Oh Julie this is devastating news.  My heart goes out to you and your family you really tried so hard and did a brilliant job looking for her.  Run free at the Bridge and sweet dreams lovely Rosie.  Thank you to the kind samaritan who took the time to stay with Rosie, well done you are a true star.  Jan xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Oh Julie, I am so so sorry for you and your family. Just awful news. Thanks must go to the young lady who first reported the definite sighting to you and also the kind man who waited with Rosie in the park for the RSPCA. So bad the RSPCA couldn't, given the location and your lost report to them, make a connection and then even worse that you had to really badger them to get the relevant details. You worked hard to get your girl back Julie, I am gutted for you that this is the outcome. Run painfree in the sunshine at Rainbow Bridge beautiful Rosie. x x x Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
JULIE
Hello all, I would like to thank you all for your help and support, it seems that someonel else reported finding Rosie to the RSPCA and because he said he would stay with her they came out, he put a blanket over her and waited with her for one and a half hours, then put her in the back of the van himself.  Why the young lady in their control center did not tell me that on friday morning I do not know.  It then took nearly 24 hours and many phone calls to track her down to the Harmsworth hospital where she had been taken after having an operation for a fracture femural bone.  Unfortunately the wound broke down and they had to put her down about 2 weeks ago.  They had decided that she was a labrador cross, the only reason that I found her was because I insisted that they look for anything black and tan on their records.  I think that this may be a big issue with cross bred or unusual pedigree dogs.  Their decision that it was a lab cross really took some pushing to get around, I know that it was my dog because the people who were with her described her collar and her to a 'T'.  Anyone who has lost a dog, please make sure that you ask them to look up anything in the appropriate colour and go for the breed afterwards.  Thanks again for everyone's help.  JulieLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Good news about this definite sighting, although it was a while ago at least it gives you something positive to go on. I would say ensure all local vets have been notified and I'd really try and deliver a poster to each so they can see exactly what Rosie looks like. If you can't pop them in by hand, send by post and I am sure they'd display on noticeboard in the practice too. You can find vets in any area, search by postcode, via the 'Find any UK vet' link on the right of the Doglost page, under the missing alert latest dog rotation, or if not web address is www.any-uk-vet.co.uk. Any local PDSAs etc, make sure they are aware too. If someone has taken Rosie in, especially if she was possibly injured chances are finders may have taken her to a vets. I presume there are houses bordering the park? If so, put posters through their doors or even better smaller flyers - we can produce smaller flyers for you if needed and email over - if you'd like me to do this for you let me know. You'd have thought someone may have seen her so it may just be a case of jogging peoples memory as it was a good few weeks ago she was there.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Have just had a definite reported sighting of Rosie on 31st Jan, day after she went missing, she was found in Lawns Park, Collier Row, looked injured, young lady tried to get her up but she snapped at her, young lady went home with own dog, phoned RSPCA who refused to come out!!  When she went back to the park the dog had gone.  I have just been to park and put up more posters, the ones I had placed there had been removed.  If anyone lives around that area please keep your eyes peeled, greatly appreciated.  JulieLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi, Rosie went missing from Ascension Road off Chase Cross Road, I have had reported sightings as far away as Wingletye Lane, Hornchurch and Petersfield Ave, Harold Hill.  These were within two days of each other and I have combed both areas with no luck.  The other dog (Saluki cross) was seen around the Carter Drive and roads leading off, apparently for several weeks before Rosie went missing.  The people who contacted me thinking that it was Rosie had all had a go at catching the dog but as I found when I tried, its very thin but also still very fast and frightened, will not come near you even for food, once its gone its gone, obviously knows lots of hiding places.  I think that it was following rubbish collection days around the area but no sightings in the last week.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

JULIE
Hi all, Thank you for address etc of kennels, will contact them, have now also registered with Epping Council.  I have all horsey friends out searching when they are riding.  I had a couple of calls from newspaper story but did not amount to anything, I have been getting a lot of reported sighting around collier row but it is a saluki possible cross which I have tried to catch but it is terrified and the thinnest dog I have ever seen, how it survived the snow I don't know.  Have not heard anything about that one for a few days so someone else may have managed to catch and on my last call to Havering Streetcare they said they had a black and tan greyhound so could be same dog.  The problem is that one persons description may not be the same as anothers!  I think that is Rosie was in Collier Row loose she would have made her way home by now or one of our many searchers would have picked her up.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Romford Recorder 20/02/09, now available via e-edition. Rosie's story and photo is on page 19. http://www.romfordrecorder.co.uk/e-edition/Romfordrecorder/ Hi Julie, thanks for registering and posting a comment. Its so sad you have not heard anything regarding Rosie despite your searching and spreading the word. My sister works at Hainault Forest, I have alerted her and will get her to put some posters up just incase Rosie has headed that way. Also, I know from the past when they have found a dog there that the contractors that cover the dogwarden service take to either Battersea or I believe the RSPCA kennels at Waltham Abbey. I will double check the Waltham Abbey kennels and dig out the number so you can alert them. Always best, where possible, to send them a poster too - if not by email, by post - so they know what Rosie looks like incase, being a cross, someone would describe her as something else and not match up the reports. As you have said, start broadening your postering. If you've not done so already, give one to your postman, and also take to local sorting office. The posties obviously cover a large area and may notice a new dog similar to Rosie appearing somewhere. Did you get any calls from the paper appeal at all?Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

JULIE
Hi everyone, thank you so much for comments and keeping an eye out for Rosie, I have contacted all vets, rescue, PDSA, RSPCA, also neighbouring Local Authorities, been to Battersea, have e mailed picture to loads of people and asked them to forward to all their friends, have postered all local parks, outside local tesco and in local newsagents.  Unfortunately some deliquent local kids take posters down!  No dog accidents reported or dead dogs picked up from roadside in the borough so she must be somewhere although am starting to give up hope.  Will put up more posters, have tended to place them in areas where we thought she would go so will broaden.  Thanks again. Article in local paper on Friday. The e-edition isn't available yet, seems they are a bit behind, but I will post the link up as soon as it is. Sadly, still no news on Rosie. Greyhoundgalore, if you could put a couple of posters up (can download from the top of Rosie's page) and spread the word that would be really helpful and much appreciated by Rosie's owners I am sure.  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Rosie escaped out the front door late evening on Friday, about 10pm. Owners were out searching 'till the early hours and again yesterday and today but no sign - hopefully someone has taken her in over the weekend and not yet rung the authorities. Local council, kennels, battersea, vets etc contacted and owner has started putting posters up in the area too. If anyone is local, please keep on the look out for this old girl and any help with posters etc would be much appreciated! Although 13, Rosie looks and acts younger.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Owner, sorry to see Rosie is missing.  Thanks for emailing her details to DL, we will do all we can to help you in your search.  Great you have supplied a lovely photo of her.  You need to poster poster poster the area as much as possible, we cannot stress enough the importance of the postering.  Posters can be printed by selecting Dog Poster 1 just above Dog Information (you must be registered and logged in).    Contact DW's, rescues, vets and leave a poster (you can find vets in the area by clicking on the logo right hand side just underneath Latest Missing photo).  Dogs can be rehomed after 7 days, try and visit rescues do not rely on phone calls alone.   Please update us on who has been contacted i.e. DW's etc and if you have started postering.  You can leave a comment by selecting  Add a comment  just above Comments.  Good luck and hope she is found soon.  Jan xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
