Just a point I forgot to add to my last post. If you are making posters for your lost dog, invest in a laminator. These are less than ?20 from Argos, PC World etc...and easily enable you to produce a "plasticised" poster, which is easy to pin up and weather-proof. I opted for 2 x A5 posters on A4 paper, which I laminated, then cut in half to make 2 posters per sheet.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

a great post nuttals, I am so glad you have Jimmy back after a few frantic weeks.  Your comments certainly do add hope to those of us who are searching for Rowan, although I do not know this dog, I feel I have to help as he is in my area and must be so close to me.  Your post makes me feel so positive that we must keep searching.  Thank you and Jimmy.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks nuttals, great post - very informative and useful from someone lke you who has experienced what all us animal lovers dread. I'm so pleased to hear that Jimmy is back home safe & sound and relatively unscathed from his time spent sleeping rough. Congratulations to everyone involved in the search, especially the lovely, caring farmer. Welcome home Jimmy and make the most of all the extra fuss and TLC.

Jimmy appeared at a remote farm in Bushton, North Wilts, coincidently 23 days after he was lost and approx 23 miles from where he was lost... Jimmy was seen by a farmer, playing with farm dogs, running around farm buildings, on 9th Jan. The farmer tried for several days to capture Jimmy, but just couldn't get close enough to him. The farmer called in the North Wilts Dog Warden - Sebastian Williams, who set a trap. Over the w/e, Jimmy took the bait, and very kindly, the farmer took care of Jimmy until Sebastian picked him up on Monday. We met Sebastian at Claverton Dogs Home and picked Jimmy up, late morning on Monday 12th Jan. Jimmy was found safe and well..and had obviously, somehow, weathered the frosty temps of the last 3 weeks. He was a little thin, but nothing serious. I have to say that the last 3 weeks has been a tremendous learning experience for me and my partner. For what it's worth: 1) Always remain positive - Dog's are hardy creatures, People are in the main "anaimal lovers"...so, all the while you donb't receive any bad news...think positive thoughts.  Read about the positive stories about recovered/re-united pets...there are some really great ones. 2) As DogLost.Co.Uk recommend...keep in contact with the Dog wardens from your local/neighbouring local authorities, post notices around your local area - parks, dog-walker haunts, footpaths, canals, shops, pet stores, etc etc...anywhere where people will see the details. 3) Place adverts in your local papers and mailshot houses local to where you lost your pet 4) In the nicest possible way, assume everyone knows "nothing"! - I now know that there are caring people who: # Don't know that the Police are not responsible for stray dogs...and that this responsibility is now firmly with the local authority # Don't know that each local authority has a Dog Warden # Would not necessarily report a "lost" dog to any authority ....and this is where the "Lost Notices"/Flyposters come in reallly useful I really appreciate the very quick and pragmatic advice from DogLost, immediately upon logging Jimmy's disappearance - this was really helpful. All the way through too, I have had contact, advice/guidance from DogLost, which I am sure has greatly helped our efforts in getting Jimmy back - certainly the Dog warden was very clear who to contact when Jimmy was captured. I guess my conclusion is - keep the faith. No news is good news..and if there is no bad news, then you have hope..and a great chance of a positive outcome. I would also say, keep trying - searching, postering, advertising etc...but dont "badger" your Dog wardens, Dogs Homes etc too frequently - they have a lot to do...and if you report your lost Dog details, they will conatct you first. many thanks again to all who helped - it has been really appreciated.  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Has the owner contacted Bath Dogs Home?  Sometimes strays from this area are taken there.  This is a very popular dog walking area (Southwick I mean!) so hopefully someone may have picked him up and you will be re-united as soon as that person realises he's missing.  This is also very close to the Somerset border, so please also check St Giles kennels in Taunton.............I know it is MILES away, but that is where Somerset strays go.....so please check!!!  Have you contacted the local paper??Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Message from carer: Many thanks for the super fast response with the advice and guidance - it really is appreciated.
In addition to alerting the Dog Warden, local Vets etc..I have pin'd up posters around the town - on telegraph poles, around the country park, in local stores etc and posted a flyer through all the houses in the area where we think he may be.
I have a problem with the photo at the moment - I'll explain.
My partners Mum has been looking after her other daughters dog (Jimmy), while she is away on holiday in the Scottish Isles. Although Jimmy lives in Coventry..he has been staying with my partners Mum in Trowbridge, Wiltshire, for nearly 1 week, while his "Mum" is away on her hols.
My partner and I took Jimmy for a walk with our dog...in a very large country park in Trowbridge...and unfortunately after about 30 mins...he just decided to run, unexpectedly. I managed to follow him, but eventually, he disappeared. I spotted him again later that day, but was unable to catch him. He has been seen a couple of times (I have had calls, based on people seeing the posters)...but he is still missing.
We have been searching off and on, round the clock, but have heard nothing - good news or bad news - today. We are hoping that he has been taken in..or has found a hiding place for the moment.
Back to the photo, with the owner away...we cant get a photo - that said, Jimmy is a classic Jack Russell.
Of slight concern, he has a collar, but the phone number relates to his Coventry home...and there is no-one there until his "Mum" comes back on 28th Dec.
I have also arranged to place an ad. in the 2 local papers...and am also hoping the local radio station will play an appeal
I'll keep the lost entry updated...and will get a photo as soon as I can.
thanks again so much for your help.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
