- Sorry but it's a big story!!!
Part 2
On Friday May 21st just before lunch time sightings were coming in thick and fast and a report came in that Roxie was being chased by the Police in vehicles with the sirens on. The team started to make the calls necessary to try and de-escalate the situation with increasing concerns she would be hit by a car in such a busy area. It was during one of these calls to the Police that we were informed Roxie had just bolted straight through the open door of a cafe! Further calls were made to advise how to handle her and settle her down until suitable assistance could be on-site. A member of CCUK drove straight to the area along with Birkenhead Kennels who willingly supplied a secure crate and she was taken back home completely exhausted.
Roxie you have given us many sleepless nights. You have been described by sighters as “running like Forest Gump” but those days are over and we are happy you are no longer running. You’ve used a few of your lives over the last week and its time to learn to stay safe, trust and rest.
Thank you to Nick for heading straight out to Roxie when she was next to the M53. Thank you to Jane and group ‘admins’ for monitoring the local social media groups and passing on sighting information. Thank you to the Gamekeeper for allowing access to his land to place cameras to monitor the area. Thank you to the community who left her alone and called in sightings and for sharing her plight across social media. Thank you to Merseyside Police for following the advice as to how to handle Roxie in the cafe. Thank you to the employee of the neighbouring convenience store for taking the time to rush next door and confirm she was safe inside! Thank you to Sarah of Birkenhead Kennels. Thank you to her owner Sarah, who supported Roxie throughout and followed the advice at each stage.
Remote cameras are vital for dogs like Roxie because they allow us to monitor an area 24x7 without human interference. Sadly two of these were stolen during the course of Roxie’s case. One has been located and returned but the second is still missing and an appeal will be going out for that in due course.
If you would like us to continue to help dogs like Roxie donations are gratefully received to help with fuel, food for the feeding stations and data for the remote cameras, thank you.

- I couldn't open Majorjet's link below. Apologies if this is the same but reading the whole story might help peoples' understanding of street dogs.
Copied from Wirral Missing Pets page.
Roxie is a 5 year old rescue dog from Bosnia. In her younger years she was taken off the streets by the ‘dog catchers’, speyed and released back onto the streets. She was then ‘taken in’ by a kind gentleman who offered Roxie food and a safe space where she would spend her days relaxing in the fields. Tragically Roxie’s carer passed away and a rescue were called to assist to help her get the care she needed. Roxie trusted no one and as a result she was trapped using a humane animal trap and brought to the UK to her new home. After 4 days on 14th May 2021, Roxie clawed and chewed her way through a garden gate and escaped in the Wallasey area.
Early sightings showed that Roxie was close to home but the following day she was sighted south of the Docks. She had crossed over the River Mersey and railway lines without a single sighting being reported. Subsequent sightings were erratic and she was chased many times which heightened her state of fear. Roxie was evading humans at all costs and to evidence this she was sighted IN the River Mersey. In Bosnia she lived next to a river and she used that experience to keep herself safe.
She continued to move South to the Bebington area and was seen next to the M53 during rush hour. A humane trap was placed that afternoon to give her an opportunity. At 2pm Roxie showed herself briefly before sloping back into the woodland and the wait began. Sadly Roxie did not entertain the trap and the following morning on the 17th May she was across the other side of the M53. A well meaning member of the public made an attempt to get a lead on her, which caused her to bolt straight across the motorway, she was lucky to be alive.
The trap was removed to offer her mental freedom and remote cameras were placed across the area. Over the next few days sightings lessened and were typically late at night or early in the morning across the Higher Bebington and Brimstage area. The cameras and feeding stations were moved in the hope she would find them. The sightings were not consistent and they didn’t provide an opportunity to bring her in safe.
On May 19th late at night she was seen heading back North through the Rock Ferry and Birkenhead area and the following morning she made a couple of attempts to cross back over the Docks. Whilst the team hoped she would wait until it was quieter, Roxie was unable to find anywhere safe to hide and she made the brave decision to run for the bridge. She was heading back to the home area of Wallasey. Her owner was advised and Roxie was given the opportunity to get into her home should she make that decision.
At 12.10 she was only 700m from home but a number of sightings came in and when only 500m from home she was spooked by passing police cars. The sightings showed that Roxie was exhausted and likely to be very dehydrated as the only source of water the team were aware she had access to was back in Bebington. The ‘Water for Roxie’ appeal was made to help support her. At 18:25 the last sighting came in and it looked like an exhausted Roxie had found somewhere safe to rest only 1km from home.
The evening of 20th May was a long one and as dawn came it was confirmed that Roxie was not home. The team were concerned that Roxie was not looking for her UK home, but her home next to the river in Bosnia. We needed her to stop running and to calm down to afford the team an opportunity to bring her home. - CROSS POSTED post by Chillington Rehoming Rescue in reply to the update I had posted on the share post and below:
everything you said ππΌ
with enormous gratitude to everyone you mention, but mostly to ALL YOU PEOPLE, sighters πβ€οΈπ
.. what you all collectively did is show Roxie she couldn’t be further away from her old life - and that is what she needed to realise
Had she been wandering around this long in Bosnia where she came from, people would have shooed her away, they would have cursed at her, kids might have thrown stones and stuff at her… some might even try and run her over with their cars on purpose;
she might have met one or two good souls over there but 99% of population thinks she’s vermin; one of those rare good souls was her late owner, so you can imagine her grief was deep
There is a FREE neuter/spay program in Bosnia, ran by Dogs Trust - several months every year, for years now
Owners prefer to throw little puppies away, bitches on heat also;
they ALL cause this then most of them hate them and mistreat them
Owners dogs are usually kept on chains
So after experiencing 4 years of this, the week this beautiful incredibly intelligent and perceptive girl surely knows now that this place here is good ….
Roxie will never ever feel unworthy again ♥οΈ
Please Consider Adoption, shelter dogs all over the place in UK and in other countries really need you π - 2021-05-21 23:18 Majorjet (Jan) - Area Co-ordinator - Liverpool/Merseyside, North West
