Well, that really is a case of good luck that Sid is home. It could have gone the other way so easily, like so many other dogs who never find their way back to their bereft owners. Welcome home boy. xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

We have amazing news! Sidney is found and is safely home - thank you all so much for helping us. The story is a heart warming one, basically a very kind man took Sid into his lorry as he had managed to find his way onto a busy main road in the fog. He immediately pulled into a layby where there was a policecar, however, the policeman refused to help in anyway whatsoever. Luckily this man was a dog lover and he wasn't sure what to do but did have an animal sanctuary close to where he lived in Haverhill (Jaybeth Animal Sanctuary). Unbeknown to us at the time they did a fantastic job of caring for Sid. Meanwhile we were putting posters everywhere we could think of. Someone had been asked to photo Sid as they were going to put up their own posters close to where he was found, the person they spoke to had seen my poster and put two & two together and then they called me. We really thought we were never going to see him again as there had been no sitings of him whatsoever - in our case of course he had been safely looked after right from word go. For anyone else that is going through the nightmare we have just been through, never give up hope and get posters up absolutely everywhere - it works!! We had a hopeless response from police & don't even get me started on the 'local' dog warden service, but people, people are fantastic & very willing to help. Thanks in particular to Yasa, who gave me real hope and the drive to carry on with many other things to do - Sidney says, he enjoyed his time on hols but is quite content to be back home now thank you very much!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Have called owners and given advice. They are doing an absolutely  fantastic job of getting the word out there, and hopefully we will get a sighting reported soon. Sid has run off after an animal, and probably lost his bearings, and unfortunately it is a massive area to cover so if there are any helpers at all in the area willing to help search or to poster, it would be very much appreciated. Sid is very dearly loved  and he needs to be home now. Scenting advice has been given. Stay safe Sid, until we get you home boy x  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

So sorry to see that Sid is missing. Firstly inform the Dog warden (if this has not already been done), who you will be able to contact at your council office (not open at the weekend). They will also tell you where stray dogs are taken to. Contact the rescue kennels and give them a poster of your dog.  By law, kennels have the right to re-home a dog if it is not claimed by 7 days, so PLEASE CALL them EVERY DAY. Posters can be downloaded if you click on POSTER 1 on his Doglost page after logging in. Posters (In plastic folders) need to be put up in the area where he went missing, or where there have been sightings, if any - on lamp posts, entrances to parks and strategic places in the area where he went missing,  like at the start and finish of tracks and paths in parks, dog bins, at vets, pet shops, garages, pubs, carry-out food shops, post offices,  local shops who often allow postcards in the window, supermarkets who have notice boards, community centres, youth clubs, schools etc. You can ask the postman, milkman, taxi drivers, street cleaners, bin men (even put poster on bins), to take some flyers and hand them out on their rounds. You can ask school bus drivers and kids on the bus, or if you have kids on the bus, get them to hand out flyers at school.  Deliver flyers to houses, businesses & pop through letterboxes. Hand out flyers to people in the street, especially dog walkers. Put posters or flyers in car windows. Local rescue centres and kennels, also police offices need checking regularly and preferably visited in person, by owner or someone who knows your dog, because it's breed may not be recognised by other people. Get some media coverage if you can, by asking the local radio station to broadcast your dog as missing and put an ad in the local newspaper with a picture of him or her. It is important to get posters out there and seen by as many people as possible. Good luck. Hope your pet  is found very soon.   Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
