- Hope this does not make you to sad but i just think it is so beautiful. I lost a treasured friend today, the little dog who used to lay, her gentle head upon my knee, and share her silent thoughts with me. She'll come no longer to my call retrieve no more her favorite ball, A voice far greater than my own has called her to his golden throne. Although my eyes are filled with tears, I thank him for the happy years He let her spend down here with me and for her love and loyalty. When it is time for me to go and join her there, this much I know... I shall not fear the transient dark for she will greet me with her bark. Love from sukimax. xxxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- By the edge of a wood at the foot of a hill, Is a lush green meadow where time stands still ! Where friends of a man and woman do run when their time on earth is over and down, for here and between this world and the next is a place where each beloved creature finds rest. On this golden land they wait and play till rainbow bridge they cross over one day ! No more do they suffer in pain or saddness for here they are whole their lives filled with gladdness, Their limbs are restored their health renewed their bodies have healed strength imbuled! They run through the grass without even a care , , untill one day they stop and sniff the air. All ears pricked forward eyes dart side to side and then all of a sudden one breaks from the pack... For just that instant their eyes have met together again person and pet, so they run to each other this friends from long past their time of their parting is over at last, The sadness they felt whilst apart has turned into joy once more in each heart, they embrace with a love that will last forever And side by side they cross over together x so sad r.i.p gemma xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- Thanks Amanette for letting us know, I've also had an email from her mum, the family will scattering Gemma's ashes in their garden and have many fond memories of her. This is not the news any of us like to hear on DL and are the Reunions we all dread. Family and friends have all done a fantastic job in their search and had some really good support from registered DL helpers, a big THANK YOU to you all. Deepest thoughts are with Gemma's family at this very sad time. Run free at the Bridge and sweet dreams Gemma you will be deeply missed. Jan xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- Gemma's Mum has rung me to let me know that Gemma has been found. Sadly it is not good news I am afraid, she had fallen into the reservoir and some United Utilities workmen found her this afternoon. Gemma's family are absolutely heartbroken but have asked me to pass on their gratefull thanks to each of you for all your support and help, it has meant a great deal to them. R.I.P. Gemma this is not the outcome we had hoped for.

- Goldiemad, thank you so much for your help especially today greatly appreciated, sorry mobile signal kept dropping when we spoke. I've been on a training course in work today and have not been on site until very late tonight. You are doing a fantastic top job helping Gemma's owner, it was a welcome relief today to hear the found GSDX was not Gemma but sad news for this poor boy R.I.P. thoughts are with his family who must be frantic not knowing where he is. - False alarm, but very sad, the gsd was infact a male gsd that had been involved in a rta. I have spoken to Gemma's mum and she has well and truly searched the area to no avail. She does not think Gemma will have survived the weather we have experienced since she went missing. Gemma was wearing a coat when she went missing and a yellow flashing collar. I will carry on looking and talking to people as I usually spend two or three hours a day there.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- My friend has spoken to her colleague and the dead *gsd" was found in Horwich and taken to the Veterinary Practice that is in Pets at Home at Middlebrook Retail Park, Horwich. As far as she knows it was the beginning of last week, so does seem an awful co-incidence. I have not telephone the owner or the Veterinary Practice as I was not sure of the correct protcol, as I am new to Doglost. The telphone number for the Vets is 01204 469478Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- Thanks Goldiemad, Gemma does not have GSD in her but looking at the photo she does have the looks of a GSD I've spoken to her owner earlier today and suggested when making enquiries to take this into account and ask about GSD crosses as well. Would be grateful if you could find further information out about the found one a.s.a.p. Jan xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- I will spend a couple of hours looking tomorrow and will take a poster into Pegasus Pets Supplies & Hillcrest Animal Hospital, both in Chorley and Adlington Pet Supplies. Are there any helpers that live near Brinscall, as I wondered whether it would be an idea to speak to the people who sell Chistmas Trees there as obviously it is very busy at this time of the year. Another thought is The Destitute Animal Shelter at Bolton Tel: 01204 526486. I hate to mention this, but a friend rang me last night to ask if I knew of any missing GSD's, as she has been told that a friend of a colleague found one dead and took it to their local vet. She is going to find more information re the location and vet practice, but is it possible Gemma could have been mistaken for a GSD. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- I have spoken to Bleakholt Animal Sanctuary and emailed them a poster. Went to Middlebrook today, Tesco and Pets at Home were fantastic and didn't hesitate to put up a poster, Asda wouldn't put one up in the store but said they would put one up in their canteen!!!!

Chorley Citizen are running the story too - fantastic news! Any publicity can only help. I have re-sent the Dog Lost posters to all my original points of contact.
The report of a dog found in the area turned out to be a blind alley, it appears that another lady had called in Rivington barn to report Gemma missing - not to report her found.
I have contacted local radio stations today, lets see if we can get her home x

- Thanks for your comments Teddys Mum. There has been a decent article in a local paper tonight (not sure which one) and local radios have been contacted today. Friends will update the site shortly. Thanks to the helpers who have replied in response to the posters being sent and said they will help look for her. Jan xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- If Gemma wondered off whilst her owner was chatting to someone, two things come to mind. 1. did anyone take her? 2. Does not bear thinking about, but have the resorvoirs been checked. It is very strange that there have been no sightings. Put food down where you last saw her. If she is around, but hiding, it will bring her out. Good luck.

- I don't know the area but wondered if maybe person who found the dog and was taking it to the vets changed their mind and may have taken it elsewhere ie another vets. Is there a PDSA Hospital or similar in the area?Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- We were in the area on Saturday and there was no sign of any wandering dogs (and my dog would certainly have let us know of anything unusual). Well done to owners/helpers who have done a fantastic job of postering. There is no way people can be unaware of Gemma. Have you thought of posters in and around Tesco and Middlebrook as so many people go there. I will not be in that area til end of week if anyone can help out... Keeping paws and fingers crossed for youLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- I walk in the area everyday and have been told that Gemma wondered off whilst her mum was chatting to another walker. The area is a combination of woodland that runs alongside reservoirs, together with wide open grassed areas. It comprises of hundreds of acres with full public access and is widely used by dog walkers, cyclists and horse riders. The owner has postered the area extremely well, and every walker I have spoken to is aware that Gemma is missing. The day after she went missing we had very extreme weather (snow and ice) which still lay on the ground on Friday. One walker I spoke to did say that someone had found an old dog onthe Monday afternoon and was taking it to Pike View Vets, but when enquiries were made with Pike View, they knew nothing about it. Unfortunately I am busy all day tomorrow but will be back there on Tuesday searching. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- jdh-187, thanks for supplying a photo, I've cropped it to bring her closer. Will email you further info and rescues to check in the area. Do keep up with the postering. Fingers crossed she has been picked up and someone sees a poster and contacts her family soon. - Gemma is my friends dog. There have been no sightings of her whatsoever since Monday morning when she was lost and we are now just at such a dead end. We're trying to stay positive and keep searching and postering the area.
Any help from members would be much appreciated. Gemma wasn't far from home and has lived in the area all her life but her hearing and eyesight aren't great because of her age.
Thanks x
