I'm so pleased to see Mabel in the blue this morning - I have been watching daily for news of her and Monty and I am thrilled for you curtainlady. Well done for your hard work and perseverence - now lets hope that Monty takes a leaf out of Mabels book.....!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks Lynn. No doubts about it - I've just asked to put a big sparkly thank you on the Sennen Cove(check it out in a few days on www.sennen-cove.com) website and also in our local mag The Landsender too. Mabel had a fab night indoors, all warm n cosy and lying, fast asleep and still is, legs akimbo, but not very lady-like, on her back. I think she's glad to be home, Tess stuck to her Mum like glue and she's eating really well so although very skinny I'm sure she'll put on the weight quickly. Off to vet tomorrow for check up and chipping - couldn't go through all this again. Thanks again to you and Sue for all your support and help inn the last two weeks. Wonderful  wonderful news.  Little minx has had a fun old time out there running free in the mild weather.  Perhaps she just did not want to go in the trap Linda!!! I am so thrilled, knew you would do it she is going to be one familiar dogs with all those local people eh?  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

HI all, THE BEST NEWS EVER!!!!!!! MABEL IS HOME She popped int a local couples garden tonight at 10pm - not the one where the trap was set. Wagged her tail and let them put a lead on her neck. They led her into their kitchen and she made friends with their dogs whilst they rang us and then walked her around to us. We met half way - Tess and Mabel (daughter and Mum) met again with lots of waggy tails and are re-united once more.  Never been so happy. We would like to say an enormous thanks to Lynn, Sue and everyone else for all your support and kindness. Our happy family is back together again Linda & Peter Snellin      Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

After several days without sightings, Mabel has popped up again very close to home. The trap has been repositioned in the area where she has been seen most recently.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi all, Sorry I haven't been in touch recently but postering like mad, writing to all the farmers in the area - 80 in all from the line below Newlyn and St Just down to Lands End. Lots of other calls etc too - circulating details of Mabel. All horsey, doggie, pet, animal etc people will be contaced locally too by the weekend. She was last seen Thursday 12th on a local farm but nothing since then. Dog trap going onto farm today and am working closely with the local dog warden this afternoon. Farmer himself is being very, very helpful as are couple of locals. Now have to be patient. Thanks for all the support. LindaLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi,
Western Power came at last, all fixed. One guy was off to a job in St. Buryan, so asked him to keep a look out for her. Unfortunately did not have power to print anything off and they were in a rush, but guy knew what a Airdale looked like.

The owner was very close to drawing Mabel in, but after such rapid progress, it is believed something spooked her, and there have been no further sightings. She may be in the same location, but lying low, or she may have moved on. When she does pop up again, the owner has asked for the trap to be used. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi,
Does owner not think a trap is a good idea? or may the food be being taken by another dog/animal.

Owners laying scents, walking their other dog, and feeding in the area where Mabel is being seen. Hopefully it is just a question of time, as she seems to be enjoying herself at present. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Owner called me this morning.  We think we are close to getting Mabel with the help of definate sightings and a couple of really great helpers.   She asked me to say on site thanks to everyone being concerned but  as Mabel is so nervous please can people give her space for the next few days.  Hopefully we will be moving her into the blue soon!!!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi,
Noted scenting instructions been sent, uncertain as to what these are, but do know about teaching scent.
Wondering, if the other dog was taken to a spot where she has been sighted and walked around a bit, then a safe route home walked, if she would follow this scent.

Great to see sightings.  I have sent owner scenting and  triangle plotting instructions.  Please do not all turn up looking for this dog, it anything is going to scare her its lots of people and dogs!!!  Owner asking people to co ordinate through her please take note of that request and  do this.  As said before Mabel is not fully socialised with dogs or people.  Help greatly appreciated but needs organising carefully through owner. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Just want to say because Mabel is soooooo timid please don't go to the area to search without me because all you'll do is scare her off. Anyone who wants to help search please co-ordinate it through myself - tel 07738100909. I won't be available for the rest of this afternoon or tomorrow afternoon but please leave message and I'll get back to you as soon as I can - obviously I'll now be walking the area as often as I can. I have the guy in the village helping too. Regards LindaLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi, Golden Retriever Rescue (dogs from Ireland) advised me that because most of them had been confined, in a large area they will circle the perimeter sticking close to the walls. I have two of theirs come to me, same owner and related. One did this constantly in my field, the younger one did not.

Poster gone up in Leedstown Post Office/Village store.
Excellent place as through traffic stops there, and the large packing shed for all the farm produce is just up the road.Tractor drivers/lorrt drivers etc. stop there for pasties and rolls.
crossroads of 4 main towns, Camborne/Helston/Penzance/Hayle. Shop never empty.

Thanks for all your help - been lucky today as we've had two sitings of her in the same area, near St Buryan. In the square drawn by B3283, Pendrea Farm (marked on maps as Westmoor), almost out to Trevedran, across to Downs Barn Farm and Boskennal. This was were we saw her race on Saturday afternoon so it's good she's in the same area. A local man has seen her twice, this morning at 10.30 ish and will keep an eye out for each time he walks his dog out there. I'll be contacting the owners of Pendrea Farm this afternoon to ask again if they can keep a careful eye out. I've been up there myself this afternoon with the local guy but no more sitings sadly but at least we know she's well and alive but looking a bit scared and frightened. I'm exhausted at the mo. so am resting until tomorrow to recharge batteries and start again tomorrow morning for a few hours before other commitments take me away again. Hi Zim, Thanks for this but she hates Liver, will only eat white meat because she's been bought up on this and dry biscuit. Totally untrained too, as only been with us for a few weeks we've taught her sit. The only other commands she knows are no, stand & steady due to showing. Couldn't raise your voise to her either beacuse she doesn't like loud noise at all. She not like a normal dog at all as she's lived in a kennel all her life so only been used to her own environment and Airedale family. Asopting her, as we have her daughter we've learnt to be kind, gentle, firm and to take things very slowly. Grateful for all your help though. Linda SnelinLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi, A word on food luring.
Linda, I know you said Mabel loves cheese and lots of dogs do, but having worked with all sorts of dogs over the years (especially nervous ones) I know that dogs go by the scent of the food before anything else. Cheese is fine when working close with your own dog, BUT for a stranger luring a dog possibly from a distance you need something with a really strong smell, and not just a small bit, but a whole handful.
Chicken does not have a lotof smell, the best is Liver, cooked and chopped up, or if people want to make liver cake with garlic, they can keep it in the freezer for future occasions when searching.
A dog will home in on lots of meat, but they usually are already aware the owner has them. Working from a distance you need something that really smells strong, or a ball for a toy orientated dog.
With a well trained dog, sometimes just calling 'sit' or 'down' from a distance, then 'stay' if the dog knows it will give it something to do that is familiar and a short space of time to get to the dog. NEVER use a firm voice or shout, take a deap breath and keep it as happy as you can.

Hi,
Is there a Cornwall Farmers anywhere near? Also kennels/groomers (especially mobile ones)/pet food delivery.
There used to be an Animal Rescue in Penzance area, think they used 'Joppa Kennels?'.
Also Anne Shaw runs Gulval Dog Training Club afraid I don't know her No. vets would have it.
Goldsithney Dog club know about Monty, The person that runs it is called Rob, he works at Hayle Jewsons, club nights are Monday and Wednesday, so you would need to telephone Tues eve. 01736 756486
There is also a breed club running at Ludgvan, again vets should know tel. No.

Thanks for all comments, I'm the owner of lost Airedale (Mabel). She was adopted from a breeder in Essex, just before Xmas, so unlikely to return there. Has been sited in and around the St. Buryan area in Cornwall, particularly Newlyn Rd, Lands End Rd and Penzance Rd. Running along the road and also in the surrounding fields. I've been very active today, she has been mentioned on BBC Radio Cornwall(from today and Pirate FM(since Sunday). Also been in contact with more farmers, National Animal Welfare Trust. Her details have also been placed on the Sennen Cove website. Loads of posters up in the surrounding areas but would appreciate any help for anyone local. Contact 07738100909 - Linda Snellin Although not a confident house dog yet she is an experience show and breeding dog and very wary but not agressive in anyway. Food is a driving force (loves cheese) and does respond to her name - especially when cheese present. She may be chipped, breeder investigating presently and will post details as soon as I know Linda Any      Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Where did the dog come from originally? Might she try to find her way back to her previous home or placement? Is she food motivated? Thinking feed station and/or trap. Amongst other useful groups, suggest owner contacts local Neighbourhood Watch groups and Horsewatch groups, they are very helpful, and good at looking out.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

DW informed as well as vets, pet shops and farmers.  This dog is not fully socialised with humans or dogs so please do not try to grab her but call owner immediately.
