- Well said Jayne most of these kennels will never let breed rescues help. Plus theres so many dogs going missing when owners away. It should be made law for all dogs to be chipped. Such a very sad story. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- Spoke to the RSPCA today. They rang the number on the ID tag on 14th and were told by whoever answered they did not own Sal. I've sent an email to owner of Sal to ask if they recognise the number. Home from work too late tonight to ring owner or try the telephone number myself. Halewood cover a large part of Merseyside and take in dogs for Liverpool, Knowsley, Halton and Sefton. They are always full especially with a lot of staffie and staffie crosses, I've seen dogs in there in the rehoming kennels that have been there for a few months. It is so sad what has happened to Sal and there is a lot of 'if only this was done or that was done'. How many times do we promote the CHIP and details must be up to date, if anyone else is looking after a dog it is also important that a temporary tag is worn at all times. - If only they would contact breed rescues who do a wonderful job and protect the dogs..give the dogs a chance! If the people with the budget cant help let the independent unpaid rescues have a chance they would never put a dog to sleep. So everyone who has cancelled their subscriptions to the RSPCA please think about helping Westie rescue instead as every penny will be well spent and they would never have let this happen.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- How can the RSPCA do this? this is just SO cruel - isnt it time they got their act together and actually thought about contacting Doglost when they get a dog in? it only takes seconds to search the dogs lost and see if the one they have matches - they could even post it as found ... they lost my support years ago and this proves I was right .... run free at the bridge little one - you just dont deserve to be there yet ....Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- I'm so sorry to read about Sal. I phoned the RSPCA to cancel my standing order as I find this so hypocritical. The lady I spoke to was very nice and was going to find out why this should have happened. I know it's too late for Sal but maybe by highlighting this situation, they will review their 7 day policy. Not everyone knows who to contact when an animal goes missing which is why it's so important that there is one central register. The wonderful helpers of Doglost do an amazing job of cross checking the missing/found and it has brought lots of happy endings. God bless you Sal and my thoughts are with your family xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- What a sad ending. Porr little Sal. As a vet, I have to say I find the RSPCA's name laughable and the things on which they spend most of their donations an insult to the people who donate. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- This is so sad, all the donations the RSPCA get from animal lovers yet they do not even attempt to rehome a lovely little dog like this, and give her a chance, too many endings like this. Thoughts are with the owners, keep the memories close, just so sad, words are not enough for this loss. X Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- Spoken to owner now who has just returned from Honeymoon yesterday, sadly Sal has gone through the system in Halewood RSPCA and been PTS after the 7 days. Sal was being looked after by a family member and went missing on 12th, she was picked up on the 13th in the area she went missing and PTS on 20th. Possibly due to her skin condition the RSPCA said they could not rehome her. When Sal went missing the relative contacted the PDSA and Police but did not know to contact the RSPCA or DW. They did not inform owner until they returned as did not want to ruin their Honeymoon. This is so sad if only she had been put on DL earlier I would have contacted and visited the RSPCA myself to see if she was there. Deepest thoughts are with Sal?s family, Run free at the Bridge Sal and sweet dreams. Jan x Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- Will try and contact owner for further details. I seen a Westie in Halewood RSPCA yesterday, do not know the details, have just tried to speak to Halewood but it is engaged, will not be able to ring back as in work at the moment. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
