- Thanks for your email Dawn with the FANTASTIC news!! Welcome home Biff! She'd obviously had enough of her adventure and thought best to give herself up and get back to her home comforts!! Hope she is well and none the worse for her time out loose. Well done to you and your husband and others for all your hard work and following the advice given....it all paid off and you got the result that everyone had been wishing and waiting for. Really pleased for you Dawn, enjoy your reunion when you get home (bet it will feel like the slowest car/train ride ever!). It would be lovely for us all to see a reunited photo - if you email one to me when you get the chance I will put on site for you. Yippppeeeee!!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- I can't quite believe what I am writing but we have found her and as I write she is now back at home!!! We had a sighting this morning and my husband went along with a friend to check the area and as they were walking along talking between themselves Biff just ran up to them! Many, many thanks for all your kind comments, advice and support over the last few days. DawnLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- okay, there were 3 more sightings of Biff yesterday. 12.30pm, 2.30pm and about 4pm. All were around Colne Valley Golf Course (kind of in the valley between Colne Engaine/White Colne/Earls Colne). I am not sure if we are getting more sightings of her during the day because she has moved to a more populated area or if her pattern of behaviour has changed. We have stopped the scenting that we were doing around the other area as she does seem to have completely moved; albeit only a couple of miles, and we are now marking all the various new sightings on a map and trying to figure out her movements and will then either try to find her 'safe' place or will pick one ourselves and then try scenting to it from all the places she has been seen. Many thanks for all your encouraging posts.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- Yes, Bess 'n' Barney's Mum, that was such sound and timely advice from Teddy's Mum and it certainly worked a treat for Esme. I will always remember that tip from now on (thank you Teddy's Mum!). Come on beautiful Biff, show yourself again cos we need to see you in the Blue!

- I was also going to mention Esme the Bernese Mountain Dog but I couldn't remember her name. That was good sound advice from Millys Mum about the whimpering trick, originally from Teddy's Mum, which really does seem to work, it's worth looking at Esme's page. Come on Biff, give yourself up now, it's so much better at home in the warm.
Millys Mum, I also thought of the NZ Huntaway when I saw Biff's photo - my girl Bess has a Huntaway Dad who looks very like Biff. Fabulous dogs who will "go" all day - I'm sure you know! Bess has a collie Mum so we have it in abundance!

- There is a helper who can lend you a humane trap if you can get to Ipswich to pick it up and you have someone to man it. The people at the Golf Club may be willing to check it during the day. Traps do work - you will need advice re how to set and use. Call me 07788 885082 if we can help. Good luck. xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- no sightings today yet but one Tues afternoon at Colne Valley Golf course. Apparently she looked like she was limping on her right paw so perhaps that will slow her down for a while! She seems to be constantly on the move at the moment.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- The reunited Bernese Mountain Dog who came to her whimpering owner was called Esme (not Tess), who went missing from Henfield, West Sussex.

- DawnTW, It's good that you are still getting sightings of Biff and I hope it won't be long until she is back home with you. If you, your husband or a family member gets close to Biff but think that she might run from you, remember no eye contact or sudden moves. Just drop to the ground and make whimpering noises. A dog (I might be wrong but I seem to recall her name was Tess and she was a Bernese Mountain Dog) was reunited this way quite recently. She had become more nervous than normal and so the owner tried this tactic and it worked. Most dogs wouldn't be able to resist coming to investigate what their nutty owners are up to! By the way, she is very beautiful - she looks so very similar to our NZ Huntaway dog. Fingers crossed 'this end'.

- another sighting Monday morning at 8am at Countess Cross and one today at 7am. This morning she was actually seen by my husband about 10-15 feet away so we are sure it is her. She was sighted this morning at Overhall.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- sightings over the weekend around sun up both days - sightings all in similar area. However, this morning have had 2 people call in to report seeing her in a different area - am not sure if it was her but if so then it would appear that she has either expanded her area or moved. Just in case anyone from the area is reading this; the area that she was seen in over the weekend is the area between Garland's Farm, Fish Pitts and Montague Farm. This is kind of between Countess Cross, Pebmarsh and Bures. This morning she may have been spotted at Overhall which is on the way to Colne Engaine.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- Great that you've had another sighting Dawn. How close was this sighting from the original area and first sighting? It would be worth you getting yourself an ordanance survey map and plotting the sightings of Biff on that. As I said to you on email, dogs out loose will often travel in a triangular pattern. Keeping a record and plotting the sightings will allow you to see the area she is moving in and then we can look towards introducing scenting etc. It will also help you know which areas to poster. - Sighting of Biff at 7am in nearby area to that missing from. Have advised on scenting etc. Hoping to get some more sightings come in. Dawn has now uploading photos, we may possibly change breed to Cross Breed incase any searching wouldn't think of a Doberman Cross.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- Many thanks for your kind and helpful comments/tips. I have now uploaded a photo of Biff so you can see what she looks like. She is a Doberman/Staffordshire cross standing about 2 feet tall. She is friendly and sociable but probably very scared at the moment. We have put up posters in shops/pubs etc yesterday and some through local houses and are continuing that today as well as searching the area still. She was apparently spotted this morning at 7am by a couple out horse riding but ran from the horses. The area she was spotted in is only 10-15 mins walk from where she went missing from so it looks as though she has not gone far as yet. She was spotted by the fishing lakes that are just off the Pebmarsh Road in Countess Cross in the Colne Valley just east of Colne Engaine.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- Hi Dawn, sorry to see Biff is missing. Do you have a photo of Biff you can upload or email to admin@doglost.co.uk?
If you have not already done so, please ensure you contact your local council's dog warden and that of neighbouring councils, notify the microchip company (and check all the contact details they have for you are correct), local vets and kennels. Also make sure you ring Westend Farm Kennels on 01449 737641 as they take strays from Colchester. Please ensure they take all the details and if at all possible for you to visit this kennels in person that would be very much advised.
I presume you have searched the area Biff went missing it - it would be a good idea to leave an article of clothing/towel etc with yours/Biffs smell on in this area. Then you need to poster poster poster! Poster the local area, anywhere people go e.g. shops, pubs, petrol stations, stables, farms etc. Also put posters/flyers through any houses that border the area Biff is missing in.
Posters can be printed off from Doglost. When you are logged in, at the top of Biffs page just above where all her Dog Information starts, there is 'Dog Poster 1'. Click this link and her poster will open. Of course the poster will be far better and more effective once we have a photo uploaded. Good Luck and hoping Biff is home very soon. xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18 - 2008-12-02 17:26 Yasa
- pontsian it would be great if you could help. Have just looked on the map and its by Colne Engaine, Colchester, and is just east of Halstead and just north of Earls Colne. Hope that pin points it for you. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- Hi Dawn, sorry to see that your boy has gone missing. I have just moved from C01 (colchester) and have plenty of friends & family still living there and surrounding areas. I am sure once i inform they will be willing to help but where is Countess Cross? I have never heard of it! Is this out at Coggeshall or Earls Colne? Good luck with your search Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
