Thank you all so much for your kind thoughts and comments, Amber will be very sadly missed by our family. We have been in contact with the company that Network Rail contracts to collect & dispose of any animal found on the south's railways. They told us that a Golden Retriever was reported dead on the line Wednesday 25th March, 2/3 days after she went missing. Had she been wearing her collar they would have phoned us when she was recovered. They take all animals to what they describe as a "pet crematorium" in Gatwick, and she was cremated on Thursday 26th March. This was five days before we heard what had happened, so there is nothing further we could do. We did query if they scan animals for microchips, and the answer was "sometimes" - clearly not in this case. But why? It makes one wonder how many other family pets have just disappeared without trace this way, perhaps this is an issue that needs addressing since all other animal organisations seem to scan routinely. Thank you all again.  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

This is just the news that I was hoping not to hear. How very sad. Amber was only half way through her life but Goldens do enjoy themselves and are often "free-spirits" on their walks, venturing further than we would like them to. A short life but obviously packed with good walks and adventures.   Sandy (Timberlog Goldens)Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Nigel & I are so sad to hear the news about Amber - she did not deserve to end her life in this way - Amber was such a lovely girl & I feel very proud to have bred her & to have known her. It is comforting that Amber's progeny live on, they really are a credit to her & to Janet & Paul. Our thoughts are with you & all the family. Thankyou for giving Amber a happy & varied life. Knowing is better than not knowing - now we can say our goodbyes to a lovely golden girlie - goodnight Amber - sleep tight & God bless you - forever in out hearts xxx Diane & Nigel Draper - Medodaine Golden Retrievers.   Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Jusr heard the news we were dreading from Diane- cannot beleive it, our thoughts are with you all and your family. The only possible good (the wrong word of course) out of this is that you can have closure and will not always wonder 'where is she'. But she lives on in all your ownderful puppies from her - including my adorable Harley who is a credit to you and her. Karen & Mark Rawlings.  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Oh how very sad, poor Amber, and I so feel for the owners. So kind of the farm worker, but surely once again there is a responsibility here by the railway authorities to try to find out who the dog belongs to - and Amber was chipped so this could and should have been done.   I hope owners are able to have Amber's body back so they can be reunited with her and to say goodbye.   Rest in peace, lovely girl xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Paul how sad for you to have had a call with this news.  Thinking of you and your family, these are the worst types of calls especially when you have not been able to identify it was definitely Amber.  Thanks for letting us know.  Jan x Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I am sorry to say that we have had a phone call this morning that we have been dreading. A farm worker called having seen one of our posters to say that railway workers asked for access across his farmland to mainline railway track in order to remove a dog's body last Thursday 26th March. He said that it was a beautiful looking golden dog that had been electrocuted on the third live rail system we have here in the south. The farm he works on is no more than two miles from Stansted Park where Amber ran away from us. We are trying to obtain some sort of confirmation from the railway authorities, and will post any confirmation if it is forthcoming as soon as we can. Thank you all again for your thoughts and helpful suggestions, although this time it looks as if there will be no happy reunion.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

HI  I've just come back from walking Tess at Hook Park, Warsash
-there was a sign from the dog warden at Fareham Borough Council 'dog found'. So I rang.  Unfortunately not Amber but I gave them her details as they were not aware.

Paul thank you for the update. You have done very well. If you let us know when Amber is actualy in any papers or publications we will push her back up to the top. I have also emailed you again with some more pointers. There may just be something which will help. Keep up the publicity, only step it up much more - cover a much larger area and get hundreds of posters and flyers out over surrounding area. Enlist help from family and friends.  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks to all for your kind advice, help, & thoughts. No news, but we are out trying everything - hence delay in responding on website. Since Amber went missing family & friends have searched entire Stansted Estate & several miles around daily, and area where she went missing at least 3 times/day. We have put food out in the the area but it has remained untouched. We have put down a favorite item of family textiles. We have now put up more than fifty A4 colour posters with a photo and offering a reward for her return in a five/six mile radius, and handed flyers to dog walkers. Stansted Estate Head Warden, Estate Office and grounds staff are all well aware that she is missing and have been very sympathetic and helpful in looking out for her. All vets, area dog wardens, police stations, rescue centres for miles have been contacted. Missing notice has been printed in Portsmouth Evening Newspaper. E-mailed information to Wave & Spirit FM as they required. Other radio stations have stopped lost dog news.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

So devestated to hear from Di Amber has gone missing, i have a special interest as my beloved dog Harley is her son. I have entered her details on my website karenspetcare.co.uk to ask if anyone has information, and have emailed friends in the Hampshire area. Might be an idea to ring local radio stations - Wave 105 cover Emsworth may air her details-i expect you have tried everything but may be worth a try. My prayers are with you Janet and family and hope she returns safe soon. Kind regards.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

just make her so 'hot' by every means, posters/word of mouth/local radio/papers/vets/kennels/supermarkets, all you can think of, Put some bedding/food down where she was last seen & keep checking back, she may be coming back to check for you.   Our Megan was out alone for 1 week but found 7 miles away, very frightened and thin but unhurt, we never gave up hope that she was safe and would be found, even now when we talk to people, they say, they did not realise that it was our Megan! A brief sighting/phone call, then next day they found her. Stay stong & believe, you are all in our thoughts for her safe return. BerylLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
