What a lovely update thank you Christine. So very pleased for you both.
Christine
Just thought I would update you on Cloda's homecoming...
The lovely lady called Nicky who found her has one of these motion sensor doorbells and lives at the end of a cul-de-sac. Cloda must have wandered right to the end and onto her drive and set off the doorbell. Nicky thought it was probably a fox or cat but when the doorbell activated again, something made her get up to investigate. Due to all the publicity generated by DogLost volunteers and all the caring folk out there, she knew instantly it was missing Cloda. This was about 3.30am, bless her! She kindly waited until a more civilised hour (not that I would have cared!) to let me know. Apparently, as soon as she opened her door, Cloda just walked up, said hello and invited herself in the front door!
What is really spooky is that this lady's late husband was known to some of the people helping me and was a great Greyhound fan who had a real way with dogs. What Karma!
Cloda has been checked out by the vet and, apart from being a bit stiff, having a few abrasions, sore paws and a bit of diarrhoea, is remarkably unscathed. When asked, the vet expressed the opinion that Cloda did not have the appearance of a dog that had been living out in the elements, scavenging for food and generally living on her wits for 11 days. He believed that she had been taken in by someone during her sojourn. When she was picked up, who held her and how it came about that she got free will never be known. Whether she was given up due to conscience or she wasn't worth the hassle under the withering onslaught of all the publicity we shall never know but I am so very pleased that she is back home.
As to sleep... she was spark out last night but as she was taking up most of the bed, I got almost none :-(
Thank you all so very, very much xxxx

I'm so pleased this lovely girl is home safe and wish her mum all the best for her forthcoming surgery.

Update from Christine

CLODA'S HOME!

I had a call from a lovely lady at 5.40 this morning saying she had Cloda at home. Her "Ring" doorbell went off in the early hours then when it went off a second time, she thought she would investigate. Lo and behold, there was Cloda on the drive! This lovely lady settled her in with her own two dogs and gave her a bit of breakfast and then called me. Cloda is a absolutely knackered (aren't we all) and currently dozing in her basket. She seems to have a few cuts and bruises so it will be off to the vet for the once over later.

I would like to express my heartfelt thanks for all the effort that you wonderful people have put in to the campaign to find Cloda. You kind messages and well wishes have been truly heartwarming. All your posts, shares, word of mouth, all the dog-walkers, joggers and cyclists keeping their eyes peeled, all the enquiring, all the talking... everything that YOU have done to raise Cloda's profile has brought her home to her Mum.

I absolutely cannot thank you all enough and there are no words of mine that can adequately express my gratitude. I will shortly be going into hospital for major surgery and I can now do so knowing that my darling girl is safe and well.

Cloda and I thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Love to you all. Cloda's Mum. xxxx

Possible sighting in Faversham! Someone posted on Faversham Matters FB that she'd seen a black greyhound with white chest wandering near Morrisons in West Street earlier today. I've reported Cloda missing to Swale Council and also the sighting of a loose greyhound so that is being passed to the dog warden. I told the officer we were making Cloda rather "hot" down in Ashford and she said often "hot" dogs will be dumped in neighbouring towns. Just trying to get more info on the sighting. Fingers crossed. Cx
Christine
No luck yesterday evening but everyone I spoke to has seen the poster, read about her on FB or their Mum/sister/neighbour has told them about her!
We have had a night of heavy rain and thunderstorms here and I feel if she could get home, that would have brought her home last night or driven her to habitation to seek shelter. Maybe she will be found this morning but I am more convinced than ever that someone has got her and is keeping her out of sight until the fuss dies down. Thanks, everyone. Cx
Christine
Hi, folks, still no news, sadly. Thanks for the heads-up on the SAR stuff - one of my more tech-savvy friends is going to give me help on this front.
I had no luck out searching and postering yesterday evening but am about to set off again, heading north(ish). Not much point going in the heat of the day as Cloda tends to lie in the cool rather than be on the move in the open. I'll go round the new-build development sites tomorrow giving out posters.
I e-mailed the poster link to the Council's grounds maintenance team and they have given copies to the operatives who will kindly keep an eye out so more coverage across the borough.
Cloda is quite high profile so I hope that someone will spot her sooner or later and if someone is holding her she may become too hot to handle. Also, she has a recurring wrist injury (which is why she retired) so will be of no use for illegal racing or coursing so she will probably be dumped at some point. I am sure I will get her back sooner or later but what state she will be in, well... poor little mite. Thanks, everyone... especially you, Nikinooo! Cx

SAR sounds a great idea- so many hiding places from where Cloda went missing. A friend and I searched the back fields and woods yesterday- quite overgrown and dense, making it very difficult to see anything at all. I've had a look at the SAR page on FB- I'm trying to join, but it states it needs to be the owner of the dog that joins.. so Can DogLost help Christine with this?
Spoke to quite a few people yesterday about Cloda in the village, most people are aware, which is good.

Christine maybe a good idea to join SAR drone search and rescue

Most sightings will probably be at dusk and dawn. If Cloda is an ex racer I've found they mostly respond to their own kind, so if there are any retired greyhound groups in the area and you get a sighting it may be worth asking them to do a walk in that area. Please also make local kennels aware as she may hang about them at feeding time. Hope you find your girlie soon and she must be missing her sofa.Last edited: 2021-06-15 07:35:10 by Me N My Girl - Administrative Volunteer

Niki thank you
I have checked with Christine - no collar on when she went missing
Nikinooo
Possible sighting this evening, an hour ago. Posted on Fluffys lost, found and missing pets in Ashford .. "I saw a black dog skinny with collar outside Stanhope shop eat around bin. Couldn't see an owner..."
Christine- did Cloda have a collar on? Last edited: 2021-06-14 21:58:15 by Nikinooo

Best wishes ❤️
Christine
Thanks for the advice, Heather. I shall consult with my more tech savvy friends :-)
Christine
Hi, skyninchar, sadly no. Few to choose from and cheap, crappy phone camera. But, hey, a black greyhound is a black greyhound. That's why the poor things are always the last to be chosen - everyone wants the pretty brindles, black & whites etc :-(
HeatherG
Hi Christine. Ok, I understand what you’re saying. I don’t have a good signal or much time to commit to be able to do it, but if someone offers to do it for you ( a group or page) then I’d bite their hand off tbh, it’s all extra publicity xx
Christine
Hi, Heather, thank you for that offer. I don't really do social media so don't really understand how it all works. Cloda's plight is on our village fb and Nextdoor pages and I have friends in the village who are monitoring and updating it for me so I think I'll stick with that for the time being. Everyone is so kind but don't worry about me as I'm being well looked after and am OK in myself... it is just a time consuming and disruptive nuisance!
skyninchar
Are there any clearer images
HeatherG
Christine, I’m really sorry to see that you have such serious health issues at the moment. I wonder if it might help to make a fb page or group for Cloda? Somewhere you could post and update as you felt up to it ....people may offer to help you administrate it also, if you ask for help. Best wishes ❤️❤️
Christine
Hi folks, no news on my darling Cloda yet but I am very grateful for all the help, advice and kind words of support. It hasn't come at a good time for me as I'm backwards and forwards to hospital at the mo with cancer but that is nothing compared to poor Cloda out there on her own. My heartfelt thanks to you all and love to all you doggy parents going through the same thing. Thanks. Cx

Thank you Nicky- I have made contact with the owner, hoping to sort something out with her. Myself and a friend will also be searching the surrounding area. I hope she can make her way home, or lets someone find her. Hope she's home safe and sound soon xx
