Have just spoken to Duff's family.  We are so sorry you have lost your little Duff in this way and will never really know what happened to him.  But at least you do have closure and can hopefully move on with happy memories of his young and happy life with you.  You have been so good keeping everyone informed on DL and a wonderful example to all those who have lost their dogs. Dear little Duff, rest in peace now ~ we and all the Scottie people will always remember you.  xxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

DUFF found DEAD My friend came round this am-she noticed him when riding this morning.Found very close to where I had lost him in an area that both she & I had searched  many times before & she had ridden over several times.Sadly there was only half of him-I identified him by his tail.We think he has been dragged by a fox/badger from wherever he was.Mystery as to where rest of him is... Much rather KNOW that he is dead was always looking for him wherever we went.Poor Duff - I let him down by not looking after him properly .What a superb puppy he was & what great days we had. My daughter & I off to take the mass of posters down. Thank you all so much for your advice & support-so apppreciated by this sad family. We re so grateful to you all.  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Duff wil have grown quite a bit in a month and broadens out as well. Dog grroming parlours is a good place to poster especially with a trimmed breed. Also try the vets and pet shops again. Don't give up he is out there somewhereLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Owner don't forget to put posters in all dog grooming and pet shops.Petrol stations, community centres & tsake aways are also good places to poster so lots of people see them. Don't forget to keep regularly phoning the DW's and rescue centres too.

Scottie lover - sorry to hear there is still no news on Duff's whereabouts.  Please do keep positive - read 2 reunited stories on this site dated 4 Jan 09 - ID No 15915 - Jedd, the Lurcher and ID No 14714 - Eve, the Terrier Staffordshire Bull.  These are just 2 happy endings which prove you should never give up hope.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Scottie lover - have also noticed that there are railway lines in your area.  Have you postered around the station, and also spoken to someone in authority there who could speak with train drivers to ask them to keep their eyes open, and also any railway contractors who may be working along the line?  The land adjoining railway lines is not only a good food source for dogs, but can also be very dangerous for our much-loved companions.  Have you also checked with your local Highways Agency to see if "a body" has been recovered recently.  As difficult as these things may be to do, you must be strong and do it (or get someone close to you to help you do it) for your own sake.  The "not knowing what happened" is always the hardest thing to bear.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
Badger
Scottie lover - how far out from the area Duff went missing from have you postered and contacted vets, re-homing centres, dog wardens etc?  Perhaps it is time to widen your search even further as lost dogs do get picked up by people living much further away.  Have you also thought of letting the breeder you got Duff from know what has happened?  Reputable breeders usually maintain an interest in any puppies they have bred, so they may also be able to help you with advice, etc.  Also do you still keep checking the parkland and large water areas nearby (looks to be lots of water on Google Earth around Gunton Hall).  Please keep us posted as to what is being done.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Scottie lover - As you replace old posters with new updated ones, may be a good idea to also write on them "STILL MISSING".  So hoping the offer of a reward brings news of dear little Duff's whereabouts.  Keep strong - lots of Scottie lovers are willing Duff home.   Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Scottie lover - so sorry you still have no news on little Duff's whereabouts.  Maybe the offer of "a reward for Duff's safe return" would bring information as to his whereabouts.  Stay strong and positive, and keep going over "old ground" with fresh posters, vets, grooming parlours, dog wardens, re-homing centres, local papers, radio stations, traveller's sites etc.  It maybe that if someone took Duff for a Christmas present, they may start walking him now, and he could be noticed.  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Scottie lover - As it is one week since dear little Duff went missing please contact all your rescue centres again (preferably by going in person, as sometimes dogs get overlooked when the staff are busy, and they may not contact you) as after 7 days Duff could legally be re-homed by them.  Also check, on a daily basis at least, the private land/lake area in case posters make Duff "too hot to handle" and he gets "dumped" back where he was possibly found.  So hope you get good news very soon.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Scottie lover - Do you have any "travellers sites" in your area?  If you have do not go alone - most councils have Gypsy Liaison Officers who would possibly help you.  Something else I have thought of is that if there are Christmas activites going on locally (ie Fayres, carol singing, etc) or Girl Guide/Boy Scout meetings, print loads of flyers out and ask if they could be handed out to people.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Scottie lover - thanks for keeping us uptodate with what you are doing for dear little Duff.  Just a thought, but have you got the junction of the private drive with the main road well postered (the bigger the better) so that motorists who travel the road on a daily basis, as well as delivery vans who maybe only travel weekly or so, will notice.  It's worth trying anything to get Duff home.  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I will forward Duff's details to the Scottie Dog World correspondent and Our Dogs Correspondent so that Duff's details will appear in the Scottier breed notes. I will also forward Duff's details to STECS who have Scottie reps up and down the country. If there are house near where he went missing then put poster through their letterboxes. Also giv e poster to milkmen, paperboys bin men etc who travel round the area. Contact you local dog warden on a daily basis and find out where starys dogs in your area go to and ring them and try and go down regularly. Hope you find Duff very soon. Scotties are very special little dogs.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Scottie lover - have you put an advert in your local paper, or asked your local radio/TV to do an appeal.  That way it would come to the notice of a greater number of people.  You could also ask teachers at any local schools to make an announcement to their pupils.  Talk to anyone who will listen to you about Duff.  Duff has no ID tag or microchip for people to know who or where he belongs to so you must do the work to find him.  Hope you are soon reunited.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Scottie lover - I know it must be hard for you, but do not get despondent.  You owe it to Duff to do everything you possibly can to get him back home.  Have you double checked around the lake area, and asked about delivery vehicles using the private drive?  Widen your search area with posters, vets, dog wardens, dog groomers etc.  Also give your postman and refuse collectors posters (they notice a lot when out and about).  Hope you have good news soon.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks Badger for doing that. Saves us a job. Have now spoken at length with owner and given advice. There will be a photo on later this evening. Duff has gone missing in park type land and could have quite easily have ben picked up by a car or delivery vehicle and taken further. He also could still be in the area but all neighbours have been notified and have been walking dogs out looking for Duff and no sign. There is a lake but riders have ridden around searching for him in case he has gone that way. Plenty of people have been made aware in the area. Have passed contact numbers and given extensive advice re-postering and scenting. Stay safe little Duff, until you are home x  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
