Just to re iterate Mike's thanks and best wishes to everyone. We can hardly believe a whole year has passed since dear Monty disappeared. We were overwhelmed then and still are at the mammoth support of so many caring people, you are too many to mention here but we know your names from your posts, e mails and calls and truly thank you all. From every bit of physical help with searching, postering, knocking on doors to messages of support from those too far away to be 'hands on', ALL has been very much appreciated. Monty was a lovely natured and loving dog, and still very much missed and remembered, as he always will be. We are always thrilled to hear of other 'lost dogs' being found sucessfully, we just hope Monty and other lost dogs are safe wherever  they are and send our best wishes to all you good people out there who care! Hi Mike, For the past 12 months i have been watching this page in the hope that Monty has been found or even a positive sighting.. I watched "Lassie Come Home " on TV today, and thought of Monty Always keep him in your thaughts that that he is out there somewhere and that one day he will come home the same as Lassie.  Dear Sandy Thank you for your kind thoughts about Monty - it's good of you to think about him - in six days time he will have been gone a year, and as you can imagine he has not been out of our thoughts for one moment in this time.  Likewise I sincerely hope that he has found someone who has taken him in, and that's Ok provided he is being looked after and given the respect he so truly deserves. I know everybody, rightly,  says this about their dogs, but Monty had a very special place in the hearts of those who knew him - to me he was very,very special. Thank you also for enquiring about Herbie.  He is settling in very well indeed in the eight months I've had him. and he is gradually getting over the insecurities he felt initiallly as he begins to realise that this is his forever home.  I now have a puppy - another Beardie boy called Rollo - now four months old.  He and Herbie get on like a house on fire and are great fun to be with. Would like to take this opportunity to again thank all those would so kindly supported me over the past year, and for all they did in helping to find my boy. Looking at my Beardies my thoughts turn to Monty especially at this time of year and can't help wondering what happened to him, I can only hope that somebody has got him somewhere and that he is happy wherever that place is.  Hope Herbie has settled down and truly and wish you and your family well because I know you must be wondering the same thing.

Presumably the possible sighting of Monty at Goldsithney came to nothing?  We live in Helston and always look out for him when we're out and about.

I am so glad to hear it is likely that Monty has been sighted again, my friends and I have never given up hope that he will be found and will get home to Mike again before long. We still have Monty posters on show in our vehicles and they will remain there until the little devil decides to give himself up. I will be at a dog show at Breage on Sunday and will let many people know that Monty is still missing and could be in their area. Poem Man.

This has just got to be Monty!! He probably only comes out when its dark which is why he is never seen.There is something about the area,especially Greenberry Downs which is close to Germoe crossroads, that would make a good hideout.Is that where he has been all this time??

I have now been able to speak with the Facebooker who sighted the dog near Germoe crossroads. The dog was seen at about 3.a.m. on, or around July 22, sitting in the middle of the Helston - Penzance road, so she was able to ascertain that this was neither a fox, badger or cat. The dog is described as fairly big, with a lot of long hair, predominantly grey with some white. As the dog turned and ran, the long hair was seen blowing in the wind. It ran in to the side of the road and disappeared up the driveway by the sign L.A. Connings. Bumping Monty up on the strength of this, and asking that all local volunteers remain vigilant.

A 'Facebooker' has reported seeing a dog resembling Monty, at about 3.a.m., crossing the Helston-Penzance road just before Germoe, about 3 weeks ago. I am waiting to talk to this person before going down to follow up.

I have now spoken with the lady who keeps her horses at Wheal Uny. She says the fur first appeared 10 days ago, and was in a huge heap, which the wind has since dispersed, and looked as if someone had emptied out a carrier bag of fur collected from grooming either a bearded collie or an Old English Sheepdog.

The actual location is Wheal Uny, between Four Lanes and Redruth. There are tracks leading to that area from the back of Trewirgie. I parked by the cemetary and walked up a little way, before turning left along one of the tracks. Wheal Uny is marked by two mine stacks - difficult to miss. There was a lot of fur resembling beardie undercoat, or similar, spread over some distance. It was clean, vibrant of colour, and although some was tangled, none was heavily matted. There was no evidence whatsoever of dried skin, and no skeletal remains to be seen. Monty is in my mind every day of every week, and always will be. I shall continue to follow up every possible lead in an effort to find out what became of him.

Thanks Jayne for letting me know about this call. Spoke to the caller who is a regular walker over the area where the fur was found and had not seen any there before.  However she in turn contacted ZZ and together they went to investigate.  The hair was quite clean, was not matted in any way, and so the indications were that in all probability it was quite new,  but of course it was impossible to know where it came from and why it was there. No body/skeleton was found.   Enquiries are being made with some nearby residents to see if they can shed some light on this. Regards Mike

Poster up at Carleen Camp site. The lady running the site is very aware of Monty and always looks out for him on her walks. Still lots of posters up in good condition around the area...Godolphin, St Erth, Carleen etc. Mike I'm sorry you're having to follow up these type of sightings, it must be very hard. Would a microchip be visible to see around a skeleton/body?

Hi everybody.  Thanks for you suggestions which are taken on board.  Yesterday we went down to Cornwall to investigate a skeleton which had been seen west of Porthtowan down a cliff on the coast path, and was thought to be possibly that of a dog. We however came to the conclusion that it was not likely to have been that of a dog and had probably been there for some considerable time, but we felt the report had to be followed up.

Still hoping to hear good news but in the meantime thought you would be interested to hear that there was a piece in  the most recent Horse Watch leaflet under Lost Dogs for Monty and asking that all riders in the areas that he has been spotted look out for him. This little leaflet reaches far and wide so people out of the area will also keep an eye out for Monty.  Perhaps as he is used to horses he also may be more likely to show himself .  Glad to hear that young Herbie is settling in well.

Hi everyone - it's been a while now since we last spoke, and the sad news is that there have been no sightings of Monty for about a month now.  In spite of this, I have not given up hope that one day the call will come that tells me that he has been found, or that if he has been taken in by somebody they, at some stage, decide to let us know - there would not be any questions asked if this did happen.  I will naturally continue to follow up any leads that may come in In the meantime, Herbie, after only three weeks, is settling in very well indeed  and seems to be very happy here. I would like to echo others comments, but have not given up on finding Monty.
I have a new friend in Probus who goes out running in all directions early in the morning and at other times as early as 5-00am sometimes.
As well as working in a large factory where he does 4x12 hour shifts a week he helps his brother with gardening jobs all over the place.
I have now got his e-mail addy so am going to send him the poster, and as well as looking out for Monty hope he can put one up where he works.

I have tried to express how grateful Sheena and I are to all those who have given so much of their time, practical help and encouragement in the search for Monty.  Without this help we would never had as many sighting as we had, these would not have been followed up so diligently, and nothing like the number of Cornish people would have known of our poor boy's plight.  It is now coming up to 5 months since he went missing and we have not had a sighting, other than known Beardies, for quite some time now. An opportunity came up for us to take on a 19 month old male slate grey and white Beardie called Herbie that had to be re-homed. We went up country last weekend to see him, and he charmed us to such an extent that we decided to take him home there and then.  He has settled down very well here in Devon and seems to be enjoying himself no end!! He is a pure delight. Of course he has a personality that resembles no other, and as such is not intended to replace Monty - no dog could ever do that - and although he will rightly fill our hearts, Monty will always, always be there.  The way I look at it is that when Monty comes home he will have a companion and playmate, and in the meantime, Herbie will be able to help us when looking for M - as they say, Beardies are attracted to other Beardies. I just wanted to let you know this and to again thank you most sincerely for all your help in the past, and hopefully likewise in the future, until my boy comes marching home. Best wishes. Mike

Just to let you know Mike,I am still keeping vigliant when it comes to dear old Monty.Went on a major trek around Four Lanes/Stithians area last week willing him to be seen.Guess that sighting came to nothing when you followed it up though.I am sure it is only a matter of time before we see him,keep positive in the meantime.

Thanks Zim for your comments and info which is useful for elimination purposes. We did follow up the Crowlas sightings, walked and postered the area but saw nothing. We also spoke to your friends who mentioned that their Beardie did wander around the area so it could have been it that was seen.  Next time it could be Monty though. Hi This is for elimination purposes.
Had new dog in today, Not a Beardie, but a Beardie x Lab x Lurcher.
Colouring same as Monty, but thinner and Female.
To someone who is not that well up on Beardies could be easily mistaken, but 90% of the time on lead and owners close.

Client in today, has a girlfriend with an elderly Beardie, He said to me it was a good job I suggested he renewed the lost tag on his dog as he didn't realise the gate on his girlfriends house didn't close properly and they both wandered off.
Found by someone wandering down the road and taken in then phoned owner.
I am sorry cannot remember if this was a couple of days ago or longer.
If you want to eliminate this sighting you can telephone Howard Wheeler who knows about Monty. The Beardie could have got out again or it could have been the time he said about.

 Informed of a possible Monty sighting last night down in Crowlas West Cornwall -  assured it was definately a Beardie and the description was good.  Went down this morning, walked miles on footpaths in area it had been spotted, postered etc but no joy. Afterwards we walked the Flat Lodes, renewed and added posters and talked to walkers - many were still aware of Monty and are still looking out for him which is very encouraging.

I would like to echo earlier comments : don’t lose hope Mike, however distant your boy may seem. It must be heartening to know that some dogs can stay lost for some time and yet return eventually.. if my beardies and I lived closer to Monty’s "possible triangle" we would walk there every day to see if Monty would like to join us ! As we don’t, all I can do is promise you & Monty that we won’t give up hope either and will do what we can when we can

I attended Gwinear dog show today and my vehicle posters of Monty attracted many people who enquired about him. Most people knew about Monty but not so many knew that he was still missing.  To their credit each and every person that asked about Monty said that they would keep a lookout for him on their travels. The people of Cornwall care and "One and All" they want Monty home. I heard many tales of other dogs that had been missing locally for longer periods than Monty has and have survived and eventually been found and returned home. Keep believing Mike, God willing we WILL get him home.

No news yet - being acted on but may take time. Thank you Maggie's Mum and Sandy for your kind thoughts.  Sorry to hear that Maggie has not been found yet but as you say one has to believe that she is around somewhere, and as Sandy tells us Maggie could follow this heartning story and come in at any time. It's the not knowing that is the worst part, but you have to keep working and hoping that one day .........  In Monty's case I look out for him outside first thing each morning and last thing at night, and I have left his bed unwashed so that when he comes in he will immediately feel at home. I just wish he would hurry up though! Thanks again to everyone for all your continued support.

What encouraging news from Sandy.I had also been told of a story about a dog up country that had gone missing for quite a while and he was eventually caught.His paws were a bit worn but otherwise ok,they know how to look after themselves out there. I have had a good stomp in area around Germoe,some of which is remote enough to hide away in and not be seen by anyone.I am sure this is what Monty is up too.I will keep eyes open and like everyone else,do not intend to give up on him.

Hi Mike - I have been following your search for Monty from the back row - so to speak - you have, and are, doing a fantastic job as are your wonderful team of helpers - so many people wish with all their hearts that Monty will be back home with you soon - but I know that it is difficult keeping up the stamina to search and follow up every lead - my little grey lurcher Maggie vanished 15 months ago and I still keeping looking out for her - until I have proof to the contrary I truly believe she is out there shomewhere so we can never give up, please keep on going through the good and the bad times, I really hope your amasing efforts will be rewarded and now that the summer months are nearly here and more people are out and about renew the posters and flyers - the more eyes there are the better.  Wishing you every success in your continuing search - GOOD LUCK

Many years ago while out with my beardies a dog came up to them and after they had all said hello he joined us.  I was quite worried so looked to see if there was anybody about but could see no one and it was very early in the morning so kept walking.  He stayed with us right up to the main road when I put their leads on and just tagged on behind came into the garden and then into the kitchen.  I phoned the local kennels who didn't seem interested until when asked if he looked like a fox I said I said yes he does.  The owner came racing to my house and told me they had been trying to trap this boy for 6 MONTHS people had been putting food out but nobody could catch him.  He obviously had decided he'd had enough and liked the look of us. He was reunited with his owner.  I have wanted to tell you this for a long time but due to the length I have held back hoping Mondy would appear.

No chance (of giving up hope!)  I forgot to say that when I went to Cornwall back at the start of the month I was pleased to see posters of Monty even up in Padstow!  And of course the ad running in the Western Morning News.  Keep the faith Mike, and I pray that Monty will be back soon x

Yes HC the sighting inTrispen was followed up. It turned out to be a Border.  Lets hope that if it has been lost, it will be reunited with its owner soon. Great Zim, thanks....very rarely go out that way. Thinking about this season's visitors and have put one up at Truro Caravan site near Chacewater. I will also put one up at ones near Carleen and anywhere alse I may pass that is a camp site etc.

As there have been no recent sightings perhaps it would be an idea to do as Millie suggested and place a story in the West Briton.Hundreds of people read this paper every week.I know this has been done before but a "reminder," if you like may get things moving.People forget only too quickly about these things if it doesnt involve them personally and i am sure everyone thinks Monty has been found ,so lets remind them!!!

Luckily the weather here was fine and had client in from Porthleven. He will be going to look around at the festival. I gave him 8 flyers and sent him the link to the main poster, and attached the page to print out the flyers.
Have a new client from Great work Ashton starting next week, so will get more flyers done for them.

Jules - I had the same with posters being taken down on the coastal path. I think ZZ said it might be the council workers.The park warden I spoke to was supportive. It might be people wanting to take the info with them...or not..! As for some people in shops not putting them up etc - makes you want to scream, doesn't it? There's nowt so queer as folk...

Clients from Porthleven in tomorrow (or no tif forcast is correct). will print flyers, even if they are a funny colour, so they can possibly hand them out, I'm almost certain they will be at this festival.

Happy birthday Monty - 10 today.  Best wishes are sent to you from all those who love and miss you and particularly of course from Sheena and myself.  I must say that I had hoped that you would be back home by now so that you could personally thank all those wonderful people who have never had the pleasure of meeting you, but who have so kindly given their time, their help and encouragement to try to find you. So I will do this for you - if I leave anybody out it would be unintentional and my fault -so just put it down to the onset of "old timers disease". Thanks to Jayne for this amazing web site and for not bawling me out when I deleted half of your postings. Thanks to ZZ for all the time she has spent orchestrating efforts to find you.  Nothing has been too much trouble for her right from the very begining. Thanks to Caroline who, with her husband Kevin and friends in her village, has BBQ'd some 86 times, postered, set traps and many other things all to try to get you home. Words of thanks are simply just not enough. In addition, Caroline is an outstandingly creative and skillful artist and yesterday presented me with a portrait of you that completely captures your looks and personality, and will be hung with pride in your home. Thanks to Jules who has spent so much of her spare time postering, handing out fliers and phoning hundreds of farmers asking them to keep an eye open for you. Thanks to CD for his regular searching on the Flat Lodes and Carn Brae, renewing posters and helping with BBQing.  Thanks to Zim for all her useful and kind suggestions. That's great Zim. Just looking at the map and seeing where needs to be postered. It's in the middle of the line from Rosudgeon to Carn Brae and I don't think it has been postered. I haven't had chance to get out this week but have got more posters printed off. Someone has taken down the poster I put up in Porthleven a coule of weeks ago. I wish they would just leave them alone. So another one will go up tomorrow as there is a big food festival in the village this Saturday with people from lots of different areas. It's on a very visible area where everyone looks. Oh Monty, where are you?

you will I think be wasting another poster. Yours was the 5th, and none went up. I tried each staff member and owner (who I think it is down to). I don't use it much, as he is so miserable, but my son spends a lot in there.
I am awaiting a yellow ink,then I will try one on Mens institute as the board that boarded up the broken window is now broken, but will take a poster. This is on crossroads.

Continuing to patrol Flat Lode and Carn Brae on the Pool industrial estate side and Brae village side, morning, lunchtime and early evening as I use this route to commute to work by bicycle off-road. Replacing posters and talking to walkers en route.  Ever hopeful.

There's has to be a sighting soon. Postered Lowertown, Trennack, through all very remote places up to Releath, heading towards Black Rock but ran out of posters. Everyone I've spoken to have heard about Monty and didn't know he's still missing. Will try other areas next week.

Yesterday I postered Crowntown, Nancegollan and Praze. From looking at the map, it looks like it's a straight line from Contantine to Newtown/Resudgeon so I'm trying to poster from this line up. Could this be his triangle? The third point at Carn Brae/Flat Lode? Anyway I'll carry on with the posters.

Well done everyone on the poster campaign - keeping Monty in the public eye is half the battle in getting the sightings. It is not uncommon for dogs to become more furtive, the longer they are out, and Monty is known to favour remote countryside. Over time he may have learnt how to travel unseen, which wouldn't be too difficult given the areas he has been tracking.

Postered around Breage and Ashford and up to Balwest this afternoon, replacing old ones etc. People do stop and ask about Monty and say that they're looking out for him so there are lots of eyes out there....but we need more. Will continue to poster as I go. Millie, Mike has already done an article in West Britain when he first went missing.....but another one would be a good idea. Stay positive Mike, we will get another sighting soon. x

Hi Mike. I'm sure its still a case of some people still not knowing about Monty's plight. I spoke to someone recently in Penzance even, that had not heard anything at all. Just an idea, but don't you think that maybe the local West Briton etc could report a short story for you. I know that you are advertising in the Lost and Found but a story in the local news could bring a result. I'm sure the paper would consider it as they have done so with other cases. Feel free to call on your local support if needed.

Hi Jules, will leave a note for my son to check PO today.
Never thought of INSIDE telephone box, glass is broken regularly.
That's what they do at Post Office, smile, put it over back. and then bin it I think.
They did put MIA up for 2 days, and a cat poster was up for about 3 days next to it.
Lot of rain yesterday, my telegraph pole one of Monty is a bit smudged. will replace that one.
The guy at Nancegollan garage breeds Shar pais (spelt wrong?).
Might be worth telling him thatMonty is still missing, he doesn't live in Nancegollan. fantastic chatty doggy guy.

Hi Zim, That's a shame that Leedstown take down the posters. I put one in phonebox next to PO and one down the road on the lamp post near the noticeboard. I also handed one into the PO and explained to the lady who smiled and put it down. I assumed she would put it up later. Let me know if it's not up and I'll be a little more persuasive next time!! Will drive around Nancegollan and see what the poster situation is like. Thanks for letting me know that one's up in the garage. Hoping there's a sighting really soon.

Leedstown is awful, I poster every week, and kids tear them down.
Pub and Post Office take them but Post office doesn't put them up. Given 3 so far, and all to different staff.
Village hall takes anything down that isn't Village hall related.
Still ones down my lane, on telegraph pole, but one at playing field on dog poo bin was removed this morning (emptier?).
I think a client has put one inside Townshend hall.

Postered this morning Goldithney, St Hilary, Relubbus, Townshend and Leedstown. I ran out of pins but will poster Nancegollan, Lowertown and surrounding areas over the next few days unless we have another sighting. This must be such a worrying time for you Mike when there hasn't been any sightings in such a long time but I'm sure he's in a new area that hasn't been postered. We must keep going and let people know we're still looking for him.

My sentiments entirely Millie,but it does show that people are responding to adverts/posters i guess.Poor Mike you must have travelled hundreds of miles but then so would i if it meant there could be a chance it was my dog ( i havent actually got my own but i take my neighbours beardie/collie walking.) Followed up two sightings of what we were told was an unaccompanied  Beardie in Charlestown.  Rushed down there today only to eventually find out that it was a locally owned  Beardie called Barney. Postered in any case as we were down there. Next time maybe?

My friends and I are still looking for Monty each day in many different areas. Our vehicles still show Monty posters and each place that we park people are reminded that Monty is still missing. If we can keep him fresh in peoples minds then sooner or later one of them will see him and help us get him home. He is still out there and between us we WILL get him home because we believe that we will, we just need a little bit of luck now.

Through the good offices of the Cornish Web Manager for children and schools, a "still missing" poster of Monty is again being sent to all the Primary and Secondary schools in the county in time for the Easter holidays . With the poster will be  a note to the Head Teacher that there will be a reward for the school whose pupil reports a sighting that leads to the return home of Monty. Hopefully this, together with the adverts in all the Cornish papers, the continued goodwill of all his friends, and the kind people in the County, will result in some positive sightings and eventual success.  In the meantime, the traps are still set, and BBQing continues.

Hi everybody, hands up, this was my fault and thanks to Jayne for getting thi site up and running again.  As she suggests, it is best to use this site for the time being, and I will put the new dog ID 17764 on the old site. Sorry to be such a pain!
