I have just had a lovely phone call from this dogs owners thanking me. His name is Casper and he is 11 years old. The property has two gates which unfortunately had both been left open so Casper thought he'd go on a little adventure while his Border Collie friend stayed put, naughty boy!! He lives a few streets away from me and I'll be popping in to say hello at his owners request. He does get walked but can be very stubborn on the lead when he's had enough and I'm guessing that this is why he dug his heels in when I put a lead on him.

I've just spoken with the DW and this old boy has been picked up by his owners. I'm so happy, I can relax now.

Will see what DW says tomorrow but if his owners haven't come forward I'm going to put ads in our two local papers which come out on Thursday, that should do the trick.

I've not been able to do much today as I've been in and out of work but I managed to get some flyers through doors on the way. I'm just hoping that he's home already as I can't stand the thought of him in kennels all weekend. I should have some news on Monday at least.

This poor old boy is really worrying me. Hope you can either find his owners soon or get him out of there. Any help you need, please let me know. BarbaraLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks goldenfrodo, I'm waiting for the DW to contact me although I doubt I'll hear from him until Monday now.
Annabel, yes I thought that too but nobody around here seems to know who he belongs to, nobody at all has seen him being walked so maybe his owners are elderly too and can't walk him.
I've put some more flyers out today, also an ad in the post office, its a very small town so fingers crossed.

hello janey
This story is so so sad,,,maybe he didnt like the lead as they didnt need one? hubby can walk ours without, if he is old surely he must be from around the area,i wish you all the luck in the world with this one,the poor old man should be at home like you say, hopefully it will all turn out alright, Annabel.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi . dont beat yourself up about this. You definitely did your best. I hope his owners come forward but if he doesnt like the lead, then it doesnt look too hopeful that he was walked and that many people might know him. If you can get him out of the pound and need a donation to do it, then please let me know. I have 8 Goldens myself, (most of them Rescues) and this old boy should be nice and warm in a home. Good luck Barbara xxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi goldenfrodo, I've checked out Sams page and am almost 100% certain that the dog I found wasn't Sam, its hard to explain but the coat of the dog I found almost gave the appearance of being slightly mottled and striped towards the back end, although he's definitely a Golden Retriever.
I'm very very angry with myself, had I made myself clearer to my son this old boy wouldn't be in the pound now. I was in a hurry to get somewhere when I found him so rang my son to quickly come with a lead to take him home and told him I would go across to the vet when I got home to have him checked for a chip. My son thought he was doing me a favour and took him to the vet himself, they asked him to sign a form and that was that, my son didn't realise he'd end up in the pound. I rang the vets when I got home and they said that although they'd like to say yes, because they had already rang the DW they could only pass on my message and let the him know I was happy to look after the dog at home until his owner could be found, this hasn't happened for some reason.
This poor boys owner is around here somewhere and I am determined to find them before he is rehomed. I spoke to many people last night while out putting flyers through doors and nobody knew of this dog and I have personally never seen him out and about being walked and I have to say he didn't like the lead, when we put it on him he dug his heels in and wouldn't move.
Will update if I manage to find out who he belongs to.

That is disgusting. This couldnt be Sam could it. The 16year old Golden who just appeared to vanish in South Wales. Is there no way you can get him out of the pound? I hope so.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

This poor very old boy has been taken to the pound even though I offered to care for him in a home environment until his owner could be traced.

Made some flyers up eatleir and have been around the area putting them through doors, no call from the dog warden yet so I'm assuming this old fella is staying the night at the vets.

This elderly boy was found wandering around the Carter Street area of Goole.
At the moment he is at Vermuyden Vets on Boothferry Road where my son took him to be checked for a chip, he doesn’t have one. I have asked that he not be sent to the pound due to his age, they are waiting for a call from the local Dog Warden who will phone me and let me know if I can look after him at home until his owner can be found.
The above telephone numbers are mine, Vermuyden Vets can be contacted on 01405 763058.
