Never give up. I live in Wiltshire and every old black lab I see I call Woody just in case its your dog. When our dog was stolen we put up posters in Estate Agents windows, human nature when passing an Estate Agents is to look in the window. I was amazed by the amount of calls from people who just wanted to say how sorry they were. Georgie our 10 week old lab was stolen nearly two years ago but i won't give up looking for her, I owe her that. Keep positive and keep looking, my thoughts are with youLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

hello everyone. No news at all i am afraid. I am starting to face up the the very real possibilty that he may be dead. Not being defeatist here just looking at the facts. woody has been gone now for a month, and i have done everything possible to make his profile as hot as posible which i believe i have. But there has been not one positive sighting of my lovely boy, and no suspicions or leads that he may be with someone. Its just too damn wierd. We live in a very tight knit rural community, and if he was around someone would know something. Its so very sad that this lovely dog who would sit on the lawn for hours guarding my goddaughter, let children ride on his back, carry my cat around in his mouth when she was a kitten, and funniest of all catch the mice the cat had brought into the house, take them carefully outside in mouth and drop them unharmed. This wonderful dog, who would walk with me for miles, and tirelessly be at my side no matter the weather. All he knew was how to give love, and no matter how bad your day, he would grin at you...literally..and wiggle and wag until you took him for his walk. I miss him desperately, he was my friend.......Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Still nothing regarding my boy. Had another prank call last nite which is horrible. Chap phoned ( number witheld) said ' i think i may have your dog' ...(sounded like he was pissed in a pub).. then he put the phone down and never called back...great eh?! Anyway there is a free paper that is delivered to 50 thousand homes in this area and we have taken out a big ad, and renewed all the other ads in the other locals and renewed the on air announcements with the radio stations. Jayne, last nite nothing to report.... come on woody show yourself!!!!!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

yes but this was two days ago and a very long way from where i live. I know their dog was in grimsby but all the same what is really puzzling me now is the zero sightings of woody, anything to follow up on. He has just vanished. Its too strange, i think i am going back to basics and do door to door in my immediate area again over the weekend.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

hello everyone. well another frustrating day..this village called gretton seems to have at least four black labs that are allowed to roam the streets during the day! yet again i had a call today from a woman who had hold of a lab but on descrition was clearly not my boy. Then late again another person rang from the same village saying they had the dog and this time i flew over to identify , to be honest mainly to eliminate him from my enquiries as i feel its the same poor dog that people, albeit kindly, keep catching then phoning me...poor thing must wonder what an earth is going on. Anyway i digress...so i went over to meet this guy outside a pub, only to find the pub was closed and no sign of any man with a dog. Yep you guessed, it was a hoax...how bloody nice!! Now on the positive front, the RSPCA kennels in Leicester called about 6pm today and described a lab that the warden had just brought in. I am very excited because woody has a distinctive mark on his tail which sets him aside from others. The lady at the centre described this to me before i had chance to tell her!! he is in a bit of a state as one would expect for being outside for nearly two weeks now. They dont open until 11am tomorrow morning, going to have a restless night...is it my boy? could it really be? god i hope so.... sorry for this long mail, and i will let you all know tomorrow. Keep the faith for all our missing friends.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Patrick 2 - keep looking and putting posters up, Woody must still be out there waiting for you to find him! He's probably being well looked after by someone who thinks he's a stray or hasn't seen posters etc. He looks an adorable boy - the best of luck!!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

what a body blow today. Had a call from a lady in gretton who was sitting in her garden when this black lab came in and jumped in her fish pond! she put a lead on it and phoned me, and although he had on a collar (woody hasnt) he still fitted the description...so...i called a very close friend of mine who lives close by as i was stuck in Nottingham and as he knows woody well flew over in his car to check. Well of course it was not woody after all. Although i tried not to raise my hopes, it still left me with an empty feeling again. I think my friend was just as dissapointed. There has been sightings in this same village about a lab without a collar so i am not losing faith just yet!!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Patrick-this sounds very promising! 3 sightings in the same village! have you asked your Dog warden or RSPCA if they have a dog trap-may well be worth your while. Also leave an item of clothing in the lady who was feeding him garden-they do come back when they know there is a food source.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

hello all. Well i have had 3 different sightings today of a black lab answering the descriptions of my boy, in the same village. After many hours searching and calling there was no sign. The village has now become 'hot' with just about every lampost and pubs, door to door covered. Everywhere we went today people were saying 'oh its your lost lab is it, we will hold on to him if we find him' this is exactly how it should be. One woman was absolutely convinced it was him having fed him when he wandered into her back garden, and he drank two saucepans of water! Some teenagers rang the local post office saying they were playing with a lost looking lab in the local park....was it him? and where the hell is he now? who knows? Jayne i think may be right when she says that when a dog finds an easy source of food and water they tend to hang around in that area...lets hope so. very sad again today but have to remain positive for his sake. I am determined to have a happy ending!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

How annoying! You would think that owners would make a special effort to keep their black Labs in as they know yours is missing-surely they realise that others who have seen the posters will be ringing you with sightings. Was it the vicar's dog again?Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

had two reported sightings of a black lab in two separate villages last night. Unfortunately they were not woody. It was a local dog who likes to wander around. Blimey there are so many black lab owners!!...Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hear Hear!! couldn't agree with you more on this one Patrick. You do wonder how many dogs are sat in rescues as no one seems to inform anyone else or cross check-the"system" for finding lost dogs at present is non existant!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

looking at this site i get the feeling how important it is to share information and progress....good or bad. I have taken all of your advice and printed more posters to place in strategic areas to keep my boy 'hot'. Its amazing how you start to think where to place them, i have put them in Rutland water park where they hire bicycles to the public. when i went on sunday this place had literally hundreds of people hiring bikes so i asked the manager and he kindly put one on the till! Then at the fishing lodge, all the local pubs, bridle ways.etc I would like to comment on a point that one poor woman had when finding her dog had been knocked down, and to illustrate the apalling breakdown of communication in local authorities. I telephoned two of my local council cleansing departments, not a pleasant thing to do but its all about needing to know, as i am sure you all can appreciate. I was told (fortunately so far) that the road crew had not found my beloved woody. But when i questioned whether they contact the local dog warden, the answer was a staggering no! I asked again and was told they dont have an obligation to inform anyone if they should find a dead dog by the roadside, only to clear it away and dispose of it...how nice! how reassuring to know where our council tax is NOT being spent. And this was the same answer from two independant councils. This defies belief in this electronic age that basic communication is not evident, if all else fails, surely a pencil, paper and a telephone and a concience is all one needs.....or am i just another biased, emotional, frustrated dog owner?....Bring back Thats Life! Esther would have had a field day with this. Thanks again to you all. Really missing him now...Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks jade thats a nice thought and i think you are right...people are so concerned and what is encouraging is the amount of people who are now seeing the posters all over the place. I have spent yet another tireless day putting up posters from pubs to garden centres, golf courses you name it i have been doing it...but... it still makes me deeply sad how there has been no sightings at all!!....I will keep going and will keep this forum updated...thanks to you all for your inspiration.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I found other dog owners in my area were also extremely helpful when our girl went missing. Weeks after we got her home people were asking about her, one man even told me that his wife could finally get some sleep and they didn't even know us but they had seen all the posters. The more people looking out for Woody the better and I hope you have him back home very soon.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks Jayne thats very helpful. Have spent most of today putting up posters everywhere, from the local shops ( yes there are still some surviving) to the local tip, and scrapyards. Its so encouraging how genuinely sympathetic and helpful everyone is. I think when woody is found i will need to take out an editorial in the local paper to thank everyone as he seems to be getting famous!! PatrickLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

hello everyone. well its been a heartbreaking five days with no sightings or information about woody. So frustrating. I guess i may not be the first to have lost a member of the family, but he would not give up on me and i will repay that loyalty till he is found. I cannot give up!! The worst time is when you go to bed and the last thought you have is that he is out there alone somewhere, it makes me want to just jump in my car and drive aimlessly around the country lanes, hoping to see him padding along the verge. I have to confess this is something i have done every night...i am very tired and sad. Many thanks to all of you wonderful people out there who are helping me, i sincerely hope we are a nation of dog lovers after all, and that i can soon post a letter in the dogs reunited section. I will keep you all posted..thanks again. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
