- because of the heat and Alfies age i suspect he may be very very close to home - maybe in an outbuilding, or behind a shed or object in his or a nearby garden or underneath a hedge or something out of the heat....... i do hope he is found alive and well bless him. keeping fingers crossed

- 25.07.22 CROSS POSTED UPDATE by Heather:
Today marks a week since ALFIE went missing. Myself and Nick Smith from the Lost Dog Trapping Team offered help after seeing the wonderful support his owners neighbour Sallie and Daughter Olivia were giving, and we immediately gave advice. As you know ALFIE is a very old dog, and has mobility issues. He went missing on the hottest day of the year. ALFIE was not capable of travelling miles which many displaced dogs do. Most dogs will return home if allowed to do so, so we set up cameras which we are monitoring to this day 24/7, a feeding station and scent trails. Ground searching has been done by Alfie’s owner, myself, Nick and the lovely neighbours, Jo Carlaw Bailey and many members of the public. Posters have been put up. I created a page for Alfie, and social media has been saturated. Alfie’s page has reached an incredible 53k people.
People have been asked to check outbuildings, sheds, pond and watercourses as well as barns and under hedgerows. We have used a thermal scope, and Nick has used his thermal drone.
There has not been one sighting since 21.30 on the 18th July, in the cul de sac close to Alfie’s house on Bank View, Goostrey.
It is heartbreaking for the team not to have brought ALFIE home safely, as we know how much it would mean to his owner and indeed his neighbours, who have supported him from the very beginning.
We now have to consider that ALFIE may have actually have been found and not returned! I hate to use the word, but Alfie’s owner is considering the fact that he may have been stolen.
Please if you have any information that can help us bring ALFIE home we really need to know. Somebody must have seen ALFIE in the hours after he went missing?? Was that you?
Thank you ❤️……………
Thanks CatDiva for cross checking. The FOUND with Stray Aid is not ALFIE - 2022-07-25 22:12 CatDiva

- 24.07.22 CROSS POSTED UPDATE by Heather:
Alfie update. Ground searches continued yesterday and posters put up. More interaction with neighbours and spreading awareness. Nick had the thermal drone up this morning and we have had cameras up from day one. Alfie is a large, elderly dog who struggles to walk far. He seems to have totally disappeared with not one sighting since 21.30 on July 18th when he was seen outside a house in the cul de sac on Bank View!
We are a small team of unpaid volunteers who regularly give hours of our time searching for missing pets. We use gallons of diesel as we live over 40 mins away. We use high tech equipment, cameras, thermal scopes and drones, traps etc which are purchased by ourselves or kindly donated. Hours and hours are spent in chats, liasing with other volunteers, owners and the public. We all have jobs, families and our own animals.
It’s really heartwarming when we get so much fabulous help from the local communities who always rally to share, send good wishes and assist. We thank you.
It is five days since Alfie was last seen. Someone must have seen him. He is not capable of walking long distances especially in 38 degrees. We appeal to you all to re check your gardens, sheds, garages, ponds, barns and any areas a dog could have fallen into, gone behind or under. Any information you may have please contact us... via private message if necessary. Thank you all again. ❤️ - 2022-07-22 20:51 Majorjet (Jan) - Area Co-ordinator - Liverpool/Merseyside, North West
- CROSS POSTED UPDATE by Heather:
Sadly searches have again proved negative. We had hoped to drone an area we are allowed to today, but the weather was against us. Praying for better weather tomorrow for Nick to get the thermal drone up. Please keep sharing, keep looking. - CROSS POSTED UPDATE on his Facebook group:
Where are you ALFIE? Thank you so much to all those sharing, and checking out areas ALFIE may have sought shelter. Searching is important in circumstances where an elderly infirm dog has gone missing in extreme weather, but please remember if you do spot him, don’t shout, call, whistle or chase. Posters have gone up tonight and more going up tomorrow. Any Goostrey residents, if you could please check your gardens, sheds, under hedges and shrubs, garages etc, it would be appreciated. Thank you. X - 2022-07-21 19:35 Heather
- Thank you Jan Majorjet. Indeed owner has confirmed that this is indeed a large breed Deerhound (2” shorter than a breed standard wolfhound) and we certainly would not discount any dog whilst out searching regardless of specified breed. Shares still needed please, and ground searchers, as negative searches today. Thanks so much. X

- ALFIE was not registered on DogLost by his owner, it was a neighbour who is helping to find him. I have just spoken to his owner and clarified that ALFIE is a DEERHOUND, I will update DL and the fb group name will be updated asap by Heather who is also helping owners and out searching the area. Any link shares my take a while to feed through with any changes.
Thanks again to everyone who is helping to find ALFIE. ❤️ - 2022-07-21 12:27 Jayne - Founder Doglost.
- Have changed breed to Lurcher.
- 2022-07-21 11:40 Caroline Leopard
- Please make it clear to people searching for him that he is a lurcher. 14yrs is unusually old for a Wolfhound, and listing him as “Irish Wolfhound type” may lead people to believe they are looking for a 3ft tall 11 stone giant, rather than a more moderately sized hound. I would hate for Alfie to be overlooked by someone who is actively trying to find a much larger dog.
