The owner has just called to say that Duke's body has been found in a lake on the Carclew Estate, from where he went missing. The weather was bitter when he disappeared, and it is believed he went through the ice on the lake, and was unable to get out. He may also have become entangled in the many water plants growing there. His owners have searched the area continuously since the start of his disappearance, but have found nothing until today. They are grateful that at least they have closure. They can now lay Duke to rest, and grieve for him. Run free at the Bridge, sweet boy. R.I.P.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

The owner has searched extensively for Duke every day since his disappearance, the circumstances of which were, to say the least, somewhat suspicious.   We have just put out another radio appeal, to see if anyone has any information to offer.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

This is such a shame ...I do hope the owner has help searching for Duke (we have not been able to make contact) we have very many dogs missing in the SW and no co-ord in Cornwall unfortunatly..we will keep a look out for Duke though, I have cross posted his details to a very good and active forum http://itsaspringthing.co.uk/ I would suggest the owner gets on it (and others) as they may also be able to help? I just heard on Pam Spriggs BBC Radio Cornwall show 11.15pm that a Liver and White Springer Spaniel had been found at Taphouse. Pam said it was a Springer Spaniel /cross and that it had been handed over to the dog warden. It may be worth a call to BBC Radio Cornwall 01872 222222 It could be Duke. I hope so.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

As a SW co-ordinator I have only just seen Duke as missing...perhaps it first went under a different area? So I must apologise for not helping sooner ...will contact Cornish contacts and I have cross posted to springthing a spaniel forum. and it .would be good for owner to do the same if possible and ask for help there http://itsaspringthing.co.uk/ POSTER POSTER POSTER this is the most important thing you can do as awareness needs to get out there in case he has been picked up by somebody not knowing he has a home and where he came from ....contact rescues pounds DW not once several times and visit if you can or a friend as he may already be there (7 days and he could be rehomed) do not rely on a telephone conversation RESCUES/POUNDS DO MISS DOGS EVEN IF THEY ARE CHIPPED they are busy so this can and does happen.   You could try Scenting at the edges in case he is out hunting and has got lost...if you need instuctions or any help then please ask. Unfortunatly you may need to contact network rail (08457114141) and the highways authorities if you are near either of them ..  Good Luck.xx  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I'm Lizzie, Duke's owner; thanks for all your comments - Duke's nose is as you see it - we've had many comments out walking with him as it has remained very pink. He's short and stocky with big paws. He also has a fluffy tail. Both dogs left the house in the morning of the second, and when I whistled, only Bruno returned. I then left the house to whistle for him, but to no avail. This is very strange as Duke comes to the whistle before Bruno. We searched high and low, asking neighbours, and continued to search during the afternoon when the snow was falling. (When Bruno returned without his brother, his ears were down and he was a little shivery...?) He has a brown leather collar on with a metal circular tag showing his name and our numbers. He's 2 years old on 14th Feb. And he is neutered. I will keep you posted with any ather things that come to mind. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi,
The lack of dark pigment on his nose is a very distinguishing feature, sometimes the pink goes, how recent is the photo, is the nose still mainly pink?

From what I can gather, the circumstances of Duke going missing were as follows: Duke and his brother were let out on Monday morning, as they are every morning. They live on a private estate, with the garden open onto the surrounding land. They stay out about half an hour or so, coming back to the whistle. Duke is nearly always the first back, very obedient. On Monday Bruno arrived back, but Duke had disappeared. Theft can't be ruled out. Although neutered, he would have some worth as a working dog. He is a good looking spaniel, and young enough to train up as a working dog.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi,
Do we know if he has been 'walk-abouts' before or if this is a first? Any possibility of him being stolen?
