Had a message from Louie's owner Mick, not long ago. Although it has been upsetting for him to read the messages everyone has left here on Louie's page, he is touched by the warmth of everyone's tribute to his beautiful golden boy.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I sent a message by email to all Scottish Rescues informing them that Louie had been in a fatal RTA on the day it happened. 11/02/09. AARC was one of them.      Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I so agree with you Sable. My husband stopped on a dual carriageway yesterday to help rescue 2 rotties and a jack russell. Others had stopped but no one other than my husband was prepared to go near the rotties. He managed to catch them though and we couldn't believe it when we found out who the owners were - the very same people who mistreated all those horses and donkeys on their farm last year. The dogs clearly didn't want to get in their car, but what could he do?  Mick - you obviously loved Louie and it is clear you would have done absolutely anything to get him back. I'm sure he knew how much he was loved. The pain WILL ease in time and you'll be able to remember all the good times you had xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I can still barely believe this has happened.Louie came so close to being caught so many times and got away. WHY did it have to end this way? There are so many lovely dogs out there whose owner's do not deserve to have them, and then there are ones like Mick who would go to the ends of the earth for their beloved pet and this is what happens. It is so unfair.I just cannot stop thinking about it all and still feel deeply upset by how it ended. Poor Louie must have been so frightened. Beautiful boy, you didn't deserve this end. I so wish he could have made it home to Mick. He worked so hard to find him, but that motorway was just somewhere that he would have had no chance of surviving. Very few dogs do survive any motorway. I will never forget the look of this bouncy, beautiful boy and how he looked so full of life. God only knows why he took off in the first place, like he did. I know he is in a happy place now at Rainbow bridge though, playing with his ball. Happy days Louie. xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Poor Handsome man, just wish he had jumped into my car and the outcome might have been so different, but he was so scared to trust a stranger and in such a dangerous place at rush hour. I wish i had known earlier he was lost would have spend more time looking instead of just two day's. I will never forget you Louie. I really prayed this wonderful, lively boy would make it home. I know there is always a slim chance when on a motorway, but for the driver not to stop is despicable. Had it been we dog lovers on this site we'd have stopped and tried to catch him, motorway or not. Have loads of fun at rainbow bridge sweetheart. You will be dearly missed love from Sylv and my boys xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Dear Mick and Family Jon an I were devastated to hear about lovely Louie today. He deserved to get home to you knowing all of your efforts to be reunited, life is SO unfair sometimes. I cannot imagine how you feel, but it's made me so so sad. It's the fear were living right now with Jacob out there, close to roads and motorways. You just hope...... We are sending you the hugest of hugs, you tried your best, you did all you could, Louie was a lucky boy to have such a caring loving family around him, he was truly blessed. Just back home, Mick is devastated and so are all other helpers.  He was on the M8 motorway near Harthill my friend had spent 2 hours searching this afternoon in the area he was last spotted and she went straight over to the motorway.  She stopped on the hard shoulder then spotted him called his name he turned and looked at her and kept on going and went on the road.  The driver that hit him did not stop, Mick has his body and he is wrapped up in his blanket.  Home at last but not the way we wanted to see.  Sleep tight goldie angel Louie x    Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

What a beautiful boy. I am so deeply upset, so I cannot imagine the grief Mick must be feeling right now. He did everything possible to get his beloved gorgeous boy home and still the odds worked out against him. I am certain that Louie was loved very, very much in his short life for sure. Happy days at Rainbow Bridge sweet boy. xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks again for that. I had found a close up of the farm where he keeps going to, on the net also. Mick was going to leave some familiar items around there last night along with food, so I will be dying to hear whether he has taken the food or if there have been signs of him being there again. It is really helpful of you to give a hand. I live nowhere near there or I would be there with you, but if you can round up anyone else, that would be great.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks Linirgor. I was hopeful that you would come across him last night, but at least we know he is in the area, and food is being left out for him in several places. Will contact Mick about the trap.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Have been out tonight looking for this boy went to the house where he was spotted last night but no luck, we walked the path with two other goldens including one who is in season but no joy.  It is a rural area and there are lots of places he could be.  Could do with more people out searching.  Louie went missing from a pet sitter who had him for the first time and he was let out of a car off a lead and he bolted.  He hasn't a clue where he is.  There is a lot of snow up there and the roads are really bad in places.  I'll go back out tomorrow night and look for him but like I said could do with more people even just to quietly walk along the road.  Louie naturally is more reserved with strangers so perhaps too many people hollering and shining torches could put him off so just a quiet walk along the road with your own dogs keeping your eyes and ears open could do the trick?Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Could the West Lothian/Lanarkshire dog wardens perhaps set a humane trap in the area for him? It would be worth the owner approaching both authorities as he is near the border of each area. I am frequently in the area as I live between Lanarkshire and West Lothian myself. Will look out for him, when driving/dog walking. Good Luck! xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I think Linirgor (below) are going out with Louie's owner tonight with their dogs to try and do just what you have suggested. Fingers crossed - we are looking for a bit of good luck now to help us all along getting this beautiful boy home with his dad. Hope the weather is ok down there because it it snowing heavily up here.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Do you think he would approach another dog? preferably one he already knows, then he might just get close enough to get a hold of. If not, perhaps you could take up linirgor's offer of help? Make sure you have some smelly food with you if you get close (pilchards or something) as he must be really hungry by now and could just be tempted to come close. It might also work if you get down on the ground and gently talk to him - it's worked in the past with other dogs. Good luck xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Have just spoken with Louie's owner and there have been more sightings of him yesterday. Whenever there is a sighting, owner Mick is in another area searching, so he seems to be the only one who has not had a sight of him yet. However, he seems to be staying within a certain small area now and locals are leaving out food for him, so, hopefully it won't be too long before he gives in and goes to someone. He is becoming a bit nervous and won't let people approach him. Does anyone know of a large dog cage that could be borrowed? If so please call Louie's owner on the number on his poster. 07775 740985Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Just had some good news from owner a few minutes ago. Louie has been spotted several times yesterday. Owner and some friend have been out searching for him in cars, and he was literally a hand's breadth away from them, but ran off before he could be caught. At least we now know that he is staying within the "triangle" of where the sightings have been and owner is just off out again now to try and pin the rascal down and catch him.Have given advice on scenting.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Have obtained further details from owner today. This dog actually lives in Polmont area, but went missing while on a visit to Harthill area about 20 miles away. There have been further sightings of him on Wednesday in the Eastfield area, and also the North Rigg road/ Blackridge area heading towards Armadale area. PLEASE look out for him. It looks like he is heading in the direction of home, north east, but owner has no idea how he would know the way home,as the area he was lost from was new to him.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I agree with Driftdog it would help to know where home was as he could be trying to make his way back there.  With the school hols I will try to take my mutts to Polkemmet Country Park on Monday (hopefully he will be home by then!), I think this is nearest country park to Harthill, although dont think your allowed to poster there but I can keep a look out.  Hope hes home soon xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
