- Billy is still missing - this email from owners friend who registered Billy on site
With regret, Billy is still missing. However, the owners have enlisted the help of a guy who sets up traps to lure and hopefully lost dogs. The owners are regularly going up to the area where he was seen in the hope that he will be found. I wish I could have replied with good news of some form.

- just got back from walk in area billy has been spotted.......handed out flyers to lots of walkers....young girl who rides in the area took several to pass to her friends also with horses (very helpful) :) posters around springs are great and won't come off in a hurry they have been very well put up :) put flyers through doors of houses opposite church. went into pet shop on high street and they have put flyer in the window and left a pile at the till....also very helpful. there are still no other posters in barton le clay........only around the springs walk area. come on billy...........show yourself now xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- Great work Alfmar and Sarak - hopefully this will bring results, good point by Alfmar posters really if possible must be in waterproof sleeves with the hole taped at the bottom - this saves no end of work in re-postering after each rain fall. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- had a walk round met some dog walkers and gave them a flyer. the posters that are up will be ruined if it rains........all posters need to be in waterproof jackets......... met sarak who has laid a smelly sardine trail out of the woods towards the first houses by the church.....so hopefully if he picks this scent up and follows it he will be more easily seen again.........it is a vast area and as mrsm pointed out he could quite easily get to lilley accross the fields. earlier today my husband drove through barton le clay and saw a young couple with a dog very much like billy......it was on a lead and he said it wasn't walking nicely at all pulling and jumping about like he was very excited. if this was my dog that was missing i would leaflet the whole of barton le clay door to door and put up posters throughout the village....it's not a sleepy little village ...really quite a busy place with lots and lots of dog owners......there are several shops that should have posters up and i went into the vets "julia boness" and gave them a flyer... i was really very surprised that they hadn't already got one!! also an advert in the local press would be a very good idea. xx Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- sarak great to hear the posters are in really good places.......sounds like it should only be a matter of time and patience before someone catches him.. we need to take some really smelly food out with us when walking the area pilchards....hotdogs... sardines..stinky cat food...tripe.... any of these will do .... if anyone sees him crouch down low and hopefully he will come to the food. :) Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- No sighting did 2 full circuits, upper & lower stayed by the stream for a while.
People I spoke to hadnt seen him, The posters are in good postions on both entries to the reserve if he stays in that area with the amount of dog walkers & ramblers he has a good chance of being leaded.

- email from owner
Just got the details from the owner -
The directions are: if you park (by car) by the church in barton le clay (church road). Take the path to the left of the hill (alongside the field), continue upwards beyond the steps, and that's the area billy has been spotted. He still has a harness on, which appears to be loose, and there is a spring water nearby which may also be worth checking out and perhaps areas where people picnic as well, as billy may look for scraps there.
Thank you so much for this

- Just letting you know, a dog matching Billy's description has been spotted in Barton Hills (Barton Le Clay).
He appears to be excitable around people and other dogs and still has his collar on him. If anybody sees him, please help!

- Hi thank you for your response and advice.
Billy is not my dog, but part of my dog's litter, and I felt I had to do something.
Billy last went missing on the fields back of Marshals Avenue, off High Road in Shillington, near Hitchin (as someone quite rightly mentioned). There has been several reported sightings in the area, and so I am convinced he is still in the area.
I am having problems uploading a picture to this site, and so instead have uploaded it to a website and here is the link:

- I am 4 miles from Shillington, can Billys owner say exactly where Billy went missing & the direction he was heading in. I can go up tomorrow for a few hours & have a scout around.

- Hi I?m sorry to hear your dog is missing. Firstly contact dog wardens, vets and local rescue centres?local council stray dogs holding kennel give them all a detailed description of your dog with any distinguishing marks/scars.., If you can go down there each day to check for your dog that is the best thing as they only have to hold a dog for 7 days before it can legally be rehomed or in some cases destroyed. It is also worth contacting the local police as if someone has found your dog they may well have contacted them. email admin@doglost.co.uk with a photo please if you haven?t already. You can only print posters when you are signed in. Get postering now?..as quickly and as many as you can physically manage. POSTER POSTER POSTER!!!?I cannot emphasize how important this is, from the posters you will get sightings and lots of extra pairs of eyes looking out for your dog. if your dog is tattooed or microchipped, then of course state so in your posters, but remember to phone the tattoo and microchip people... get them to look up your details and confirm they have the best and most current contact numbers for you. And a backup if possible. Poster bus stops, train stations, supermarket/retail park car parks, pet shops petrol stations, lay by snack vans, service stations, bins, poo bins, shopping centres, take away outlets, pubs, lamposts, caf?s, leisure centre?s,??.basically anywhere people go you need to poster like mad so nobody misses them? ask in as many places as you can if they will display a poster for you. Tell postman and binmen and give them a poster so they have your phone no handy? look up and call all local dog walkers and email them a poster if possible. in fact tell every single person you meet while searching as the more people know the much better chance of getting your dog back quickly. Contact the local newspaper and radio stations? take out an advert with a photo in the papers pets section lost and found. If you believe your dog has been stolen then it is very important you contact the police for a crime reference number?. And the postering publicity should have the aim of not only getting your dog home but making it too hot to handle.
