I've just come on to say well done for all your hard work Amy and all the helpers who supported you in your efforts to get your lovely Twinkle back home.  Welcome home little Twinkle, thank goodness you and little Ellie from Suffolk are safely tucked up at home again.  Love from another Pom fan! xxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hello Amy. Thank you so much for the update on dear little Twinkle. I am so pleased that she has recovered so well. What a tough little cookie she is.Give her a big hug from all of us at Doglost would you. The situation with some vets as well as some other authorities is to say the least frustrating but I will persue this issue until I get some answers. As with a lot of these scenerios , the tactics are to palm the public off with flannel in the hopes that they will give up & go away. We'll see. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hello again everyone! I thought I might aswell do a little update on how Twinkle is getting on after her ordeal. When we took her to the vet he gave her the all clear, he said that she had gained a little weight, probaly because she had been fed not such good food but could easily loose it. He also said that he believes she has been active while she hasn't been with us as her muscles hadn't wasted at all so she must have been exercised a bit. When me and my Mum told him about Twinkle's ordeal he was really quite amazed confessing that he'd heard of dogs being stolen around this area but not of any that came back. I have to say I had to bite my lip when he went on a rant about how his clinic trusted their clients and wasn't going to scan a dog unless he was supsicious of something. He was quite clear in his opinion on the matter and was anything but keen on the idea of scanning all dogs at his surgery! Well there lies part of the problem. My dad is still considering following the link to this woman who the couple bought Twinkle off but feels there is really not much point unless the legal side of it is there and the police are not likely to be interested. It is a really difficult and complicated scenario to deal with because although this woman is almost 100% likely to be aware of Twinkle being "stolen goods" how can we prove that, or more importantly find out if she has links to the dog thieves? It's terribly frustrating. At the end of the day we are just thankful we have Twinkle back and although we were pretty shocked and dissapointed at the Clacton police handling there's not much we can do about the behavior of the force unless the goverment start taking dog theft much more seriously. Until then it's just a vicious circle.. Twinkle has suprised us all at how quickly she's got back to herself, she is much more lively and cheerful now and sleeps peacefully through the night. She still seems much keener to stay close to me on walks and sleep in my room at night! My dad spent the first Saturday we had her back re-doing our back garden fencing so Twinkle won't be going on anymore adventures by herself now. I am being extra careful around and about with my dogs from now on too. Thanks again for everything Doglost. I will be sticking around here to look out for other lost dogs in my area. I've added a pic of her sleeping on the sofa back at home. Love Amy and Twinkle xxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Have been away again and have only just caught up with this fantastic news.   I'm so very glad that Twinkle is now back home where she  belongs, and I hope she's now feeling better and more settled after these few days of being back to normal.   Welcome home, Twinkle, you dear little girl.   I would like to endorse all that has been said about the police reaction in this situation, it beggars belief.    I believe Twinkle's owners were  going to look into this further as was Aunt Stef;  please let us know how you get on.   Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I would like to point out that as i said before you should not have to pay for a dog that is legally yours, been stolen and you can  prove ownership,BUT if i had lost my dog and was put in that situation i would have paid ANYTHING to get my beloved pet home, and these people know that, why are there so many dogs stolen now ? Because these NASTY PEOPLE know there is alot of money to be made from it. Its a very sad world at times, and we all need to be more vigilant.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I would like to take this opportunity to totally endorse & underline all that Jotty has said in the post below. The situation that unfolded on Wednesday evening was really quite appalling. For the legal owners of a dog to have to pay to get that dog back not only in front of police officers but in a police station whilst  the whole procedure was being controlled & dictated NOT by the police but by the receiver of the said stolen goods is quite deplorable. The lack of police action was not only disappointing but down right wrong. As Jotty has said, thankfully, things are improving with a lot of the more informed & aware police forces, who it must be said have been so professional & efficient that they deserve applause but it appears there is a long way to go to convince others that dog theft is a distressing & serious crime. I suppose if Twinkle had been a plasma screen taken from Curry's without any payment the police would have acted & the goods would have been returned to the rightful & legal owners & as has been said by Jotty & Netty, with the receiver of the stolen goods out of pocket certainly not Currys. There would also, almost definately be a prosecution. Thankfully dear Twinkle will recover from her ordeal as will her family in time but they should never have had to be put in this position. Are they not entitled to be protected by the law & the authority that should enforce it ? This is a very important & worrying question. One which I intend to take further .As a tax paying member of the public I have the right. Steph.  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Really pleased to hear Twinkle is getting back to her usual self Amy. x Netty, you are right, Amy's dad should not have had to pay to get Twinkle back. Sadly what should happen and what does often happen in reality when it comes to dogs are very different. And there lies the problem. Anyone in possession of a stray dog that has not been reported to the local council where the dog was found, as required by law, is committing an offence and could in theory be charged with theft, obtaining property by deception and/or receiving stolen goods etc. The owner may also lawfully retake the dog from that person. When we first arrived at the police station (and the people that had Twinkle insisted the handover was done there to cover their backs!!) and were chatting to the people, the man was straight away very defensive - insisting they were entitled to their money back, that they'd done nothing wrong etc etc. I did point out the legal standing which he didn't like one bit - straight away saying he could and would walk out of there with Twinkle if he was made to feel a criminal (not that me or Amy's dad would have let him go anywhere with Twinks). There was no way I was going to even vaguely jeopardise the situation for Amy's family so quickly pacified him and went along with their sob story. The Inspector had also (supposedly) told him earlier that he was entitled to recoup his money and did not just have to hand Twinkle over. You're probably getting a clear picture now about the total lack of support or action from the police. They told us the people could pass on the address they bought Twinkle from (Clacton) and Amy's dad/us could investigate (hmmmmn, who's job should that be I wonder?!). Amy's dad and myself, as well as being overjoyed to be walking out the station with Twinks, were totally angry, disappointed and shocked at the situation and lack of interest/action from the police. Yes we could have pushed the point across more, insisted no money would change hands but the most important thing for Amy's family was, totally understandably and we'd all agree and have the same priority I am sure, to get Twinkle back. I honestly think if we had pushed it, they may well have walked out the station (and the police wouldn't have cared) and when we would have stopped them in their tracks pronto, it would have been us that would have got the telling off. Its so frustrating, and so wrong that owners and dogs should have to go through this time and time again. Doglost work in collaboration with some police units and we are seeing an improvemeny and the partnerships are working and working well in those cases, but there is a lot of work still to be done across the country but we continually strive to build up such partnerships and do all we can to help with the 'bigger picture'......then you get something like this and want to scream!!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I am so pleased you have Twinkle back safe, but at a price. I was always led to believe that if your dog was micro chipped and stolen, if you found it and could prove via the chip number it was yours, then the dog would have to be returned to you, the "buyer" being the one to loose out, not you having to pay them. If you buy a second hand car in good faith and it turns out to be stolen then it is returned to the righful owner and you loose out, i know this because it happened to a friend of mine. Can someone please let me know why Twinkle had to be brought back when they were at a police station and could prove it was theirs?? My dogs are chipped and i would like to know the legal position on this matter. Thank you.  Stay safe now Twinkle, sending lots and lots of love.  xxx Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

The first 12 hours was quite hard as my poor little girl seemed really quite traumatised. She's been glued to us since she got back and she has woke up with a start several times as if to check we are still here. But today she is much less sub-dued and is getting back to her happy-go-lucky self! Her appetite is great and she enjoyed a big meal last night and lots of treats and chased Patch all around the garden. She seems to have not been groomed much as she had several matts and her nails are also very very long. We think she has put on a bit of weight too. We are taking her to the vets this afternoon to get her checked over so will update then. I am off to take her to the park now in her brand new pink harness! Love Amy and Twinkle xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hello everyone!! Thankyou so much for all your lovely comments, I can not tell you how relieved and elated I am to have my Twinkle back. If you'd told me this time last week that I'd be writing this with my girl home safe and sound I would not in a million years have believed it, it is just such an incredible feeling. Yesterday was such a happy day, I spent most of it with Twinkle in between having to go to college to do 3 exams. The sun was shining and everything in the world felt right again!! Well I'll try to make this as short as possible. If only Twinkle could talk, she has gone on such an adventure!! On Tuesday afternoon I went on the internet to do my daily scouring of the dog selling sites. I was on Epupz looking at the Pom pages when I saw an ad for a 3 yr old Pom or Chihuhua that was described as having been sold to them as a big long haired Chi only two weeks ago, but they were sure she was a Pom. They said she was up for sale as their other little dog had taken a disliking to her (which we later found out was thanks to Twinkle's bossy boots!) As soon as I clicked on the full ad and saw the big photo I knew it was her. I sat there for several seconds unable to believe my eyes, my heart racing. I then went to find my mum and told her that I thought I'd found Twinkle. Of course she didn't believe me at first but she came to look and was pretty sure it was her too. I was shaking all over and unable to contain my excitement. We had found Twinkle and she was all the way in ESSEX!! Well after several discussions over the phone that day my Mum managed to persuade this man to take Twinks to a vet to get her scanned. When my dad got home from work he talked to him, the chip having proven that we weren't scammers ourselves and he agreed to meet him at the local police station. This man was very angry and defensive about being in possesion of Twinkle and he felt himself that he had been conned out of his money as they'd paid 450 to the "woman" they got Twinkle off (who just happened to tell them she'd had Twinkle for 2 years and her name was Rosie, hmmm!) After waiting all day on Wed day having not been able to think of anything else but getting my Twinkle back we drove to Essex and met Jotty at the police station, my mum me and my bro staying in the car while they went inside. I watched this couple take Twinkle inside with them and had to control myself. After an agonising wait my dad came out with Twinks in his arms and Jo. He had paid the couple the 450 because there was just no way of getting Twinkle back otherwise. I jumped out of the car and ran to her taking her in my arms. Her little face looked so confused and scared and at first there was no recognition in her eyes. But then when I put her down to greet Patch who was going mental her little mind seemed to click, she suddenly realised it was me and Patch and leaped up at me and licked me all over my face her little bum wiggling like mad! It was so emotional and such a relief.  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi Amy, thanks for the updates and glad to hear Twinkle is settling back in well! She is lovely and a credit to you. And you worked so so hard in your search for her, as I said to you yesterday evening at the handover, it was that hard work that got your Twinks back - WELL DONE! Thank you for your lovely post of encouragement to other owners in a similar situation to that which you were in. As you know only too well, the reunited stories, the support and being able to share how you feel keeps people going through the nightmare when they are searching for their dog. Hopefully there will be lots more happy endings like yours and Twinkles! Hug to Twinkle (and Patch!).Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I just want to say a big massive THANKYOU to everyone at Doglost, I mean it from the bottom of my heart when I say I think you are an inspiration with all the hard and selfless work you do. Thankgoodness for Jayne, eh?! I do not know what I would have done without Aunt Steph's support these last few months as they have been so hard. The hope I got from reading other reunited dogs' stories really kept me my belief strong even in the really tough dark times.  To anyone who is going through this right now with a lost or stolen dog all I can say is please, NEVER EVER give up hope. Do not give in or let others dampen your belief in seeing your dog again because you have to keep going, keep doing whatever you can to actively search for your dog. It is so hard to keep your faith up sometimes especially when you do not know where your dog is, who it's with or even if they're alive. But they are out there somewhere and if you must hold onto that fact. Never give up. 8/3 - 24/6. 15 weeks and four days and now my lucky star is home!! We are going to crack open the champagne tonight. And now I'm off to give Twinks a bath. :) Amy xxxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I have returned home with my family from our little "trip" to Essex and OH MY GOD, I feel like this is all a dream. MY TWINKLE IS HOMEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!  The last few hours has been very tense, nerve-wracking and emotional. This all feels very surreal and to be perfectly honest I am still in shock. It's a long story and I am so exhausted that I will have to tell it tommorow about getting her back and how it happened but I just wanted to say that Twinkle is safe, well, and most importantly back where she belongs. She lay in my arms all the way home in the car, not wanting to be parted from me when we stopped at the gas station for a loo break. She is a little traumatised by her whole experience but is so so happy to be home, on the way back I could feel how relieved she was to be back with her family, she went all floppy and let out a sigh of relief when I held her. She has had a full meal (wolfed down!!), trotted around the house looking for her bed and her toys and food and been given loads of cuddles.   I am absoloutely over the moon and feel so so lucky. She is my lucky star. I am going to go to bed now with my ginger bear and will sleep well for the first time in months. Amy xxxxxx Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I have finished 26 letters so far, using the findanyvet website. Am sending them out tommorow and going to try and reach 50 by the end of the weekend. I didn't realise how expensive stamps where! I've covered Pullborough, Partridge Green, Littehampton, Chichester, East Grinstead, Worthing, Lancing and Hassocks vets and done most of the Billingshurst, Burgess Hill, Haywards Heath, Guildford and Shoreham vets. I've sent a poster with a large picture of Twinkle along with a letter to each vet. It is so unbelievably frustrating this situation, living in limbo, being reminded of your "absent" dog every day and not knowing where she is or who she's with. I can't just forget about Twinkle and move on, get another dog, as some people seem to think is the easiest and best thing to do because I don't WANT to, I'm not going to do that when I haven't got closure and I have to believe I will see my dog again. I'm trying to keep strong about it because otherwise the pain gets too much. Every day I hope that it's the day we get that call. My heart still jumps when I see a message on the answermachine or when the phone rings at odd times of day. I'm not religious but I find myself pleading to let god make that day come soon, bring my Twinkle home...  AmyLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

There have been no calls come through from the Countryman's Weekly article. I am going to try and get Twinkle in Dogs Today next, first by emailing Beverly Cuddy's address on her blog and then the Dogs Today help a dog/owner in need section address. I am determined to still do some active work in trying to find Twinkle. She is still my dog even if she is currently "with" someone else. If only I knew she was for certain being loved and looked after, at least then I could put my mind partially at rest. The pain is kept at bay by my determination to keep strong and put my belief in her microchip being scanned, one day, some day soon.. I am completing the first batch of letters to send off to Vets today, hoping to have done 50 by the end of the weekend. My Twinkie girl I miss you so so much, so does Patch, he hopes every day that you'll come through that door, he just can't understand how you can have taken this long a "walkie"! Life without you is so hard at times, my little ray of sun has gone out of it. I will not give up on seeing that happy face again, I love you my ginger bear. xxx  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Update: We did not have one call come in from the latest newspaper article. I am so disheartened. To feel so helpless and like you can do nothing to get your dog back is awful. I really don't know what to do. Someone out there has my dog.. knows where she is.. has seen her.. they either are the ones who stole her and are fully aware of what they did or they are not aware she was taken as they were not the person who did it. Whoever did this took my dog and along with it broke my heart. She is my dog, not theirs. She has been a part of my life ever since she was 8 weeks old. She has never been with anyone else but me. It is my memories. My photos of her. My life she was in. And now they've taken her from me, leaving only heartache. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I have not been able to replace the posters yet. What with having Twinkle in 3 different local sussex newspapers and nothing coming of it apart from false sightings that have turned out to be other dogs, I have got disheartened to be honest and so have my family. We just don't believe Twinkle can be in the West Sussex area - it seems so likely that she is further away where the media reports wouldn't have been seen by anyone. The posters were up in several areas for quite a while before they got ruined. The whole village knows of Twinkle's disappearance. This is why I wanted to get her in the Mid Sussex Times but I'm just hoping that the person we need hasn't got round to buying it yet. I have been thinking that the best place to put posters now would be at several service stations that people stop at. I think they'd need to be laminated though, so I'll have to try and get my dad to do some at work. To be honest my parents don't really believe there's any point in doing anything actively nearby with posters now... I'm the one trying to get Twinkle in the media and such, with the encouragement of my Mum. I don't drive yet so if I want to go somehere obviously one of them has to do so. I know that another dog, a Bulldog called Nettle, has gone missing recently near to Barns Green. It's owners have put posters up going through the village road - I'm going to phone them today to ask if they've found her yet. I do still walk around the local area Julie but I just know that the day Twinkle escaped she didn't go far. She never would wander any further than the next road. The ponds at Sumners Campsite take me 5 minutes to walk to. Twinkle's never gone that far before as she only ever has been away for 5/10 minute when she's escaped before. The fields nearby are mostly fenced off. If she went to the railway line, she wouldn't go any further. She has to walk down a alleyway at the bottom of our close to get to it and she has only ever gone down it once and that time she didn't go actually past the sty that's before the line. If she had got caught up somewhere, there are plenty of walkers around here - especially at weekends. Twinkle has a piercing bark that I can hear from a long way away. I just know this isn't what happened to her. Amy xx  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks for your support Julie. Your suggestion with the grooming salons is something I've thought about but Twinkle is not the type of dog that you take for clipping. Shes a spitz so has quite a thick undercoat but that is generally left alone unless you live in a country with very hot summers (when it can be stripped) but weve never once taken Twinkle to a parlour, I give her fur a trim with scissors now and then but really she hardly needs anything done at all.  I am now thinking of contacting as many vets in the surrounding areas like you said and further afield, one by one, slowly going outwards further and further. Like the owner of little Ratty the Sheltie suggested to me. Since alot of vets only have a number and post address online and not an email I think I will have to phone them asking whether I can have an email adress so I can send a big picture of Twinkle in poster format - if that doesn't work I'll post them by letter, but obviously to do that for so many vets is a big operation and will cost money... Amy, I am so sorry that I havent been on here for a while.  It was great to get a mention in the Mid Sussex Times.  I am not sure - but do Twinkles breed of dog have to have their hair clipped every few weeks ?  If so, I thought maybe it was worth ringing around some doggy grooming parlours.  She would have to be taken somewhere if this is the case, so would be good to inform them incase they see a new dog come in.  It might also be worth contacting some more vets further afield just in case Twinkle is taken in for whatever reason - again - just so that they are aware of her being stolen.  Did you manage to get new posters put up to replace the ones which had been ruined by the rain which we had ?  I can understand how frustrated you must be - but just remember - everything which you are doing is all helping towards Twinkle being fround.  I cant believe that you have not had any positive news come through with the storys which have been run in the paper.  Do you still go for walks across the fields near to where you live and the pond and railway line nearby - just incase Twinkle did wander off on her own and got caught up ?  I dont think this is the case - but it is worth just double checking if you have not already done so.I know that you mentioned that you had contacted Paul O Grady.  Have you thought about getting in touch with Meridian News - asking if they would consider broadcasting the story ?  You are doing a fantastic job in looking for Twinkle - dont give up and remain positive.  Just remember - no news is good news.  Julie XLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks so much Jan, really appreciate your help! So far no phone calls from the Mid Sussex Times article. Hoping that something will come through soon. Trying to be patient and remain positive. Someone out there KNOWS where Twinkle is. They might not know that she was stolen - but there are people out there who have seen Twinkle. She can't be that far away. Perhaps the next county... but she can't be much further. How I wish, oh I wish, it was easier to find that person who can give us the information we need. It's so frustrating. I have emailed Paul O Grady's address at Channel 4 with a plea for them to mention Twinkle on the show and show a photo of her. I know it's a longshot, because I wouldn't think Paul generally does this sort of thing, but I thought it was worth a go.. Fingers crossed it's a yes. Amy x  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Twinkle is in this weeks Mid Sussex Times - Just a small article but it has a clear picture of her and my number. I have emailed you Steph to ask for Twinkle to be bumped up again. I am hoping and praying that this will bring us that phonecall. It's been nearly 9 weeks now, which is hard to believe.. it feels like one big blur. I won't give up on Twinkle. Hope alone is getting me by. Amy xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Update: I have just had an email back from the main reporter at Mid Sussex Times, they've agreed to do an article with an appeal! Whohoo! Our phone number and a photo of Twinkle will be included. I'm guessing this will go into next weeks paper since the reporter said they'll get her in the paper as soon as they can, and this weeks edition comes out tommorow, although it may be this week. I'll make sure to find out so Twinkle's page can perhaps be bumped up again(?). Amy xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Update: Thanks for your advice and support Julie, fortunately the whole dog being picked up incident was cleared up last night as a young woman phoned me saying that she knows the dog that ended up in the road - Unfortunately it isn't Twinkle. It's the same Pomeranian that the man we asked said he knew was owned by someone at the stables not too far from Ifield Wood road, apparently it's very good at getting loose and escaping the tack room. So now we know that both these sightings were the same little dog, just not our Pom *sigh*. I am contacting the Mid Sussex Times and Brighton/Hove newspapers today like you said and try and get an appeal out. Also am thinking about trying to get Twinkle on the Paul O Grady show. I will update when I know whether Twinkle is going to be going into either paper. Knowing of Jack the lab's incredibly lucky story is definitely something that's kept my hope up - you just never know when the microchip will do it's job. I miss Twinkle so much, it's terrible not having her here and being constantly reminded of it. Me and my mum felt like crying when we were in the supermarket and I picked up a frisbee that I knew Twinkle would have loved. We continue to believe that it's only a matter of time before she's back with us but it's hard somedays to keep strong. Amy xxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Amy, I have just had another idea.  Could you maybe print some flyers off and post through the doors of the houses close to where these sightings have been near Ifield Woods.  It was just a thought - and everything has to be a worth a try. By the way Jack the lab was missing for over 2 months and your turn will come soon. Stay strong. Amy, sorry I havent been on here for a few days but things have been a bit manic.  I was hoping to see some good news of Twinkle when I logged on tonight.  However, do not give up on the possible sightings in Crawley - eventually you will get a breakthrough.  I am glad that you managed to get in the Crawley papers - that phone call could still come as people sometimes take a few days before they actually sit down and read the local paper.  Maybe you could ring the Argus, this is based down in Brighton and a daily paper.  I am sure that they would help you and this would have a wide coverage of all over the south coast.  Just to keep you positive - Jack the black lab was found just over a week ago - he was found in Basingstoke (quite a way from here), but it was his chip that finally got him back to his owner.  So dont ever give up on finding Twinkle as I am sure she will find her way back to you before long.  Like you say - the Mid Sussex Times would be a good paper to get into.  The wider the coverage, the sooner word will get round and Twinkle will be on her way home.  You really doing a wonderful job in what you are doing and I am sure that you will be rewarded in they way you want.Have you tried Radio Mercury at Crawley to do an appeal as that would definately get word out and around the Crawley/Horsham area.  Definately worth a try - especially if they know the whole story behind things. Have a go and see how you get on.  The other thing is poster as much as you can around the Crawley area, parks, bus stops and outside schools if possible as this will get seen by a large number of people in the area.  I really do hope that you have some good news soon Amy as you really do deserve it.  Stay positive and focused and remember - no news is good news.  Julie XLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

We have had only one further sighting of Twinkle from the Crawley article. A man phoned saying that he'd seen a Pomeranian like dog trot right past his vehicle down a country lane very close to the Ifield Wood road the other sighting took place on - me and my mum went to investigate this straight away as it sounded so likely to be Twinkle but it turns out that it is a Pomeranian, just not Twinkle - we showed a local man at a yard down the lane a picture of her and he said that he knew the lady that owned this "spotted" dog, but it's hers and she's had it for quite a while. That still doesn't explain this other "picked up" on the road sighting, but despite the appeal and posters we have not been contacted by anyone who can give us any further info to this, so far...  I have just created a facebook community for Twinkle and am posting the link to it on all the West Sussex groups. Please can anyone on doglost who has facebook join it and pass it on if poss? Link: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=72830458906 If nothing further comes from these two articles I am going to try and get Twinkle in the Mid Sussex Times like Julie suggested and perhaps a Brighton/Hove area newspaper towards the coast? I'm not ready to give up yet - somebody somewhere has seen Twinkle and can help get her back to us.   Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I have managed to get Twinkle into two different Crawley newspapers - got a call from a young journalist yesterday afternoon who said they've put a small piece in the Crawley Observer which came out yesterday and a bigger story is going in the Crawley Times out on Friday. So pleased that they agreed! :) Also postered lots up in Ifield on and around the road the sighting took place aswell as the Golf and Country club carpark. Fingers crossed the media coverage will bring us some further calls and confirm whether this little dog was indeed my Twinkle or not. Amy x            Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Update: The man who thought he saw Twinkle being caught in the road phoned back yesterday (well actually it was his very kind wife) and she said he had gone to the local stables but unfortunately no-one seemed to know of this woman or the dog. She said that they would look out for it and that her best advice was to try and get an article about this possible sighting asking anyone to come forward, like you suggested Julie. Well I emailed the Crawley Observer's head reporter yesterday afternoon with a plea and I gave them my phone number - so far no-one has got back to me. If we get no response to this by tommorow my dad's going to try and talk to them on the phone - he's also scanning the original WSCT article to possibly email to them as it might sway them. I am also going to go and put some posters up in the ifield/rusper area ASAP. I will update again when there is (hopefully!)  some developments with the Crawley Observer. If this dog was Twinkle, which both the man and his son were certain it culd be, then the woman who picked her up is either not aware she is missed and is keeping her or is keeping her just because she wants to. I am so so hoping we can get her in the paper because this is the only chance to get her known in the Crawley area and I won't stop untill we do!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Amy, I am sorry that the Southwater possible sighting came to nothing more positive.  This latest bit of information near Rusper sounds as if it could be more hopeful.  I think if you are able to get in touch with the Crawley paper (Crawley Observer) asap - it would be so good to get a story in  there ........ as this paper would be sold all over Crawley/Rusper and that way if someone did pick up Twinkle then they would see the story and maybe come forward - and if not - someone who lives local to them and sees a new dog like Twinkle in a neighbours home would more likely than not get in touch. I really do hope that this man gets back to you with some good news as you really do deserve it.  Stay positive and I am sure Twinkle will be home where she belongs soon.  Please update once you have heard back from this man - and also let us know if you are able to get in the Crawley paper.  If it helps - the Crawley Observer comes our on a Wednesday, so if you could get in touch tomorrow (Monday) then there is a high chance you may even get in there this week.  You are doing a wonderful job and I hope that you get the news you are waiting for very soon. Update: There has been no more sightings reported of Twinkle in the Southwater area. The more I think about this man's description of the dog, the more I come to believe it's not Twinkle. The first thing he asked me was whether my dog had a collar on when it dissappeared as the dog he saw had a blue collar on and a tag also. Well unless this collar was far too big for Twinkle, he wouldn't be able to see it as she has such a furry mane around her neck that her collar just dissappears in it! You have to be very very close to her to be able to see even a tiny bit of colour. Also because of the media coverage and Southwater being so close to Barns Green, you would think that someone else would have seen her and put 2&2 together.. I have however had another phone call from a different man reporting ANOTHER POSSIBLE SIGHTING He said that he had witnessed an incident earlier this week on a country road - he didn't know the name of it but he said it was next to Ifield Wood, which is near to Rusper village (about 10 minutes away from Horsham). There was a loose dog just standing the middle of this road, almost as if it was lost, and several cars had to stop because of it. He said that a young woman in equestrian uniform got out of her car and attempted to catch the dog, she managed to pick it up and she then drove off with it. Now he said that he himself was about 40 yards away from the dog so he wasn't as close as to be 100% sure it was Twinkle but he said that it was exactly the same color and that he was utterly convinced it could be my dog. He told me that his best bet was that this dog had been dumped and that if it was mine it was because of the media coverage or because they'd realised Twinkle's deaf. He said that he knew the Ifield area well as he lived there and that there was a stables very near to where this happened and that he would try and help find something out for me by going to ask whether any of the girls there knew anything this weekend. Well now I'm just waiting for him to call back, hopefully with some information.. I'm planning to get my dad to drive me to the area and put some posters up. Obviously if this dog WAS Twinkle the woman hasn't handed her in to the local dog warden or taking her to the vet as we would know about it by now. So that would mean she was keeping her, which means we're on a blindfolded hunt again.. Amy xxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

There has been a POSSIBLE SIGHTING of Twinkle in the area near Southwater Country Park. Someone had seen the article about Twinkle in the paper & called her owner. This sighting was sometime in the last week. The dog was wearing a collar ,Twinkle had no collar on when she went missing so it could be that ,if this dog is Twinkle, she had been taken & has now escaped or been dumped as being too hot to handle.More posters are going up in this area as well as DW , vets etc informed.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Amy, don't ever give up hope of finding Twinkle.  You only have to read some of the stories on the reunited page to see that sometimes after several months dogs are reunited with their owners.  Like you say, Twinkle is chipped - and I am sure that day will come for you too.  The West Sussex County Times covers Horsham, Broadbridge Heath, Southwater, Warnham, Billingshurst, Rudgwick, Rusper, Colgate, Pease Pottage and other local areas to Horsham.  It would be good if you could ring the Crawley Observer on 01293 845055.  I think this number takes you straight through to the newsdesk.  This paper is the same newspaper group as the WSCT but just a different area.  This would cover all of Crawley, Gatwick, Horley, Charlwood and maybe a few more.  You could also try the Mid Sussex Times on 01444 416611.  This number takes you straight through to the reporters.  This paper covers Haywards Heath and surrounding areas.  It is definately worth a try.  Let me know how you go on.  Thats me off to lunch now to see what damage the puppy has done today lol.  I will check again later to see how you have got on.  It will all be worth it in the end Amy - just continue to be positive as you are doing a grand job. Oh just forgot: Thanks for letting me know about the posters Julie, I thought they might have run what with the rain. I didn't put tape on the bottom of those ones but I will replace them as soon as I can. I'll have to get my dad to drive me there, it's not far. I've put some more up in the village with tape to stop them getting wet but unfortunately the village idiots (a nasty group of teenage boys) have ripped them all down. I have given up putting them up because the last two I put up outside the shop they removed and I'm 100% certain it's them as they have something against me and my brother. I can't believe how many horrible people there are in this world these days... what have I ever done to them. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks very much for the kind words Jan. Wow, Liverpool? That's a fair way away! I'm so pleased that the word of Twinkle is being successfully spread. I don't know what I'd do without your wonderful people! Julie: There has been no word from anybody regarding the article (yet..). Not one call. I of course am starting to feel desperate because I got my hopes up with this, which I guess I shouldn't have done because each time I do I'm setting myself up for being disheartened again. I am pleased that I got such a main page article, it means everyone who read the paper will have seen Twinkle's picture. I am a little confused as to whether this issue of the County Times goes out to the whole of West Sussex or JUST Horsham. Don't the neighboring towns like Crawley have their own paper? I somehow thought that it would go out to all of WS county which of course would have been brilliant but unfortunately I think it only is sold in Horsham as it says Horsham on the front of the paper. I could always try to get an aritcle on her in some of the other papers but it might be a bit difficult as we live in Horsham and they give priority to their own local news. About the Billingshurst traveller site - no I haven't found anything out about it. I read the article you were talking about in the last edition of the WSCT newspaper and I'm pretty sure these people are a different lot to the ones who are on the site near us (close to billingshurst). They live in grounded caravans that aren't used on the road and it's a permanent address. Of course there is a chance they took Twinkle but if they did they would have sold her on by now and as I said I already went to talk to some of the people that live facing the site and none of them had seen Twinkle. Thanks very much for checking the listings of dogs for sale everyday, I have been doing my best to check myself but having another pair of eyes looking out for her gives me piece of mind so thanks so much. It is getting increasingly hard to be patient when we just don't seem to be getting anywhere but I have to keep reminding myself that she's chipped and that she should be scanned.. somehow..someday. It's a matter of time. That's the only thing keeping me from despair because I miss her so so much and life is not the same without her. I pray everyday for that phonecall, lets hope it comes soon... Amy, You have done really well getting your story into the county times.  It was a really good write up and was in a really good position in the paper for all to see. Have you had any news at all from anyone having read the story ?  If someone reading the story - who has any idea where Twinkle is - would get you the all important phone call which you so desperately need.  I have noticed a couple of your posters today, on the tree at Newbridge Nursery, also along that road on the lampost up towards the roundabout and also outside the BBH village shop - the rain has got into the posters and all the writing has run.  Not sure if possible for you to replace.  Did you manage to find out anything about the travellers site at Billingshurst - that they havent picked Twinkle up ?  I so hope that you get some news soon.  You really do deserve it. Never give up hope though, as no news is possible good news.  I have been getting the Oddle Alerts daily emailed to me for any dogs that are for sale in this area.  I check each day to make sure that your Twinkle and Jack the black lab arent on there.  I hope each time that I log on there is some positive news for you ...... that day has surely got to come very soon.  One thing that you can be certain of - is that you are doing everything possible to find your little girl and I just so hope that you are reunited very soon.  Julie XLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Update: Finally managed to speak to the RSPCA on Tuesday. The dog that was reported to them in Barns Green turns out to be the same dog that we were told about through the Village shop two weeks ago!! It was the little JRT type dog, but the person who found it (someone walking through the farm) hadn't been very throrough with their description of it. The RSPCA only knew about Twinkle because I sent an email to  DTA  with her story and details and their secretary kindly sent Twinkle's information out to various organisations for me. This was only early last week so when the RSPCA logged Twinkle's report they obviously checked to see whether there had been any reports recently logged of a dog that could match her description on their database. Because this JRT was found in Barns Green they thought it would be worth contacting us so we could follow it up, but we'd already done that. So it definitely wasn't Twinkle unfortunately. I do however have some good news: I manage to persuade the West Sussex County Times to do an article on Twinkle and it's going in next weeks paper!! (out on Friday, tommorow). I was so suprised at how quickly they got back to me, I emailed my story to the main news reporter and they got back to me almost instantly to say they'd like to do a piece on her!! They even sent a photographer round to take a picture of me to go alongside the story and Twinkle's picture. I hope this means Twinkle can be bumped up tommorow(?) so she doesn't dissapear off the system. Fingers crossed this brings us the information I've been praying for, eh!!! xxx Amy    Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Amy, Firstly can I say I am sorry for not being on here for a few days, however, life has been a little hectic.  I am glad that you have had some possible news of Twinkle.  Please make sure that you keep on with this possible lead as although you dont have much to go on - any possible new lead is good.  I was reading the County Times earlier today and I was reading about the traveller site which is still out at Billingshurst.  How far away is this from where you are ?  I dont know how you go about going and checking out these sites - as I would be a bit apprehensive about visiting them myself - could you maybe phone the police to maybe go along with you ?  It would be worth checking out.  I have also noticed on Doglost tonight that there are 2 labs gone missing from Wisborough Green - is this near you as I think it is quite close to Billingshurst ?  There just seems a lot of dogs missing in this area all of a sudden.  So is there a traveller site in  Barns Green ?  Did you have any luck in phoning the County Times this week ?  Do try and contact the RSPCA again on Sunday - I have found a number on the internet for you -  0870 010 1181.  In case this does not work there is also a mobile number for an inspector called Jodie Moss 07825 158681.  I would also give that a ring if you get no luck with the offices. Do stay positive as I am sure that you will get the news which you are waiting for soon. I dont know how you go about getting Twinkles page to the top again - it is on page 8 now so may disappear soon.  Can you ring one of the Doglost team and ask them if they can bump her to the top again - especially after this new possible sighting ?  We want people to still be able to see her page - I am sure if you ask they will be able to do for you.  Please let us have any news or updates which you may have and I will check in again tomorrow to see how you have got on. Take care, be strong and stay positive - Julie X     Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Well me and my mum headed straight there and guess what: we couldn't find anything out. The woman who lives in the farm house and is the owner of the campsite (who is actively looking out for Twinkle in the area herself) says that it was not her - we went to the other farmhouse which is privately owned right at the entrance to the farm and the woman who lived there said she was nothing to do with it either. So, we're left not knowing who this person is that reported Twinkle or why they would call the RSPCA about a dog they saw either wandering around (and they didn't try and catch it) or with someone else. Unfortunately because we came home so late the RSPCA offices are now closed so I have to wait till tommorow to phone them back when they'll hopefully be open as it's the weekend now. I'm really quite frustrated with them because the message the woman left was so sketchy - she only described the dog as small with ginger ears (not ginger all over, which makes us supicious since Twinkle is ginger all over) but I guess that's all she knew - she didn't even say who it was that left the message which leaves us slightly suspicous because if it wasn't anyone who lives on the Campsite/Farm who was it? It means it's either a hoaxer or someone who was walking in the area early this morning (or possibly on Thursday, she didn't tell us when the sighting took place either!) This is confusing and mysterious to say the least. I can't believe this woman didn't tell me/know the circumstances in which this little dog was sighted. If we knew who it was who reported it, we might be able to find them and show them her picture but obviously it's not going to be that straightforward!! I'm not getting my hopes up too much but my heart skipped a beat when I heard her say the word RSPCA on the answer machine. I thought they had Twinkle and had scanned her, which obviously was very dissapointing. I can't help wondering whether this IS Twinkle but the description is not precise enough for us to make any conclusions.. We're going to have to try and find out more tommorow. I'd just like to say that the travellers site is apparently very near the campsite - almost right next to it. If this is Twinkle, she's either escaped them and is roaming at large (and hasn't been caught by anyone all day which seems pretty unlikely) or was seen with her captor or new owner in the area walking early this morning (and perhaps someone's trying to report her being stolen without having to come directly to us and be known?) I just don't know. It's not making much sense at the moment but please is there any chance Twinkle could be bumped up to the top again because of this? Thanks. There has been a POSSIBLE sighting of Twinkle again in the Somners Pond Campsite area. Today we came home late and I noticed there was 1 message on the answermachine. It happened to be from a woman at the RSPCA horsham headquarters who had left a message at nearly 9 o clock this morning. She said that they have had a possible sighting reported to them of Twinkle at Slaughterford Farm which is the farm that you enter to get onto the Somners Ponds campsite, the whole area is technically Slaughterford Farm as it encompasses a large area of farmland/woodland and ponds. The details are sketchy to say the least: the woman said that she couldn't give us any more information other than someone had reported a small dog with ginger-coloured ears that might just fit the description of Twinkle I left with the RSPCA. She didn't even say the context this was in, whether the dog was reported alone or with a person (which I doubt because this would mean they were reporting the dog as possibly Twinkle having seen her posters and I got the impression this person did not know of Twinkle) but just that someone had seen a dog and that it was at Slaughtford Farm which is in Barns Green so it's obviously worth going to have a look and see what else you can find out through the people that live on site.  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Oh I forgot to say about that Julie - the first thing the lady said is that the posters she'd seen had run because I'd accidently put several in the plastic sheets the wrong way and the rain had ruined them. She said how she could barely make out our phone number but she found one that was just about readable. I am guessing she was passing through the village and parked outside the village shop. I think the village hooligans have been ripping the plastic sheets so they can get wet. Anyway I get your point about her asking about doglost - I didn't quite understand why she would be asking me this but I assumed that the poster she read to get our number had that part of the text ruined - she did seem 100% genuine, like an older lady who has dogs herself who just wanted to help. Unfortunately I didn't manage to get her number off her as she seemed in a hurry and had obviously saved our number on her mobile so she could ring it back. I don't know why she hasn't got back to me though yet, perhaps she can't find this womans number. I am planning to put some more posters up and replace the ones that have run - don't know if it's really worth it as nothing in the village has come from them but I don't want people to forget about Twinkle being missing so. I might change the heading to stolen. I have been reading the recently reunited page and yes there have been some long-timers going into the blue. Reading those is keeping my hope alive. Amy, I am glad that you are going to ring the paper on Monday.  I am sure they will want to help you.  I think that you should ring that Gypsy number which you mentioned - everything is worth a try.  I am a little confused though about the phone call which you received.  Hopefully it is someone trying to help, however, if they got your number from the posters they would have seen Doglost mentioned on it, so I am curious as to why they asked you if you were registered ?  Did you manage to get the telephone number of this woman ?  I think you need to keep an open mind about this as there could well be more to it.  Maybe it is me and I am reading too much into it - but you just cant be too sure.  I hope that you have looked at the reunited pages the last couple of days - there are a couple of dogs on there which had been missing for many months and they have just been reunited - let this keep you positive.  Have you thought about the posters now being changed from 'MISSING' to 'STOLEN' ?  Lets hope that there is some good news soon and your little girl is back home with you where she belongs.  Julie XLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks very much for your help Julie - I'm going to do just that, try and talk to Gary Shipton on Monday. Steph suggested going to the Horsham police station instead of phoning them but my dad won't do this unforunately. He's promised to phone them on Monday though and try and get a crime number and say about the Lab being stolen only a few doors away. I know that we have no proof Twinkle's been stolen but it's really the only conclusion that makes any sense. I'm phoning the microchip company to see whether they can change Twinkle's status to stolen as we tried to change her details on their online database but there's no box in which to put this info in. I put gypsy/traveller sites into Google and the West Sussex County Council website service page and there is a number for Gypsy sites - does anybody think it would be worth calling this or would it be pointless? A woman phoned me on Friday afternoon shortly after I talked to Steph who had got our number from one of the posters - she was keen to ask me whether I had registered Twinkle's details with doglost and she then went onto say was I aware of travellers stealing dogs in the rural areas - I said yes to both and she told me that she knew of a woman that lives on the coast in the Littlehampton area who has some kind of inside knowledge and sight into the people who often take dogs - she said that one year she managed to recover and reunite 74 dogs! Unfortunately she didn't have her number or contact details with her and she said she'd have to try and find them - she said she'd call me back when she found them. However I haven't heard back from her yet and I'm hoping she will phone back as she said this lady would be likely to help. I'm sure she was genuine and not a hoaxer. Fingers crossed!!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Amy, I am sorry that the lead with the campsite turned out nothing to do with Twinkle.  Whatever you do dont ever give up hope of finding her, she is out there somewhere waiting for you to find her.  With regards to the County Times, I would juist ring and speak to them instead.  The background to the story of Twinkle coming over here to live and now having been stolen etc would make a good story for them and even better get Twinkle in the limelight again.  I think that you should ring and ask to speak with Gary Shipton who is the Editor of the newspaper.  If they will not let you speak with him ask to speak to the Deputy Editor and then if not someone in the Editorial Department.  If you still get nowhere then write in person to Gary Shipton with a heartbreaking plea.  I am sure that they will help you.  You could also ring and speak to the Evening Argus at Brighton, this paper is delivered all over the South Coast.  Let me know if you need a telephone number and I will find it for you.  You could also ring the Crawley Observer (this is a sister paper to the County Times).  This is delivered all over Crawley and surrounding areas.  Again, let me know if you would like me to find a telephone number for you as this would also be a good paper to get in.  Twinkle is out there somewhere and we will find her what ever it takes.  As far as the Travellers Unit is concerned, I am really not sure what it is.  However, at a guess I would think it is something to do with the council, hopefully someone else will be able to help us with this.  I hope that your Dad is having some luck in phoning the Police tonight.  My thoughts are with you Amy, please stay stong and remain positive.  Dont forget to let me know if you need any help with the telephone numbers for the newspapers.  Take Care. Update: The possible lead with the found stray dog at the campsite turns out to not be Twinkle - it was a Jack Russell. Spoke to the people who work at Sumners Ponds yesterday and they said it sadly was not the Pomeranian dog on the posters. My heart sank at hearing this, we really thought this would be an a trail to Twinkle! So now we're back at square one. I don't want to give up searching, but there's not much we can do - I've thought of emailing a picture of Twinkle to all the vets in the West Sussex area but alot of them don't have emails on their contact details - My dad suggested writing a short letter to the County Times and making a formal plea to ask whether they would do a short story on Twinkle's dissapearance as they did one recently for Jack the stolen and sadly still missing Lab. Our story with Twinkle is not ordinary to say the least - we bought here in America as we lived there for 6 months due to my dads job - unforunately we had to come back unplanned because of my illness and my parents wanted me treated over here - so Twinkle and our Papillon Patch had to go into quarantine for 6 months. It would be really good if we could get an article as it would catch peoples attention. Nearly 3 weeks and still nothing. I am having to resign to the fact that Twinkle has probaly been stolen and that she is not in the immediate area (e.g Horsham, Barns Green, Southwater) as she would have been noticed or given up by now what with the posters. If she's further afield it means we have less of a chance of getting her back in the short term - the only thing that could get her back to us is her microchip. I'm not giving up hope but it could be months before she is taken to a vet.. and I just don't know what to do. I am getting so disheartened and my other dog is very lonely by himself. Does anybody have any other ideas or suggestions? Is there any other sources of media I could contact? I saw another recently lost dog on here (amber - jack russel) who's owner said that she contacted the "travellers unit" - what is this and should I contact it? My dad still hasn't phoned the police but I'm going to try and get him to do so this evening. AmyxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks Julie - My dad still hasn't got round to phoning the police yet actually - as far as these "travellers" my brother and his friend are talking about, they are a group of people who live in Caravans towards Billingshurst and we don't really have any proof that these are the people who stole the lab - I don't think they are as they pretty much stay put here in the area - I still haven't asked the lady who told me of her neighbors dog being stolen yet as she's not always at home in the afternoon but I'm going to try again today. Late yesterday we actually got the first piece of information that could be solidly to do with Twinkle's dissapearance - my brother was in the village shop and one of the girls who works in there told him how she had been trying to call us (we'd been out) to say that a lady had come into the shop and when she'd seen Twinkle's poster told her how she knew of a dog that had been found around Somner's Pond (the campsite 5 minutes walk from our house) around two weeks ago and that the person or people who found it said to (I presume) someone at the campsite that they'd take it to the "dog pound". These details are a little hazy as we heard this through my brother and the girl obviously was nothing to do with it - we have no idea who this woman is who knew about a dog and whether anybody who works at the campsite has any information - we are going to try and talk to the girl this afternoon or her family as she is the daughter of the people who own the shop - and also inquire at Sumners Ponds. I'm very frustrated this information didn't get passed to us sooner - I can only assume this woman is not a regular to the shop or perhaps she doesn't even live here - she's obviously missed the posters for over 2 weeks otherwise! We are going to try and find out if anybody knows what the dog looked like as it's very very likely to be Twinkle - the woman was adamant it was on Sunday the exact day Twinkle dissapeared. It seems that she HAS been stolen and that these people that took her did not have any intention of taking her to the pound otherwise her chip would have brought her back to us by now!   I will update again later - I so hope we can find someone who is able to confirm it was Twinkle and whether her finders where staying at the campsite or just vistors/walkers to the area. This has got to lead us on to something!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Amy, some positive news at last.  Are the travellers still in the area ?  This does sound a big possibility and like you say - the good thing is Twinkle is mocrochipped.  Did your Dad have any luck with the police when he rang them ?  I would think if travellers stole a little dog like Twinkle they would sell her on pretty quickly, therefore, it is possible that she is still quite local to Barns Green.  I am glad that you are feeling more positive, because until you hear anything negative about Twinkle - being positive is the only way forward.  There are so many dogs which are stolen and eventually reunited with their owners and I am sure that even if it isnt this week or next - your time to be reunited with Twinkle will come eventually.  You certainly deserve it as you are trying so very hard to find her.  I haven't been online for a few days as we have just brought an 8 week old little puppy - so my time has been rather hectic to say the least, however, things have settled down slightly so I will be online daily again to check out Twinkles update and to also carry on giving you all the moral support which I can.  Please let us know how your Dad got on and I hope to see some real good news very soon.  Take Care Julie XLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Don't apoligise Julie, thanks for checking her when you can and supporting me - I've gone through periods of feeling really quite distressed the last few days - it's an emotional roller coaster this. I've never cried so reguarly in my life! Me and my dad went out on Saturday and postered further afield - we went to Warnham and put one up at their village green near Jack the labs stolen poster - and on the bus shelter - also around the roads surrounding Barns Green and Southwater. Put a poster on the south downs way. The railway track is so long I can't really see all the way down it - we've gone to both crossings and also the South Railway line left me a message the week before last saying that they'd look out for her and so far nothing so I don't really believe Twinkle's dissapearance is involved with a train. Also, when she was about a year and a half she almost drowned in Horsham Park pond after falling in being over-adventurous and since then she's been very careful near deep water. I've actually got some potentially positive news - I took Patch out for a walk to the green yesterday afternoon and I talked to one of my neighbors on the way (road to the left of our little close, very near) - she asked me if there was any good news and I said no. She then went on to tell me about how her next door neighbors had their 6th month old female Chocolate Lab stolen by "travellers" last year from their front garden in broad daylight - apparently they were in a car/van and after opening the actual gate to the fenced front of the house took her out and drove off with her. They did not find her for 5 months by which time they were giving up hope - turns out she was sold to a lady who bought her in "good" faith and when she took her to the vets the vet scanned her and thanks to her microchip, she was reunited with them. I don't know how far away she was from where she was taken but I think it was quite a way away. I'm trying not to get my hopes up but the woman who told me agreed with me that it seems increasingly likely that Twinkle was taken because she just vanished with out a trace - and given that it was a gloomy cloudy Sunday and everywhere was very quiet she could have been taken easily.  When I came home and told my parents this my brother said that there is a group of people they consider "travellers" that live in the nearby area in caravans. I'm not quite sure whether they found out who took the lab, I'm guessing not - but I will try to speak with the lady again today to ask her. She said they're people that wouldn't stay in the immediate area - they do "travel" round. Because of this my dad is now agreeing to phone the police this afternoon and report Twinkle possibly stolen. This has made me more positive because if Twinkle had been taken by people like this that means she's alive and will hopefully be sold on by them - and she's microchipped, thankgod. I'll update with what the police say later!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Amy, I am so very sorry that you still have no news of Twinkle.  I am sorry that I have not been on here for a couple of days but have been so busy.  If Twinkle has been taken - which I think is most likely - the person who has her will not be able to keep her hidden forever.  People will notice a new dog and then with seeing your posters will hopefully put 2 and 2 together and you will hopefully get the phone call which you are waiting for.  I so hope that day comes soon for you.  I mentioned before - have you looked at the ponds again and along the railway line ?  There are some dogs which are stolen and then eventually maybe 2/3/4 or 5 weeks down the line they are reunited with their owners (this will keep you positive).  It just takes one person to see something and that is when you will get the news which you are waiting for.  Just try to get through this (what must be) awful time by trying to think to yourself that whoever has Twinkle would be looking after her - or there would have been no point taking her in the first place.  I am sorry that you havent been well and the last thing you would have needed is what is happening right now.  Try and keep postering as much as you can - that is important - make Twinkle too hot to handle and hopefully she will be back home with you again soon. Nobody deserves to go through what you are with a missing dog, I dont know what goes through these peoples minds and more than that how they can live with themselves knowing that they have taken someones loving pet.  Hoping for some good news about Twinkle very soon.  Julie XLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I am so angry that somebody can have done this to me and more importantly Twinkle. How could a person be so thoughtless, ignorant, selfish, horrible? They have no idea what pain they're causing someone. I wish I could have a crystal ball to see where Twinkle is, but I don't. When you steal a dog you're stealing part of someone's family, it's no different to taking a child... Not knowing where Twinkle is, who she's with and whether she's being looked after properly is killing me inside. I feel helpless and every day I'm struggling to focus on other things like my college work because all I can think about is my dog. She's in my dreams every night. I wish I could put posters up everywhere in West Sussex, but this area is huge and it's just not possible. On a weekend it's possible someone driving through the village is going as far as Petworth or further... Twinkle's ad is no longer in the County Times and they won't agree to do a story on her even though it's likely she's been stolen. I'm at a complete loss of what to do. I wish this nightmare could be over. :'(Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Still no news. It's going to be 2 weeks on Sunday with not one piece of information coming from anyone... it really feels like Twinkle vanished into thin air the day she went missing. I'm so infuriated that not one person in the village saw anything.. if they had done, wouldn't anybody decent come forward? I don't really know many people well here but I'm considering going and knocking on peoples doors tommorow - not that I belive it will prove anything but fruitless. Julie - I don't really have any friends that can take me out in a car - I've suffered from M.E (chronic fatigue syndrome) and have only in the last year been able to get back into education and go to college. I've only really got my dad who can help me. We postered Horsham Park, BBH Garden Center (on the exit), Southwater Country Park Notice Board, several posts in Southwater where people walk, the Village Green, Pets At Home, Arthur Lodge Vet, Farthings Vet, Hilliers Pet Shop... I've phoned the dog warden 3 times, RSPCA, Dogs Trust in Brighton, Burgess Hill rescue, Crawley Dog warden... nobody and nothing has come of it. I just don't know what to believe. My heart says Twinkle is alive and was taken, I really feel that in my gut.. but unless someone sees the posters, sees someone with Twinkle, puts 2+2 together and actually bothers to phone the number it could be months before we get that call.. the microchip seems to be the only thing putting my hopes on. Words can not describe how much I want somebody to tell me something, anything about what's happened to her. I just feel numb. Has there ever been cases like this where the dogs disappeared and not one person has contacted or said anything - and the dog still has come back in the end? I can't face never knowing what happened to Twinkle. Please. :(Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Amy,  It sounds as if you have been hard at work again with posters.  You are certainly doing the right thing.  I only wish I were able to help more, but as I said before I work full time and long hours.  Do you have any friends that are able to go out with you to help poster etc. ?  My husband and I went down to then Dog Trust at Shoreham on Sunday and there were no small dogs like Twinkle - in fact there were no small dogs at all. I agree with you totally in the fact that if someone has taken Twinkle - how can they possibly live day to day knowing that they have caused utter distress and upset to a family.  I would really try and get your Dad to speak with then police and report her stolen.  Also, have you been for more walks by the ponds and railway line in Barns Green - just to double check that out ?  I still look out for Twinkle to and from my journeys back to work at BBH and will continue to do so.  Although, I believe that if someone has taken her locally, I dont think they would be walking the streets with her yet - especially with all the posters and advert in the paper.  I saw the advert in the Horsham Advertiser again tonight and also on the lampost outside the BBH village stores - along with stolen dog Jack.  I hope for you and your familys sake and little Twinkle that there is some hopeful news soon.  As always remain positive and just try to think that she will be home with you again soon. Oh just forget to say I emailed all dog lost members in the RH13 area thanks to the list Jayne gave me on Monday - one of them got back to me saying she was a Postie and has put her poster up at the headquarters - thanks a ton Sharon! Update: We have had no news today - Put a poster up at Sainsbury's notice board earlier and tried to put one up at Tescos but there is no pin up board anymore and I knew there was no use in asking whether they'd agree to put it up at the front. Also posted one at Horsham Pets Pet shop at Hilliers Garden Center, gone in the front window and Pets At Home in town. Have contacted Crawley Dog Warden and left details of Twinkle with them, also phoned Arthur Lodge Vets and registered here in the lost dog files. Am having trouble going further afield to put posters up or go to futher vets as my Mum is not very well at the moment and can't drive far in the car due to muscle pain and my Dad has a very busy job. They can't drive me to the nearest Rescue centers as apart from the one in Burgess Hill that has Twinkle's details the nearest one is Dogs Trust and RSPCA in Brighton and it's just too far to go on a week day. I am finding it very hard knowing nothing of Twinkle - we have not had one piece of information given to us and although I am telling myself that it takes time and all my family now believe Twinkle has been taken by someone possibly driving through the village the fact that not one bloody person witnessed anything on that Sunday noon is so frustrating. I am being eaten up by the not knowing and every day Twinkle is in my dreams - just seeing someone with a lead is enough to get my heart jumping. I don't know how anyone could take a little loving dog like Twinkle who looks so well looked after and not be consumed by the guilt of not attempting to find who she belongs to - it's just incredulous to me - I am just holding onto the idea that the person who has her or someone who knows they've seen Twinkle will contact us through the posters - to think that Twinkle could end up at a Vet with the person who took her and then not be scanned just makes me feel so angry inside - microchips are meant to help get a dog back to it's owner not be ignored for fear of offending or lack of good practice!! I miss Twinkle so much - it's awful not having her here. I refuse to believe I won't get her back - reading the other stories of dogs being reunited after several long weeks, months of even years is keeping me going. I hope my patience and the pain pays off. Amy xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Amy, I am glad that you are feeling more positive about things today.  Something good will come of this soon I am sure.  I am at work now, however, just read your post.  You mentioned that you were going to poster up by the large Tesco at BBH.  It is just a thought - but - you know that you get an awful lot of cars in a queue waiting to get out of Tesco's, just past the garage on the way up to the main exit of Tesco, is there a tree or post that you could put a poster ?  That way as people are waiting to get out they will probably read it.  This would be good as people come from all around the area to shop at Tesco BBH. I should get on with a bit more work now, but I continue to watch little Twinkles page.  Julie X  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks very much everyone for your strong thoughts - I am feeling much more positive today because of you all.  Jayne Hayes phoned me after seeing my upset post yesterday afternoon and told me about her lost Frenchie story - ridiculous and remarkable at the same time - can't believe how they managed to get him/her back after five weeks, she was 30 miles away and it was all thanks to a tip off from someone (poster power!). This aswell as the fact that Jayne said how the average time for a dog to be returned to be found/returned to it's owner is two and a half weeks has given me hope that Twinkle is out there and someone or something will happen soon. I am posting a poster to the Post Office Headquarters today as Jayne suggested it aswell as putting one up in the big Tescos next to the BBH roundabout and Sainsburys Horsham too. Also going to put more posters up around the surrounding roads and at Warnham Vets. I still haven't managed to persuade my dad to phone the police for a crime referrence as he doesn't believe they'll accept Twinkle as stolen but now it's been a week and there has been no reports whatsoever I think the probality is much higher and therefore it's perfectly possible. I will ask him this evening if he will phone them just for the sake of it - it's worth a try. I really feel that Twinkle's dissapearance has something to do with a fellow human being and that whoever she's been taken by they will be looking after her - I'm trying to think positive thoughts and telling myself that it's only a matter of time. Thankyou for making me aware of Monty's story - I'm crossing my fingers and toes that something similar has happened to my Twinkle and she'll be in the blue where she belongs soon! Please don't give up on Twinkle being found.  Like Sable - I really do think someone has taken her in and probably not far from you either.  They will not be able to hide her forever.  There have been lots of stories in the reunited section where stolen dogs have not been far away and have been found sometimes 2/3 weeks later.  I am glad that you managed to get the posters up in the surrounding area - this as well as the paper has to bring some news soon.  You have to keep looking for her like it is day 1, be positive in thought and I am sure something will come up soon.  Did you manage to get your Dad to contact the police and resport Twinkle as a very possible stolen dog ?  Still would be a good thing for him to do so.  Every day when I check out Twinkles page I hope to see good news - and I am sure it will be soon.  Try and rest yourself as you need all your energy at the moment to look for your little girl.  Julie XLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I think someone will have this little poppet and doesn't want to give her back. It makes sense, with no sightings and after all the work you have done to find her. People seem to want to hang onto these little dogs, and they are so easy to hide. Don't give up. It just takes one person to see her and put two and two together when they see one of your posters or see it in the paper. Wishing she is home to you very soon.xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I feel I've learnt a hard lesson here - if Twinkle had been wearing a tag and collar and someone has indeed found her, dead or alive, it might have just made them realize how she was a loved Pet and phone us. Even if they'd ran her over, found her dead.. it might have even deterred the person from snatching her if that is what's happened. I'm so sorry Twinkle, I can't believe your not back with me yet. :'(Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Another day gone by with no calls, sightings or anything. We put posters up in alot of places yesterday: BBH Village Shop, Pets At Home (front of the cash registers), South Water Country Park, Near Southwater Corner Shop, Pets Corner next to Waitrose, Horsham Park Carpark... we've put them up everywhere we can think of. I didn't actually knock on any doors yesterday as my dad and me have put flyers through every door around us, especially on the main two roads where there could have been an accident with Twinkle involved. I'm not good with knocking on strangers doors, especially as they're likely to get irritated with me if they've already had a flyer... Yesterday I took Patch out to the Village Green and I listened out for any dogs barking..when we've driven to town I've scoured the roadsides with my eyes. I know it's only just been a week but I really am finding it hard to hold on and hope as there's nothing to hold onto - not knowing anything is killing me inside. I just don't understand, it just doesn't make sense... Twinkle was never the type of dog to actually run off far away, she doesn't want to go out of her comfort zone. Sunday is such a quite day, there are some cars on the two main roads and people do drive quite fast, but I still don't believe that no-one would have witness or heard anything happening if Twinkle had been run over. The idea that someone has found her dead and delibrately hid her body somewhere is too much to bear because I'm worried no-one will find her. If someone wanted to delibrately take her, say someone who pulled up and picked her up, then yes perhaps it's possible no one was around at the time. If whoever took her lives nearby, they won't be able to go long without noticing a poster. No-one has come forward at all. I know that I can't trust that little girls sighting as I've talked to some of the older kids and they say she often lies/makes things up, also there are three other dogs of Twinkle's sort of coat colour that we've seen recently, the crossbreed that strays, a honey coloured small Lab and a Corgi. My heart can't take this much longer. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Good luck with knocking on the doors today - something positive has got to come out of this soon.  The sunshine brings people out so try and talk to everyone in the village that you see, especially where there was the possible sighting last week..  Twinkle is out there somewhere - now is the time when she needs to either show herself or bark to let you know where she is. Hoping for some good news later when I check Twinkles page out later.  Julie XLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Julie thanks so much for your help I'm going out to poster everywhere you suggested aswell as Southwater Country Park and the Garden Center that's just past Tescos this morning. Also have decided to go and knock on peoples doors in the Village since it's Sunday - just in case anybody did see Twinkle the day she went missing or the day after (hence the little girls sighting). Still no news - fingers crossed something comes through today. Please Twinkle come home! I miss my little star.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Im sorry that you still haven't had any news.  Keep positive though as still early days - even though it doesnt feel like it.  I dont have a printer at home so am unable to help you with posters - although I can make suggestions of where might be good to put them.  I think Pet Smart up by the Iron Bridge would be a good place.  That is quite a main place where people buy their pet supplies.  I was in there today - they have a poster for a stolen labrador in there at the moment - so I am sure they would only be too pleased to help.  As I said before, maybe a few posters placed around the carfax in Horsham would be good.  Also the village shop in Broadbridge Heath - there is a poster there for the stolen labrador there too, on the lampost outside - you could add your poster with this one.  You could always ask at Tesco at BBH if they would put one up for you as this where a lot of people from the surrounding area go to shop.  If the actual shop will not do it you could ask at the Tesco Garage.  A lot of people don't buy the County Times until today or tomorrow - so you could still hopefully get some phone calls once they have read it.  I will try and think of some more places for you to poster - but there are a few to keep you going.  Oh yes - and the Sainsburys garage - would also be a good place.  As many posters as you can in places where lots of people go.  I will check in on here again later to see how you going - but you are doing really well with all you are doing to find Twinkle and something positive will come of it soon hopefully.  Julie XLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Update: Still no word from anyone through the advert Julie. :( We're crossing fingers and toes that somebody will contact this weekend. Thanks Steph for talking to me this morning. I still haven't been able to post more posters further towards Horsham because my Dad had to do something urgent for his Dad this morning who lives a fair way away and I can't drive yet unfortunately. Am going to put a poster in Arthur Lodge, Petsmart, the Garden Center in BBH and The Pet shop next to Waitrose. There is a poster up at Farthings Vets already. I'm going to see whether my Dad would agree to report Twinkle as possibly stolen to the Sussex Police and get a crime number - I think he's reluctant to because we have no proof that Twinkle was taken by anyone. Even if she was taken by someone in good faith who just wanted to look after her and keep her, she's microchipped and classed as our property so therefore it is a case of theft - but I just wish we had some sort of proof through an official sighting or something. Good to talk with you this morning Twinkle's owner. You are doing such a brilliant job with getting word out there. Getting Twinkle into the local paper is great & fingers crossed will bring some news soon. Widening the search & information area is the way forward here.  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I am glad that the advert is looking good in the paper.  This has got to bring us some good news about Twinkle.  Don't go upsetting yourself and even thinking about the fact that if someone was fed up with her (because she wouldnt obey them) that they would take her to the vets and have her put to sleep.  There is no way that a vet would even contemplate doing this to her without a valid reason.  If she is healthy in all other ways the vets would take her and find her a new home - but then saying that I am sure that they would scan her - especially if they had never seen her before. Did you get a poster up in Farthings Hills Vets (Guildford Road) and Arthur Lodge Vets (Brighton Road) ?  I do think that if someone had taken her in they would be looking after her - because if they didnt want her in the first place they would have just left her out on the street.  If it is someone nearby that has taken her - they will be found out before long as they can't possibly keep her indoors forever.  I am glad that you agree with me that Barns Green is not a short cut that people would take - makes me feel even more that she is still in your area.  Lets hope that by the time most people have brought the West Sussex County Times sometime over the next couple of days we have got some promising news - or better than that Twinkle home where she belongs.  As I said before, I will look at those websites you have given me just in case she has been picked up.  Just a thought - the other thing you could do is poster in the Carfax, Horsham and just around the town centre as tomorrow there will be an awful lot of people down there as always - you never know - Horsham is the nearest town to Barns Green where people would go to.  Let us know later on how you have got on.  Julie X  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Just wanted to say also that you guys have a valid point about Twinkle not being identified as a Pom. Some people have mistaken her for a Chihuhua or even a Papillon before! (my other dog Patch is one). I have tried to leave as much details about what she looks like with people as poss - she's a very distinctive colour - Red sable is officially the name but I've also described her as Ginger. Small but quite big for her breed and very fluffy with a foxy face. She's actually more like a German Spitz than your real KC Crufts-accepted Pomeranian. I don't believe that people wouldn't make the connection because she is so distinctive. I've only ever seen two other Pomeranians while I've had her. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Just bought a copy of The County Times - Twinkle is in the advertisement section under Dogs. The picture is quite big which is good because it's not missable but it's a little distorted from being resized so it's not as clear as I would have liked - but I think it's good enough. Have phoned the Police again today and a kind woman looked in the Lost and Found dog book - still nothing. Her details were left with them way back on Sunday because my dad phoned them. Also phoned Dog Warden again just in case - nothing - said that they have her up on the board. I phoned RSPCA Brighton and left details of Twinkle. Also contacted a rescue in Burgess Hill - it's about the nearest one to here - called Happy Breed. Railway left a message yesterday saying they'd contact if anything was seen or found. Said the night and day workers would look out for her on the line. Julie - here's the list of dog rescues in Sussex - some have webpages that I've already checked. http://www.dogpages.org.uk/sth-east.htm I have a feeling too that Twinkle has been taken by someone and that she can't be very far. It's just a case of whether they'll give her up without a fight. I am praying she's being looked after and fed. She's  a tough cookie who is really quite adaptable for her size but the fact that she's deaf makes her vunerable and really makes me worried. She won't do what she's told with verbal commands. Just the idea that someone would have her put to sleep because of it is too distressing to think about - she should be scanned for her microchip. How could someone not? It's awful to think some vets wouldn't scan her if she turned up as a new patient. The fact that she's neutred reassures me that she won't be able to be bred from or sold for that purpose. As for local fields - well I've gone up to the local campsite that has a big field - also the local woods next to Muntham House School and the village green. Scanned some fields with livestock in. I've not looked thoughly through all of them as some are private and hard to get into. I'm just hoping, praying we'll get some piece of information from someone soon... Going to put more posters up with my dad later. I refuse to give up. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I think the paper may just be the answer.  I really think if Twinkle had been run over - you would have either found her or had a phone call from a local vet for where she would have possibly been taken.  I have this feeling that she has been taken in by someone. The majority of people in the area buy the West Sussex County Times and I believe that when people see that advert tomorrow it will make people very much aware.  This is when people might notice a new dog in a neighbours house/garden and make contact to allow you to investigate - lets hope that this is the case.  I am just so waiting to see some good news.  Have you walked across nearby fields to look for her at all ?  Was just a thought - as she has long fur she may have got caught up somewhere - a possibility.  Do you know if any of the local rescues have website addresses so that maybe I can also check them out for you daily online as well as yourself maybe visiting in  person ?   Like Aunt Stef said - I have also seen stories on here where dogs have been microchipped and they have been missed - also the breeds have been wrong as well.  I must admit I would never have know little Twinkles breed - she is just gorgeous. I really hope that tomorrows advert brings some positive news and has Twinkle on her way home.  Julie XLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thank you for your post doglover. I can only endorse this. Chips can be missed & not all kennels routinely scan I'm afraid. nkesteven I have emailed you some more rescue addresses .These ones are in Surrey.Close enough to perhaps be used by anyone finding a dog in your county.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Im so sorry no news on dear Twinkle, she looks such a sweet girl. Re your last post if it was me I would not only phone but visit in person rescue centers, vets etc  every few days as there have been stories on this site of dogs NOT being scanned or checked, some do, some dont !! (even though chipped) or people not knowing the breed well ?? and 2 and 2 not being put together!  also have you tried knocking on local doors, and speaking to people and if she has been taken in you may get some more info or even find twinkle, also good to put posters up in your car window so as you drive around it will get noticed. I wish you all the very best in finding her and im sure you will have good news soon.   Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Just wanted to add: I haven't felt like there's any point in phoning many rescue centers as the nearest one is in Burgess Hill, second Brighton. Twinkle is chipped - that means that if anybody of local authority/charity must scan her when she's handed in, right? The local dog warden has been alerted to Twinkle, so has both nearest vets, Dogs Trust in Brighton, Southern Railway - whether Twinkle was found alive or dead, if she went to any of these places she'd end up being scanned. I just don't understand how there's been not one piece of info about her. It's so frustrating and painful. :(Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

So far still nothing Julie - we've had no phonecalls whatsoever and not one official sighting. Went to put poster up in our vet yesterday afternoon. Going to put some more up later futher afield. So far we've only done the immediate area of Barns Green mainly on posts and trees and a few going towards South Water. I think you're absoloutely right, Barns Green is not particuarly somewhere you drive through - we have one road that goes to Broadbridge Heath and on to Horsham and on the way is a road to Christ Hospital. On Sundays the roads are very very quiet. Because there's been no info from anyone for several days we now feel that unless Twinkle got run over/attacked and fled somewhere out of sight where no-one would see her or find her there seems to be only one conclusion and that is that she's been taken by someone who's not giving her up. She could be in the village right now in someone's house - if that's the case they're damn stubborn because the likelyhood that they haven't seen the posters is so small. I walk both my dogs reguarly to the village green and round the pavements reguarly - so keeping her hidden from view would be difficult.   The ad for County Times has been confirmed so right now we're resting all our hope on this bringing us some kind of information about Twinkle's wherabouts. We're just praying that someone will come forward.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I am sorry that you have had no luck yet in finding Twinkle.  I have been watching this page all morning from work in the hope of seeing some good news.  Do you think maybe Twinkle is closer to home and the person taking down the posters has anything to do with this ?  I still believe that she has not gone too far at all - because there have been no sightings at all. Also, if I am right in saying - Barns Green is not a village that you would normally take a short cut through (if you were driving) which again makes me think she is local.  I think you were right to put the advert in the paper as it is going to make whoever has got Twinkle realise that you are not going to give up until you get her back - which I dont think will be long.  Like I said before, you have got to keep trying to think positive, keep your strength up and just continue doing what you are doing with postering like mad and searching the best you can.  You are doing a really good job.  I only wish I was able to help more, but what with working full time I don't really get an awful lot of time.  Please do keep posting on here to keep us updated though, as I said before have been thinking of Twinkle all the time.  Lets hope for some good news very soon.  Julie XLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thankyou very much Julie for your advice and support - my dad is sorting out the advert for the Sussex County Times this morning - we've decided to pay the fee as it's definitely worth the money if it brings her home - my dad has a woman who works for him as a receptionist and knows some of the people who work for the paper well. She has had a word with several but the paper as a whole has refused to put in a story for her as they have recently put a policy on Lost dogs which is that they just won't accept them as they get overloaded with requests. Very dissapointing. At least we'll get a photo in anyway even though we have to pay. Put posters up outside the next nearest pub to us going towards Horsham and several on the surrounding rounds heading to Southwater. There's also been a poster put up by a kind girl by brother met who works at the local kennels (boaring and quarantine) and my mum has put one up at the local farm shop. Shelties Mum - we've printed lots of posters and stuck them through just about every houses door in the surrounding neighborhood houses. Although I'm keeping up hope that someone nearby has taken her and she's not far it's so frustrating knowing you've got all this info up and the person hasn't bothered or isn't aware of her being a loved missing dog. It does seem like the most likely thing at the moment because of the lack of sightings. The most unlucky thing about this whole situation is that she escaped on a Sunday when the village is at it's quietest. Because we haven't heard anything yet me and my mum are starting to believe that she has been taken by someone with the intent to keep her and not notify anyone of them finding her. If this is the case, at least she's warm and safe but still it tears my heart out to think she could be not far away. It's the not knowing that's so painful. She's such a special dog. Am going to all three local vet branches later today and putting her poster in them. They have all been notified of her absence. Also going to the local campsite. I can't help beating myself up over the fact she wasn't wearing a collar as that might have just put someone off taking her. A microchip is not visible so.  Just hoping and praying that we'll hear something soon. Thanks again everyone for your support I don't know what I'd do without you.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I'd also print off posters and stick them through the nearby street doors. I have that funny hunch she may have been taken in nearby. That has happened so often with lost dogs, found just round the corner. It's a case of pricking someone's conscience and flushing the little one out. Children would love a dog like this, nice and cuddly and friendly and some adults don't think they need to be handed back. Too far away to help in Kent, but praying for an early return. xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I am sorry that you have had no promising news of Twinkle.  She has to be out there somewhere, however, as there have been no confirmed sightings I am thinking more towards someone may have picked her up.  I think that the advert in the paper is quite an important part of getting her back, although I know it is expensive.  Instead of putting a missing advert in - are you able to try and speak to the editorial department at the paper - to see if they would do a story on her - with a picture.  This would probably be a much cheaper way of doing it (obviously if they will do it).  If you explain that Twinkle is deaf etc. they may just sympathise with you and do a story for Fridays paper.  It is worth a try and I think they may just do it for you.  Have you walked around the fields nearby to see if she has got caught up anywhere ?  I also guess that it is possible for her to have wandered into an outbuilding - shed/garage and got shut in - if this is the case I am sure someone will find her soon.  I so wish she would come back as I have done nothing but think of Twinkle the last few days.  Just try and remain positive as best as you can.  Julie XLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Just got back from chasing up both possible sightings of Twinkle - one was from a young boy who told me he saw a dog go up an alleyway that goes round the back of several houses and out onto the bus stop where the other sighting was said to have taken place - This boy told me this on Sunday, only a few hours after Twinkle went missing - I knocked on his door with a big clear picture of her and said that the dog he saw didn't look like her. Also went to knock on the grandparents of the girl who said she saw Twinkle only round the corner from our inclave yesterday afternoon - turns out she's very young - only 9 - and I showed her the picture also. She was adament that Twinkle WAS the dog she saw but I really don't know what to think as the other dog that is not looked after properly and escapes from his house reguarly is also small and he could be mistaken for her. She also said the dog went down the same alleyway. Have gone all the way down it backwards and forwards and peeped into the backgardens off it - even bent down into rubbish and wood piles to see if she could be hiding - again no sign of her whatsoever. This is the only thing I'm holding on to right now but I don't understand how only this girl can have seen Twinkle and no one else have come forward - I really feel she would have tried to come home herself or managed to smell me and my dog looking for her if she was in the vicinity. If she was stuck or trapped she would definitely bark and her bark is very high pitched.  Have phoned the railway line and left details with them about Twinkle. Also went to both ends of the train line that goes past the back of our close. Talked to one of our close neighbors who told me the woman next door had one of her two dogs run over by a train only days ago when he escaped from the back of her house. Have not decided whether to put Twinkle's ad in the County Times yet as it's going to cost about ?100. The deadline for Friday's newspaper is tommorow. Am going to do some scent marking now. Also going to put some posters further afield going towards Horsham. I am just so so worried about her now. This is heartbreaking. :(Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

There has been a possible sighting ,yesterday at around 4pm.Owner is going to double check this with the person who thought she saw Twinkle running up & down a residential road quite near to home. There is another small brown dog that regularly gets out & wanders round the village but with this sighting, the dog was running up & down & looked frightened. Owner is going to lay scent & food in quiet areas of this road to try & keep Twinkle in the area. All fingers crossed here that this is Twinkle. Owner is also going to give Southern Rail a call.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I do hope that Twinkle shows herself very soon - or you get that phone call which you are waiting for.  From where you are - is there anyway she would have wandered off towards Horsham / BBH ?  I only wish that I knew the area better.  Did you have any joy with the newspaper in the end ?  Also, did you try Radio Mercury ?  Have you postered outside of Barns Green at all - sorry with all the questions - but I was just thinking if someone passing through Barns Green picked her up as they may have thought she was lost (which she was) - they may have taken her home and are waiting to see if there is a lost advert in the paper - or waiting to see if they see any posters local to them.  It was just a thought - I am trying to think of all things that might help.  JulieLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Twinkle was actually gone for quite a while before any of my family realised she'd gone - I had been upstairs most of the morning and the dogs had both been up there with me since my dad let them out of the room they sleep in together downstairs at night - when I went down I let them out in the garden (around midday) and Patch came back, but Twinkle did not. She has escaped the garden before somehow even though we've tried hard to block any holes in the wire/bushes but she's only ever gone next door to our neighbors garden and compost heap before coming back the way she came. Yes there is a railway line that is off the back of our close - me and my dad went to look there yesterday. She could quite easily get onto the tracks under the gate but we didn't find anything. I haven't gone as far as the farms yet - there's a big one with a fishing campsite only a few minutes walk from our house - going to go looking again this morning. If someone is keeping her in their house until they find out who she belongs to, they must be pretty much housebound as anybody who goes to the village store or pub would be aware of Twinkle. Unless she's gone much futher afield where people wouldn't see the flyers which is possible. Barns Green encompasses a big area and there are alot of houses here, some more seperate from others. I'll make sure to contact West Sussex County Times again before noon. So far, no calls whatsoever. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I have just had a look at Google Earth and it does look like quite a built up area with no major main roads - which is good.  There are fields around the area where Twinkle could be hiding and there are many houses where someone could be keeping her safe until they realise that she belongs to you.  I could also see that there is a railway line - is this nearby you ?  If so it maybe worth a look to see if she has wandered off that way.  Lets hope that tomorrow is the day where she is found and back home with you where she belongs. I so hope you hear some good news tomorrow.  I can understand the worry as I would feel exactly the same.  However, having watched this site for a few months now there are some dogs found weeks down the line (even in the snow which we had) and they were fine.  They have a way of looking after themselves.  Even though I have lived in Horsham all my life I really dont know Barns Green at all, so am unable to suggest anywhere specific to look.  Are there any farms nearby where she could have taken cover ?  Is Barns Green a forest area - or is it just fields ?  I am sure that the County Times will get back to you tomorrow and if you havent heard by lunchtime I would ring them and chase them up. I know that the deadline for Fridays paper is Wednesday lunchtime.  How long had she been gone after you noticed ?  JulieLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks very much for your ideas Julie - I've phoned West Sussex County Times and emailed them the ad I'd like placed - Haven't heard back yet so will have to wait till tommorow. Steph advised me to go down to any rivers or ponds I know of nearby. Have searched both. Posted more flyers through letterboxes - put one up at the local pub too. Am trying very hard to stay strong but it's very hard not knowing anything of where she might be. I'm praying she's been taken in by someone because it's very cold out there this evening. If anybody has her in the village there's no way they won't be aware that she's a missing pet as flyers are unmissable. Crossing both fingers we'll hear something tommorow. I live in Horsham and work in BBH.  I will keep my eyes open for Twinkle. I know it is easy to say - but try and remain calm as you need to keep all your strength up to keep looking for her.  I think it would be a good idea to telephone the West Sussex County Times Newspaper as soon as possible on 01403 751200 and get an large advert in the paper for Friday.  At least that will alert everyone to the fact she is missing.  Also you could ring Radio Mercury and let them know Twinkle is missing - they may sympathise with you and give out over the radio for listeners to look out for her.  If I can be of any other help let me know. Phoned both vets in Horsham area - Local council too - Both nothing so far. Been walking this morning with our other dog Patch around the village, all the walking routes we take, back alleys - also searched the roadside. Posters up in local shop outside and at the counter. My dad was advised by a collegue to phone the council Dump as dead pets bodies sometimes get picked up and taken there - she said they scan for a microchip thus alerting the owner he was told they had nothing also. Starting to wonder whether Twinkle's been taken in or picked up by someone who has either stolen her or decided to keep her as she has no collar. We really have no idea what has happened to her. She's just disappeared. I am very distraught. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Just spoken to Twinkle's owner. Posters are up, DW & Vets in the area will be informed today.Local rescues will be called. Twinkle is chipped but did not have her tag on so someone who has perhaps taken her in needs to get her to a vet for scanning. Sending more poster etc details to owner.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Have phoned local dog warden and Horsham police - Posted flyers around Barns Green village and through people's letter boxes. Still no sign or word of her. Going to phone the two local vets this morning. Very concerned now. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Twinkle is microchipped but is not wearing a collar. She managed to escape from our backgarden on 8th of March and is most likely to be in the Barns Green area. Twinkle is completely deaf and therefore will not answer to any names. However she is very friendly towards humans. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
