vets is one that doesn't despite my efforts to persuade them to! Enjoy being home MavisLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Well done to that vet (hope they all take a leaf out of his book) for scanning a new dog and finding Mavis was a much loved and missed little dog.  With lots of TLC now back at home I'm sure Mavis will be back to her old self very soon.  Great news!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Brilliant news, would love to have been a fly on the wall when family got the phone call especially with it being 1st April.  Power to the Chip.  Thank you to the vet and everyone who has helped reunite Mavis.  Welcome home and lots of hugs and kisses.  Jan xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Email from owners in Admin - another long term missing dog reunited by her chip - the best ?25 her owners ever spent You may remember that our WHWT bitch Mavis was stolen from our kennel 18 months ago.   I just wanted to tell you that on 1st April 2010 we received a call from a vet in Bristol that she had been handed in to them.  She was identified by her chip.   We collected her straight away and she is now home with us again. She is very thin, her skin is very bad but we are glad to say,  seems otherwise no worse for her ordeal.  She is getting more confident by the day and is eating well.   Thank you for all your efforts in helping us and please pass on our thanks to your co-ordinators.   A massive THANK YOU to that Vet surgery who routinely scan new patients - it really does make a difference.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Was worth the drive to Bath as could of been her.  Never mind we keep hoping that one day soon she will appear. To help everyone, particularly the lovely lady - sorry did not get your name - at Bath this morning, the Westie there was alot taller than Mavis.  I would guess she is about 10.5 inches high.  She has a very hard dense coat (not likely to be at all curly).  She has a very pretty head with a short muzzle.  She is also likely to be shy and will go flat on the ground when picked up (a bit like a floor mop).  The picture we are showing is of her half sister.  We let her coat grow so that maybe, if she was found untrimmed, it would be easier for everyone.  We will re-poster the area in the next week but thank you everyone in the meantime for helping us.  JackyLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Owner is coming to check tomorrow - watch this space, and fingers crossed it is Mavis. Naturally owner doesn't want to get their hopes up after seeing a few dogs that haven't been Mavis, but I really do hope it is a match xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Just had a call from Bath Cats and Dogs Home with a possible match - nothing at all definite - they have a 3yr old Westie girl with a kink in her tail that came in as a stray. Have given them owners number so they can call and arrange to visit. She has done her 7 days, so will be up for rehoming shortly - so fingers crossed they reach the owner, and its Mavis! xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

thank you for your replies, it is nice to know she is not forgotton and you are still looking. I am sorry to hear, me, that you had your westie stolen too. If we can help by letting the Westie show world know and Westie rescue let me know. The picture by the way is of Mavis's sister who was not trimmed following a litter, and we thought it may look more like her now if she has not been trimmed - of course she may be clipped off by now. Thanks for advice.  We will advertise again and see.  we had another attempted break in the other night but our alarms, cctv and other secret defences stopped them!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Please be asured that we are all still looking out for Mavis.  The co ords in the south west are all  aware she is still missing. I would suggest putting ads in the media for her again.  It won't do any harm especially in the area she went missing from.   Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi Jacky we had our Westie stolen too 6 months ago now, on the 19th September, we're still determined she will return home one day, Sophie  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

It is now 5 months since Mavis was taken and still no news but still we do not give up hope.  Has anyone any new ideas on how we can find her?  The poster campaign brought nothing and we keep in touch with all the local rescue centres.  Everyone is taking her details off their records now so I am busy re-newing them. We will not stop looking for her.  Why do vets not routinely check for chips on new patients?  I am amazed that not one I have spoken to would check to see if the chip is registered as stolen, that is if they even check for a chip.  National campaign needed I think! It has all gone very quiet.  Will put more posters out next week.  Still advertising in County Gazette and mention in Dog World this week too.  Any other ideas anyone?  With awful weather hope she is not outside somewhere.  Please keep looking for us JackyLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Good to see you are registered on here and can update us with your progress.  Is there anything which we can do to help you with the Blackbrook enquiries???Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thank you everyone who is helping to look for our girl Mavis.  We have had a couple of leads in the Blackbrook area of Taunton in the last week.  Sadly both came to nothing.  More posters going out all the time and Westie people all aware.  It is going in the newspaper Dog World this week in the Westie breed notes.  Still advert in the Gazette locally every week

Lynn do we have any circumstances of the theft?  Any chance of owner sending in a photo?  I have a friend who runs a dog raining club is Fivehead and who is very proactive, so a photo for posters would really help.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
