Thank you Ed.  Its such an amazing story, with such a wonderful ending, we might refer the 'press' up here to it, if you have no objection.  Then we could possibly add some publicity about DogLost and a local situation on the end of it.   Very many thanks - and love to Bruce from all of us here Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Yes it's a quite astonishing story.
It's hard for me to imagine what he has been through. Shirley said it was -9 some nights. Really terrible! and if the guy had reported him when he found him Bruce would have been back home that afternoon instead of suffering outside for a week. Idiot! Beggers belief.
Fast asleep and wrapped up in blankets now though

Welcome home Bruce!
I hope you do get some press coverage on Bruce's ordeal to hopefully educate anyone who finds a lost dog in the future to get him/her scanned & alert their local dog warden etc!!
Bruce could have been home within hours if the muppet who picked him up in Bristol had got him scanned straight away!!
Poor Bruce, its been so cold this past week!
Thank goodness for Doglost.
Well done everyone!

Great news! Have spoken to finder and thanked her so much...by the way she was alerted to this website by a greyhound rescue..LOL! thanks guys..if we all work together results can happen...also well done to owner who acted immediately and went and postered area..not knowing at that stage if it was Bruce..and well done to the village for looking out. Bizarre that Bruce should hand himself in to the publican...or do they know more than we accredit them? Or did he pick up on his owners scent? Great result..DOGLOST ROCKS!!!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Bruce is back!
and yes it is him! We had his chip checked (at Holly Hedge on the way back home) and it is a match.
We knew it was Bruce straight away of course! But he is nearly unrecognisable he has lost so much weight. We are all back home now and Bruce has had a good fed and is warm and now crashed out in his bed. Poor lad is exhausted! It seems clear he had been outside since wandering the fields last Weekend as he had been sighted in places as far as 2 miles from the Village. Still he is back now.
I want to thank everyone for their hard work in looking for Bruce especially  Gina, Lynn, and Jan. Thank you

What a lovely ending for gorgeous Bruce, I'm so pleased for you.  It sounds as if Bruce dosen't like parties (bit like myself) and luckily he escaped all the noise from the party, if he hadn't then he would probably still be with the man who found him.  Welcome home Bruce, looking forward to hearing your story.  Kind Regards JulieLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Posse going out to corral it. Hopefully it is Bruce.
Going down tomorrow to help.
Say what you like about villages but lived on this road in Bristol for 2 years and still barely on nodding terms with most of the neighbours. cheer.

Happy Landings Animal Sanctuary have an indoor sale at Evercreech Village Hall - Sat 10th jan (tomorrow) 10am - 1pm.
Details here: Happy Landings
I just left a message on the organiser's answerphone to let them know about Bruce.
Not sure if they have internet access but I thought it would be good for them to display some posters of Bruce at their event as it is so close to Batcombe and obviously there will be lost of dog walkers/animal lovers there?

Ed, this does really sound like Bruce.. both the description & the timing fits??
Bruce seems like the type of dog who would be clever enough to find his way home if he was straying locallly?
If this guy did pick up Bruce then that would explain the lack of sightings in Bristol?
Happy Landings Animal Shelter at Pylle is just a few miles from Batcombe, their number is 01749 860350.
I left a brief message for them today about Bruce, but it would definately be worth you calling their emergency number tomorrow (number on their answerphone message)
They can alter local supporters & staff can also look out for Bruce?
Also local press contacts for Mid Somerset Gazette:
http://www.thisissomerset.co.uk/central/contact.html
and the Western Daily Press:Telephone: 0117 934 3223
It would be good to get Bruce’s details publish to reach people across the Somerset area?
Thank goodness Bruce is chipped, and good to hear local people are putting food down & looking out for him.
Fingers crossed,
Gina x

Drove down and spoken to Shirley at the Three Horseshoes Inn in Batcombe, Somerset (BA4 6HE). The lovely lady who reported the wandering dog.
I have to say it does seem possible it's Bruce. Clearly I have no idea if it is REALLY Bruce and just another unfortunate dog. But there are many coincidences.
She said the dog was much slighter/less heavily built than a normal greyhound/Lurcher. And so is Bruce. She also said the photo looked very similar - same ears? Right colour. Right type of dog. The dog also had no collar apparently. Someone had tied some tinsel and bows there instead. The story goes (as related to the ladylady by this bloke) that this guy found the dog on his doorstep either on the 1st or 2nd of January at his house in Bristol (don't know which area). Looked after him for (2?) days then drove down Batcombe with the dog for a party/rave in a private barn on the Weekend. The dog escaped from the party that night and the guy clearly spent sometime looking for him the next day. Landlady saw the dog 30yrds away in the Pub car park. It ran off. Dog walker saw same dog in the field where the barn is on Tuesday. No sightings since.
Some of the locals are leaving food out and Shirley has very kindly offered to poster the surrounding villages.
It would explain why noone has seen anything in Bristol if this Guy had him? Just don't know?
Hopefully Ed

Let hope the poor dog is picked up soon.
Really sounds like it could be Bruce doesn't it?
I just left a mesage on the answerphone of Happy Landings Animal Shelter to ask them to look out for Bruce.
They are at Pylle, on the A37 in Somerset, so not too far from Wincanton.
They will scan every dog that arrives there so lets hope he is picked up soon & scanned?
Fingers crossed,
Gina x
p.s. I agree why on earth would you take a stray dog (or any dog?) to a rave?

Ok spoken with the lady in Somerset.
Apparently this dog was lost at a Rave they had down there over the New Year Weekend. The guy who lost him had been down there looking. He said he found the dog on his doorstep in Bristol and had only had him 2 day before they went down to Somerset on the Saturday
Described as a blond lurcher with up and down ears.
Never ceases to amaze me. But why would you take a stray dog you'd just found to a rave???

Yes, I would definately keep calling the Dogs Home & Dog warden regularly.
I have spoken to 2 people recently who had lost dogs and the proper information hadn't been given to the owners by the dogs home? Hopefully this is rare?
I'd hope this wouldn't happen with Bruce as he is chipped and has been in the Evening post but chips can sometimes migrate or get corrupted it wouldnt do any harm to keep ringing the dogs home or even go down there?
Good luck,
Gina x

Gina you are a superstar! Thank you
Checked allotments again this morning. All the Meaty Chunks have disappeared from the bowl and the biscuits left - very Bruce like. But again doesn't confirm anything sadly and saw no evidence of a dog up there.
Made me smile though the thought that the dog biscuits are really that horrible even the Foxes leave them.
Will contact all the wardens and dogshome again today.

Have all the local vets been postered or phoned about Bruce just incase someone has picked him up & taken him to a vet?

Thanks very Everyone.
Sadly that's not Bruce. Bruce has a whiter face and a darker snout. Good looking dog though hope he finds his owner soon.
Been back to the allotments, again, been every morning and evening since he was seen. The food I put out has gone, unsuprisingly, but don't think this confirms anything to be honest. Will put more out later.
Got the feeling he's not on the allotments. Lots of relaxed cats wondering about and chickens in a coop. I can't see a hungry dog not trying for a chicken I afraid even if the fence is electrified (albeit low at 2 feet high).
Hopefully the paper will turn something up.
My gut feeling tells me someone has picked him up

I just got back & walked all round Troopers Hill. Saw nothing but spoke to plenty of dog walkers who are all looking out for Bruce.
Would it be worth putting some food & water in the allotments?
I could see a few cats mooching around in the allotments so hopefully Bruce may have caught some mice or something to eat? Plus he may have sheltered in a polly tunnel or shed?
Lets hope Bruce is found soon?

We had a sighting of a "very dirty pale lurcher with a limp" in the Allotments backing on to Troopers Hill this afternoon. I was up there a quick as possible (within 5mins) but after spending a good while checking all the sheds, calling, and looking around, saw nothing.
Dog Warden was alerted.

Yes, it is me with Jack & Mutley.
I hope you got on ok with the Evening Post?
I put some posters up at the entrance to Trooper's Hill and the car park at Crew's hole and on the poo bins etc along the river towards the tea gardens, just incase Bruce has headed down towards the river walkway?
My sister went to poster Eastville park, but saw you had already put up loads of posters.
We have given some posters to friends in fishponds who have rescued greyhounds.
I have been asking every dog walker we meet to keep their eye's peeled for Bruce.
Are there are particular areas that Bruce might have headed towards?
Best wishes & I hope you are safe Bruce where ever you are?

Hi Gina (of Jack and Mutley fame? )
We too hope he been taken in by someone. Thank you for you message and thanks also for advice. I will speak to Evening Post on Monday (tomorrow).
FYI: Bruce wasn't on medication for his condition. After talking with Vets at local surgery and Pet Hospital we all felt, on advice from vets, that we'd keep him off the heavy drugs for now. They relive the symptoms and the dog stops fitting but have nasty side-effects in themselves (i.e. possible liver damage), need to be taken, once started, daily for the rest of the dog's life and will possibly induce another attack if dose is missed.
We did have drugs (relaxants and others) to relive his distress if the attack was prolonged. Poor lad. Wish I knew where he was.
Have updated the details with Bruce's Microchip number
Thanks for everything

I really hope someone has taken Bruce in and that he is warm & safe? x
As he didnt have a collar on a well meaning person may have thought he was a stray?
The Bristol Evening Post are very good at covering any animal stories so it would be worth Bruce’s family contacting the Evening Post newsdesk on 0117 934 3333 and ask them to write an article.
I would REALLY stress that Bruce has seizures and that he needs medication as this might sway someone to hand him in IF they have taken him in??
The BBC Points West newsdesk is 0117 974 6877.
Contact them both as early as possible (and maybe even today?) as I know the deadline for the Evening Post is 10am for that days publication.
Good luck.

Thank you for your email. Sorry I didn't include all the stuff you needed but I had trouble getting the site to work.
Please find attached the details you asked for.
The circumstances: Bruce was recovering from a Canine Epileptic Seizure. He gets these regularly every 10-12 days. I had let him into the front garden to defecate which is often the first thing he needs to do after recovering. Full recovery can take a couple of hours but this was only 5 minutes after he cam around. I am sure, I know, I checked the gate was closed. Also it being -1c, 4:00 in the morning and only in my dressing gown, I left the poor lad to his privacy and waited, front door open, in the hall. When I checked again (less than 2mins) he had gone. The gate being slightly ajar. I immediately dressed and started looking - checking all the spots he goes to regularly (The local park, lamposts, spots he's found scraps of food etc). Nothing. Roads were empty.
We have continued going to his favourite spots every couple of hours just incase.
Printing out posters at the moment.
Thank you again
