Looking back on what can only be described as a mad few days I cant help but remember the feeling of renewed hope the Monday morning, Dont know why but it just seemed like the right time for Bramble to be caught. With the trap turning up everythng seemed to be coming together. Brambles owners might be interested reading the thread on the hound lounge http://thehoundlounge.proboards105.com/index.cgi?board=talk&action=display&thread=3932&page=1 Once again Doglost was invaluable for keeping everyone updated and focused - Love to Bramble xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

We picked our boy up yesterday, oblivious to what had happened, as we were away on holiday. Can we first give our heart-felt thanks to all those we gave their help and support in the search for Bramble. It goes to show that sometimes there are happy endings! We are amazed and so grateful for the time and effort people put in, we cannot thank you enough. Special thanks must go to Dawn and husband Dominic, we realise how upset they were that Bramble escaped whilst in their care. They were tireless in their pursuit of Bramble and they clearly enthused others to give their time as well in the search, no-one could have done more. So between the gun-sights of a gamekeeper and the traffic on the A421, Bramble has been a lucky boy to escape with some cuts and bruises, the vet says nothing too serious, remarkable really. He has been relaxing in his bed, barking at the postman this morning, still tired but on the whole pretty much his usual self, just 5kg lighter! Once again thank you all so much, we remain so grateful and thankful to bring home our much loved Bramble. If only he could tell us of his escapades! If Dawn would ever have him back again we would not hesitate to leave Bramble in her care. No one could have anticipated that he would push open a window and climb out in the pursuit of a cat! The 'Houdini Hound' is back safe and sound! THANK YOU!                Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Oh! what a lovely reunited photo - thanks for sharing that with us. He really suits pink! I'm just so happy for everyone who rallied round and helped to get this lovely lad back home. Is that his welcome home present he's cuddling up to (my Milly managed to 'de-honk' hers in a very short space of time)? Bless him...x

keep looking at bramble.........can't really believe he's here. set up autograph signing for tomorrow afternoon as he has a massive fan base now...........he's busy working on the handwriting now. marley has donated his bed while brambles dries out in the tumble drier..........it spent some time in the woods!. his head is up and ears are forward again.............listening to fudge snoring. this website and the people who run it along with all the people who just rang up and offered there help are amazing and if anybody needs our help and we can get there we'll be there in a flash. if we hadn't got bramble back today he would have gone back to the woods i'm sure and he surely would have got stuck in the trap which would have course been briliant but this was a much calmer capture....... i don't want to dramatise this but it really was very dramatic!! we went and checked the trap around 3pm and there was no sign of bramble or any evidence he had been there.......we hung some cooked sausages on the hook in the trap and sprayed some more scent around......then we drove about looking........we got a call from crystal about 10 minutes later and she told me she was looking straight at him. i had just droped her dog back to her about 30 mins earlier just before checking the trap as she lives nearby. anyway we got there in about 7 minutes and we sent marcus (our youngest0 in front as he is the smallest and we told him it wasn't important to catch bramble but if he could hold his collar tight that would be good............well before we got round to where he was standing crystal said she had him...........had to see it to believe it though!!!!!!! got him into the car phoned vets and a thousand other sobbing people 22.7kg on the vets scales........... must be my lottery numbers this week vet has given him anti botics for one week as he has sores on his tummy.he also has a lot of superficial wounds and grazes all over...consistent with being dragged through a hedge backwards or rather charging through hedges at 40 mph. he ate lots of cocktail sausages in the car and at the vets, then at home he had a long drink about 150g of james wellbelloved and settled  down for a sleep..........another long drink and now he's busy cleaning himself up. if i have missed anyone out and forgotten to phone or text them i'm sorry..........i kept writng numbers down and then the phone would ring again and again and sometimes i just forgot whose number i ahd just taken. i think that's it.......... i hope to meet all of you in the fields one day in much nicer circumstances.   the VVVVVVV HAPPY end  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I am over the moon that Bramble is home, when Dawn called this afternoon it was the best news ever and great to see that he has passed the vet check. These guys worked tirelessly to get Bramble home safe and it paid off, Most of Bedfordshire has been postered everyone knew about this boy and the team of people looking for him would put most of British Industry to shame with the work rate and response time! To everyone who helped pull this one off - a massive thank you.  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Searched Berry Woods this morning, these are ok to go in, Met up with Mark and we searched around derilect farmhouse and garages but no sign of a dog having been there, loads of dead rabbits on the floor though - he would have access to food with no need to hunt in these woods. Spoke to Dawn, the trap is coming later today so really hoping that Martin can work his magic, will try to get back later.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Do you have a local wildlife rescue centre as they often have large traps. The local police should have a wildlife liason officer who may be able to track one down for you. They should also be able to tell you who the local RSPCA officer is. They are much more helpful than the regional call centre.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

have had call to say bramble at wootton green hoo lane in field opp.....pottered off towards upper shelton/lower shelton (where he escaped from). been out in field spraying his scent and calling him for ages....with little lantern for light. phoned game keeper to arrange time to take trap or bed etc..... after 8.30am and only myself aloud to check on crate during the day......please respect this as i am very worried about him moving the goal post. he also said that he has phoned his boss and he said we can leave the trap/bed etc... there until wednesday but we must move it by 3pm. they are having a shoot on thursday so there will be lots of dogs and guns. we have a little more time now and i feel a little more positive again. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

i don't know where to start..... okay bramble was seen in wootton wood (behind wootton upper school) the game keeper phoned and we all went there dominic saw him......he was only a few feet from him but he shot off into the woods again......it is definately bramble without a doubt!!!!! PLEASE.... NOBODY MUST ENTER THE WOODS!!!!!!! the game keeper has said if we go in the woods without him he will shoot bramble. bramble has supposedly killed a deer and 2 pheasants.......the game keeper has my number and i have his it was agreed that we could set a trap up tomorrow morning in a designated spot to see if we can catch him I NEED A TRAP DESPERATELY IF ANYONE KNOWS OF WHERE TO GET ONE PLEASE GET IT. i have phoned and texted the dog warden (coral) mid beds on her private mobile number.......not heard back yet but only a little while ago anyway. the game keeper will only allow myself and the dog warden to go into the wood to set the trap...........and only when accompanied by him!!!!. i can understand his position and i really don't want to get his back up. he told me direct that he will shoot bramble if we don't catch him tomorrow.............i do think he means it.he doesn't want to do it but says he will. i pleaded with him to shoot him in the leg if he has to shoot at all........i don't hold out much hope on that one. if we are left with no trap in the morning we are going to put a large cage in the wood with brambles bed and food in.........we will put some sedative in the food and if we are lucky enough to tempt bramble to eat it then he won't be getting up out of his bed for 2 or 3 hours at least. this is not ideal i know but i feel left with no other choices. we will scent the area too from his bed outwards as i did here today...we have done it here again tonight but i am not hopeful he will come here now. everybody got to wootton woods so quickly..............i never knew we had so many good good friends.thankyou everybody. tried rspca for trap..not heard anything yet......i won't hold my breathe! i will watch this space all night for ideas..........they are very much needed Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

seem to be missing a post so i have done it again last seen A421 between little chef roundabout and brogborough landfill site.......he was heading towards M1 on grass verge on the lake side opp landfill.so could have gone to lidlington....ridgemont...aspley guise...woburn..woburn sands... but he could be anywhere by now so just keep hoping we get another sighting soon. please can the dog wardens get involved now as he is going to have an almighty accident if he was a cat his lives would be all gone..........it's a good job he's a lurcher. i have had a call from someone who saw him at kempston rugby club he was bleeding and wouldn't come to them.......they phoned dog warden and rspca but neither would come out to him..........this was last week!!! thank goodness someone has seen him since then.   Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

sat 1st nov searched old brickworks behind manor road kempston hardwick no sign of bramble but disused toilet warm and dry with door open.put posters up in case homeless using it...left frankfurters on heater brambles head height. checked interchange retail park end of railway line....got sighting phone call so went back to kempston hardwick. bramble crossed road in front of moathouse (where i left bed last night) and entered the fields opposite........we got there in 3 mins but there was no sign of him...........so disapointing and frustrating....we walked about for may an hour or more then i asked a passing police car if they had seen him.......... they had a call on the radio about 20 mins prior to say a dog fitting his description was on the A421 between stewartby and marston. everyone searching went to different points in this area and the country millenium park......another person called me to say they had seen him heading towards marston on A421 so i drove up and down but no sign.........some searchers went to lidlington in case he followed the train line and some to millbrook. put more posters in lay by before little chef roundabout and went into petrol station with more posters.......they have them at the till. went to playing fields in marston which back onto A421 football match going on so gave out posters. went to disused toilets on old brickwork site tonight about 6.30pm to see if he was there took lantern as very!!! dark but no sign of him. we have placed brambles bed in our shed with bowl of food tonight the gate from our garden out into the fields is open and will stay open all night in case he wanders back in. you are all doing such a wonderful job i can't believe how much support i am getting from all of you...........thankyou. tomorow we will sit outside moathouse in kempston hardwick and wait to see if bramble does what he did the last two days.........and walk right past........ marston will be a good place to look tomorrow and lidlington lower and upper shelton and possibly wood end off the A421 as he can get there over the bridge from denton drive marston. train stations between bedford and ridgemont have been postered now.....tomorrow ridgemont to bletchley will be done...  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi Greylady, I really hope that he is not trying to make his own way home as it would involve him going along the M1 J13-14 but he is heading along the A421 towards the motorway  so this could be a possibility. Prior to today he had stayed in a realtivley close area to his holiday home but the 'triangle' was in the other direction. Today seems to have been a big shift. I have drawn a blank with the dog wardens local to here, MK will help on monday if he has crossed the Cranfield Road but the out of hour people are based in Northampton and do not help capture just collect!  I am going to have to have a look on  my way home tonight - I am so worried about this boy - the A421  is such a busy road in it's own right. I will be in a meeting from 4.30 - 6.30 and unable to take calls or email but will check in immediatly after to seen if there is any news.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I don't know the local area Angus as I'm a long way away, but could the route Bramble is taking mean he is heading towards home?  Sometimes dog can instinctively find their way back, does it look like he is doing this?  Obviously I don't know how far it is between his carers house and his owners house though!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi, there is no out of hours dogwarden for south Beds, just been trying on that one, I think that Martyn is close-ish to here but I don't know how to contact him if someone can get some details I will call. Bramble is moving all the time though - Not sure how effective a trap is at this point - any sugesstions? my no 07515884675 I'm stuck at work till 8 tonight. Have just spoken to Milton Keynes Dog warden service (he's not in their area yet but coming this way)- they will not help to capture on an out of hours call only collect, which is no help at this point as if we can get him, its his carer's on his tail.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

MERYMUT CHER did you call the owners and offer your feet and eyes - I am sure that they would appricate the offer if they are near enough to collect you - they are working so very hard to get Bramble back , I'm working all weekend so cannot help in the search but will keep checking back in to see any updates.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

anyone wanting to help look for bramble this weekend and doesn't know where i am refering to. on entering the interchange retail park kempston there is a roundabout go straight over and round the back of tkmaxx etc into the delivery area drive right to the end and there is a very tall aerial mast you can park several cars here without obstucting not sure if they close gates to this area at a certain time.this is the train line i am refering to and if you walk away from the retaill park follow the track it goes under the A421 and out towards kempston hardwick and stewartby. i hope that is clear enough for everyone thanks Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

5.40pm fri 31st oct at about 1pm there were several sightings of bramble today in kempston hardwick... he ran down the road past the cement place and past a house called MOATHOUSE debbie the owner of the house said that her neighbour had heard a disturbance when his dogs were in the garden early in the morning.debbie feeds feral cats and leaves food out all night for them....we think he may be staying in this area and eating this food. i have left his bed there tonight outside next to the food, and debbie will keep an eye out for him. we searched the land between kempston hardwick and the interchange park.......the railway line runs under the a421..........it is not a busy line but obviously not a great place for bramble to be. is there anyone who can poster up the train staions on this line between bedford and bletchley as i think he could be folowing the track . the burger vans are a great idea i have done some of them today. also postered behind interchange retail as the train line runs behind the delivery bays.......some posters along train track as i did see a few people using this route and some dog walkers. no we don't have a key holder for brambles house....i also had thought there may be a message there but now we have sighted him again i guess right now it wouldn't tell us anything. went round marsh leys industrial park.....spoke to argos woolworths and asda staff...........several had seen bramble and on one occasion he came under the perimeter fence......when he spotted the man he went back under the fence a charged off. we will keep at it and if i forgotten something i will update again later.  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

While I was driving i spotted at least 7/8 burger vans in layby's - these would be a great source of food for a hungry dog, please drop posters in to all you see - many will display by the menu for you.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

is it the holiday inn the other side of the railway line ?if he went thru under the line (thru the tunnel)good place for hiding & near the layby ie ..discarded food  he may scavange if not picked up also the waste tip at wilstead is a good place for hounds chasing gulls etc for food ..sorry can't help ..no transport .. but if anyone willing to field walk & can pick me up i'm willing & able to walk for miles ..xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

just a thought - do you have access to the telephone at Brambles home - just incase someone has picked him up and has left a message on the phone or was he wearing a holiday tag?. I took a drive to Bedford this morning detouring around the route, didn't see anything but now I know where he has escaped from and then been seen if I have any spare time at the weekend will take another look.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I have been talking to all the workers on the A421 between Marston Mortain and the A600 bedford. None seen but will kepp an eye out and have posters with number as have the surveyers working in the fields  between upper and lower shelton. They are there all day. Have also given posters to the managers of KFC, Burger king & Macdonalds and asked if they can put up in the Drive thru's at interchange retail park.   Have also postered some of kempston area where dog walkers go. Spoken to travellers in 2 temp area's but they were moving on but they have the number and know there is a reward.   Come on Bramble - Please Show yourself yLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

If you are going to Dovart Kennels then would be wise to pop to Millbrook Golf Club - just past Dovarts and right then left from the crossroads. Also would be wise to try to speak to the pig farmer who uses the field opposite Dovart Kennels as he has many outside pens which could make good shelter.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
