Gosh if that was Romany she has travelled a long way - its nearly 40 miles from Fort William to Oban. Soroba Road is very busy and if she is heading towards Lochgilphead there are houses and farms along that road - yet another busy road now that the tourist season is upon us.  I'm going into Oban tomorrow to the Vets with one of my dogs so I'll run off some posters and get them up in the Vets, PAH and the pet shop - unless someboy has already done so - haven't seen any around .  If it is Romany and she is picked up by our dog warden she will probably go to Fiona Wormall at Lochandubh Kennels, Achacha,  Barcaldine - the phone number is 01631 720311/720747. Fingers crossed that it is Romany - stay safe sweetheart - if you've come all this way on your own you will be so tired and footsore. Suexxxx  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Update from Border collie Rescue - 7pm - 13th April There has been another possible sighting of Romany. The sighting was reported to our SSPCA contact in Fort William earlier today. We are awaiting further details.   For the time being all we are aware of is that an elderly Border Collie, matching the description of Romany, was spotted by an Oban Times reader on the A816 (Soroba Road) in the suburbs south of Oban, heading south towards Lochgilphead. At the moment we are not clear on whether the sighting was made on Saturday or Sunday. We ask anyone in the area to keep an eye open for any stray tricolour Border Collie. If this is Romany, she is an excellent scavenger and is likely to be foraging bins for food. Please contact us if you think you have seen her. Email us at hq@bordercollierescue.org or phone us on 0870 444 5839 - this is not a premium line and charges normal BT national rates. We will take your number and call you back.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi,
Although I am as far away as you can get (Cornwall) I have been watching this one, having an epileptic Collie combined with the sad circumstances makes me really want this one found fast.
I read the recent sighting earlier , fingers crossed.

There is a write up in the Oban Times today - fingers crossed that this will help get this dear girl back where she belongs. If Oliver the Springer survived all that time in a very remote part of Glen Etive lets hope that Romany is just as lucky.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Latest from Border Collie Rescue ----------- Today there have been no sightings but a few revelations. The story of an Australian dog, lost at sea, swimming 5 or 6 miles to a deserted island and surviving for months on a diet of Goats; before being found by visiting rangers and re-united with its owners: has been an inspiration for all involved in the search. Closer to home, the story of a 12 year old, semi deaf spaniel, lost 5 weeks ago and found alive in a shed in the Highlands; also being re-united with its owners has inspired the people on the ground around Fort William particularly.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

There has been a sighting of ROMANY .Please check the details on http://www.bordercollierescue.org/Romany.html. It is on a sheletered side of the mountain below the hut known as the CIC hut.The hut is near a stream which runs down to the town where the dog was seen at the weekend. SPCA is going to the hut with a trap and food and hope that the dog is caught soon. Wonderful news that there is AT LAST a SIGHTING.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

It is also possible that the tricolour collie, if it is in the Nevis Centre area, the dog who usually wanders around there is called Cullin.  Almost everyone knows him.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thankyou, Jareds Mum, for your support, and our thanks to those who joined your group. Yesterday evening we got a report that there were two seperate sightings of a tricolour BC in the FW suburbs. One on Sat and one on Sunday by different people. If this is Romany it is good news that she has got off the mountain and is now near human habitation where she is more likely to find food and shelter. The search has now shifted to the area of the sightings. It may be a local dog, but apprently none have been reported missing, so unless its a latchkey, the odds are it is Romany. The local SSPCA inspector has contacted us to say she is looking out and the SSPCA have details on their database. Thankyou to everyone who has taken Romany's cause to heart. We pray the efforts are rewarded by her safe recovery.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Went up to Fort William yesterday and a party of us went on a search but unfortunately no news to report.  There is massive support in this area to find the poor darling.  Good luck to the helpers.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Latest on Romany from Border Collie Rescue Update - 4pm - 30th March Again, we will only place one update today, unless we hear any news. If we do, you will too. Unfortunately still no sightings but more progress on the ground and on the Ben. A local has come forward and offered to act as on site co-ordinator, should there be any sightings. Her name is Moira. Now we need to add to others willing to act on her alerts should we need a ’search party’ to follow up a sighting, although we hope that Romany would go to anyone seeing her - if she sees them. A number of Mountain Rescue and SARDA (Search and Rescue Dog Association) members have offered to conduct independent searches over the next day or two. We can only hope they may come up with something. Romany’s DogLost page has also had offers of ’on the ground’ help. Thanks again Doglost. We keep getting News Alerts which link to pages where an article or mention of Romany has been posted. The vast majority of these have been posted by Gillie - Thanks Gillie.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi, Just want to thank everyone for the efforts they are putting in to try and locate Romany. We are putting updates on her page on our website daily, but there is nothing positive to report regarding sightings, only that a lot of folk are putting out posters, spreading the word and looking. Tomorrow, some mountian rescue and SARDA folk will be up there and we have been hoping for promised articles to appear in two newspapers who have contacted us for details. Fingers crossedLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

The latest news from Border Collie Rescue. Please remember to check this link for the latest news on Romany. http://www.bordercollierescue.org/Romany.html ---------------------------------- 11.30pm 28th March It seems to have been a day for sending emails. Over 100 sent out with posters attached to various businesses around the Glencoe, Lochaber and Ben Nevis area. A local paper has been in touch and asked for details with regard to a story in tomorrows edition and a number of our followers on Twitter have also been busy sending messages, so thanks goes to all who have helped. A kind lady calling herself "daisylittlestar" has been outstanding. Also, thanks to the enigmatic ’gillie’ who has also been quietly working to help find Romany. Doglost, particularly their Scottish co-ordinator and helpers, deserve a big vote of thanks for all their help and input. Sadly, still no sighting or sign. We hope that if the weather is better tomorrow, a lot of climbers and walkers will set off up and down the mountain. Hopefully all having seen either a poster or an article in the papers and keeping their eyes skinned! The weather forecast is still not that good with snow forecast in the morning and rain later.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

There is no further news of Romany so far. There are many people out there looking for her, due to posters and hill walkers, but there are so many dangers up there. Let's hope she is safe somewhere. I have emailed all the IV and PH postcode helpers to see if they can assist with the search for Romany. It is mountain climbing though - Ben Nevis, but even helping on the ground around the area would be good too. Anyone who can help would be greatly appreciated. Here is the link to Border collie Rescue who update the status on Romany regularly and are doing all they can to help find her. http://www.bordercollierescue.org/Romany.htmlLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I've posted the details on Animal Rehoming UK, ukshowdogs, BFA Discussion Board etc, plus to several friends in Scotland asking to crosspost. I hope Romany is found safe and sound. Has the owner gone to where he parked his vehicle, as this is where a dog will usually scent their way back to. ValerieLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Our Scottish co-ordinator, Jarred's Mum, has alerted her friend who has 3 dog walkers working in that area.  She is putting the word round the dog community as this is a popular walk. Thanks, that is a great help. Hopefully someone will spot Romany soon.
