Very very chuffed to hear this: I'm told Spencer was found wandering tonight in Brompton Farm Road - not far from the Orchards he was lost in - very skinny but well. Well done Claire, will catch up with the entire story with Dean when i see him on site tomorrow - well done to all those who put up posters for Claire - can you get them all down again?! lol Welcome home Spencer!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thank you Sylv much appreciated.  Can anyone help with putting posters up around Chatham, Gillingham and Gravesham, think now need to search further afield.  Lady in Hoo has taken some photocopies and will distribute around Hoo for us.  Chatham, Gillingham & Gravesham need to be the next step. Have put an advert in the Medway News, Standard and Adscene for the next 3 weeks and they have also put it on their website. Dog walking areas are also the next target, Shorne County Park, Rainham, Jeskyns at Cobham etc.  Anyone that can help will be appreciated. Claire   Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Have printed off some posters and will hand some into my daughter at Brompten farm Road as well as carrying in my car. I travel regularily round the parts he went missing. Live in Rochester. There's lots of farmland round that way. You never know he may be tucked up in a barn doing what JRTs love doing, catching things. Be a good idea to speak to the various farmers. love Sylv xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Have been around the park today leaving a scent around so hopefully that may help.  Tried Viking Oak no luck there.  Will be a week tomorrow, new posters have gone up and I will be at the park again tomorrow early trying to speak with people so if anyone has 1 hour to spare would be good. Will be going out again tonight to search again. ClaireLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

The siteings are people who think they have seen him but no-one is completely definite. Going to contact the papers today to put an add in the locals Medway News, Medway Extra etc.  Also going to take up our bedding and sheets we have been sleeping on and scatter around the park hopefully he may pick up the scent. Been out this morning replacing posters around Cliffe Road, Brompton Farm road area of posters that have been ripped down.  Been in contact with Railtrack who have taken my details and someone will contact me.  Council no help whatsoever.  Going over to Viking Oak today to take a look.  Registered with Battersea. Still no news! Please help us if you can. Getting desperate now. Thank youLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hey Claire, if you're getting sightings in Broom Hill Road then I'd definitely say he's trying to find the way home so to avoid him trying the Gravesend Road it really is important to get that scent down to the place you lost him in the Orchards, it's much safer there.  If you need it we have a trap in this area (its in Maidstone at the mo) but we need definite sightings and someone sitting with the trap 24/7 so we do need to work out where he's flitting to and fro from.  Top of Gorse Road gives good cover in the trees by the Orchards and the houses down the track side of Gorse Road that links with Broom Hill Road is very quiet and he'll be able to travel down that without being spotted quite easily - only a few big houses there so worth putting posters through their doors.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks everyone for your emails and support.  Thank you tracey for going out with posters and if you could get out again tomorrow I would so much appreciate it.  Areas that I have not been able to cover are: Wainscott eg: Rolvenden Road, Iden Road and down into the village.  Also Higham and Hollywood Lane. (Perhaps you can let me know which areas you have covered so we do not duplicate).  I will be going back out today around Goddington road, Cliffe road and Brompton Farm road as some posters have been ripped down so need to replace them, also I will be back up Broom Hill replacing the ones around the park.  I have informed Stanhope vets who were great and have put a poster in each window and on their noticeboard as have Medway City (spencer is registered there). Identichip have also been informed so if he is scanned anywhere it will come up he is a missing dog. My cousins husband is a postman so has got all the strood, rochester, frindsbury, higham and wainscott posties lookings on their rounds also friends have told their paperboys to be on the lookout so if everyone else can inform their postmen and paperboys.  Thanks for the tip about the scenting I have informed dean he must pee in a bottle from now on, we will go up tonight in the dark and leave our scent!!!! Please be aware if visiting up there tonight.  We will start where he went missing and go through the orchards and around the footpath between brompton lane and king arthurs drive.  If you can suggest any other areas.  Broom hill road seems to be now where the sightings are coming from however we never seem to see him.  We might scent the top of gorse road.  Police have been out today to RSPCA @ Leyborne to check and also checked again with Jasmill kennells.  Nothing! Cannot put anything on the radio, have contacted the local radio stations, but they do not do it anymore.  Have been in contact with the Medway Extra and will be getting an advert in the paper for next week and phoning Penninsula Times. Again I cannot stress enough, thank you to everyone keeping a look out and for all you are all doing to help me and to help Spencer. Await new messages, thanks again to everyone!! Posters are appearing everywhere!  Fab!  Need a few more down Cliffe Road - I'm concerned at the lack of sightings - means that either he's still in the woods, or he's been taken in and not declared as found... so we need to smoke him out, so to speak.  Claire, I know you've laid down clothing in the Orchards but I'd like you to put down more scent, in case he is there.  Go back to the area you lost him from and (Dean is soo going to love this) and put down yours and his diluted urine in a trail from where he ran off to the clothing.  That way he can smell you're there and he won't move off.   Also try and put the diluted liquid from the bottom of the Orchards at Merryfields back through the Orchards to the clothing.  That way he has a trail always leading back to a safe place.  Now that covers if he's in the woods, but if he's been picked up we need to find someone who might've seen him.  Firstly have you considered adverts in the Medway Messenger and the Chatham Standard.  Both have good local coverage.  There are three schools in the area that spring to mind - see if you can email them a poster or drop one in and put one at the front gates: Temple, Hilltop and English Martyrs - oh and there is a junior school at Temple now isn't there.  Kids see things we don't and notice dogs that are new and we wouldn't really pay attention to.  They also go in and out of Broom Hill on the way to school (in the case of Temple) a lot.  Get those kids looking for you and we'll see if someone saw a dog arrive next door etc that wasn't there before.  Keep it up! xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Tracey you are doing an excellent job, well done. Claire don't you worry about Spencer being on his own take a look at Jake JRT ID 15,598 (I emailed you the link to his page last night) he is 12 years old, totally blind and survived for 6 days and he was recently reunited with his family.  Keeping fingers crossed your boy will also be back home soon.  Jan xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Mr Bojangle
forgot to say i was stopped by a lady when i was putting up a poster in Broomhill she said she had seen the posters and was going to have a look for him whenever she walks her dogs so people are taking notice of the posters that's a good sighn! felt very naughty walking through the trees shouting spencer probably looked a bit odd as well!! we was forbidden to go there as children by my mum ,she said the tree's were full of dirty old men ! so please everyone dont tell her i've been up there or i will definately be grounded !!! lol traceyLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

thanks Tracey - just got back from driving right round the roads at the back of the Orchards and nothing there :(  Lots of posters visible so that's great - suggest more down towards the town?  Sorry had none on me as I was working (cough, cough).  Claire - Viking Oak DO take in dogs from Strood - keep calling them.  This is especially important if someone from Higham or Shorne area picks him up as he WILL go to Viking Oak - can you get anyone to drive over there and go round their stray kennels just to check?    Local vets are Stanhope in Stanhope Road and Medway City on the Estate, make sure they are aware.  Don't worry that he's out on his own, all dogs on the loose revert to natural behaviour and he's a JR - he'll be able to catch rats/mice no problem.  The 7am sighting is encouraging - if he's still lurking in the Orchards then dawn and dusk are the times he'll come out to look for food.  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Had a report of some young girl who thought they saw a little white dog at broom hill road yesterday 18/11 at around 7am but little girl could not be sure.  Looked all last night, nothing and been around the broom hill park, peps way and broom hill road this morning nothing. Phoned Jasmill kennels again, nothing brought in and Viking Oak have told me they do not deal with the medway area and no-one has even taken any details.  Cannot get through to the RSPCA in Chatham just keeps going onto answering machine so going over today and also RSPCA in Leybourne.  Friend has spoken with people in Cliffe Woods area so on the look out over there.  Gravesend Police and Council have had nothing. Please can everyone keep the look out for him, he will be scared as he has never been on his own longer than 1 hour if he is out and about.  Please keep looking around Frindsbury, Strood area and any other areas people can think of.  Any other suggestions anyone has and can do for us is grately appreciated. Thanks so much for being so Kind everyone, we just want him back home safe and sound. ClaireLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks Tracey :) If he has been seen in the Frindsbury area then I reckon he's gone (not sure if you know Broom Hill) through the area known as the Orchards, through the new housing estate where the allotments used to be and down that way - sort of off Cliffe Road area?  Alternatively, he's gone down the side of the the Orchards and down Brompton Lane but that's longer and doesn't make sense with the Everest Lane sighting.  I reckon however if posters are concentrated on Cooling Road and Cliffe Road areas, leading towards Broom Hill then there's a good chance if he's been seen, someone will see the posters.  He lives off Rede Court area so if he's going to try to get home there are some major roads - Claire - we need to try and get him back to Broom Hill if poss - I understand you've left clothing at the woods but we may need to get you to scent more but i'll explain that if we get another sighting.  Have emailed poster to all those in the Broom Hill area i know too.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Claire - it's Daryl's sister Dee here - Helen next door to you texted my sis yesterday to say Spencer was missing - I'll do what I can to help - will print off posters at work tomorrow and get some up - last I heard he was seen in Frindsbury at Everest Lane - is that still the latest sighting?  I'm pretty sure if he hasn't been picked up (you have checked with Medway police station haven't you?) that he'll be trying to get home - but we need sightings: so lots and lots of posters.  Dean has my phone number (or if he doesn't Phil does at the office, and my email too) if you need me.  Dee xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Spoken to Claire to clarify the mobile numbers to go on the poster.  They are doing a brilliant job and been postering the area he went missing.  Have given some advice, Chip Co has not been contacted yet but they will do a.s.a.p.  Will send some further advice and SCENTING/MAPPING instructions, if any sightings advised they mark them on a map.  Hopefully he has been picked up and as soon as the posters working they will get the call we all want.  Great that he is CHIPPED.  Good luck.  Jan xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
